Thanks for that. You are right re $$ spent on the car. Never get it back in kind but then why do we spend money on these cars?? Mate I have been through divorce, lost my dad and had cancer...I deserve to spoil myself I reckon. But I get your point and agree totally. I'm not a stranger to hard driving and have experienced substantial brake fade over the years. It is something I hate. You live with it, but usually 3, maybe 4 hard brake applications and then it's throw the anchor out to stop. Looks are a big thing I agree and so that's one aim. The second is performance and while I can't rule out throwing it around at a track day, its not on the cards just yet. But mainly for oppurtunity rather than desire. Price is an issue. I have got a set of PBR-M calipers and 2 peice rotors. If they are half as good as they look they will be sensational. They cost $3500 and retail for nearly $6k fitted (These are not the PBR upgrade). So I have saved some $$ there. Wheel clearance was an issue as I didnt want to change wheels but I am resigned to it now and am looking at FPV dark argents (Or whatever they are called) I am very impressed with the bigger standard rotors on the BF turbo. That little bit extra in circumference does make a difference and I havent warped a disc yet (went thru 3 sets of rotors on my BA) so they obviously fixed that. But I like to be complete and it just doesn't sit well having over 500hp of power with standard brakes. I explained to my 10 year old that Allan Moffet won Bathurst in the late 70s with 500hp and I now have more than that with more to come. I certainly wouldn't drive his XC on standard brakes. So I guess that tells you my reasoning. Maybe I'll find the PBRs cr@p, maybe overkill. At least I will know. But I was quoted nearly $6k for APs today just for the fronts. THAT is over kill LOL. I hope I dont sound like a spanker. Cheers.

Hi. Does anyone have a pic of a BF (or BA I guess) with 20" FPV wheels fitted?
-
Sensational. Thank you for that. So typically, Bfs haf a +35 offset (correct me if wrong there) which explains why the hub is more towards the road side than the brake side. Ok I get that now. Cool. The BA 18" clear the calipers no prob and I assume they are 35 as well. My standard 18 BF rims would be +35 Id assume (Sorry, thinking aloud here). So that leaves me with the assumption that +35 still may not clear the calipers but knowing it will help. Well so far, all the rims I have seen have the +35. Just a matter of picking the spoke design that doesnt fold back in to foul the caliper. Yes, Im a pain.

FInally some sense. This is the issue I am having trouble coming to terms with is the offset. Looking at wheels online is fine. These things brakes) are meant to fit under 18s and they do fit. Calipers and rotors no problem. But as you said its the offset. And looking at pics its difficult. The PBR-M calipers are wide, the rears are 14cm. However they fit the rears no worries. The fronts, with my rims, nope. So yes, its the offset.
-
I think that was fronts only. Still stuck with the wheel issue though. I think the Aps will go under standard 18 rims. I think Ill just keep the PBRs, change the rims and save 2k. Im not hitting the track.

Anyone know how much a setup of Ap brakes on a BFII will cost? Approximate? Cna't find anywhere on the net that will give any idea. Thanks
-
Yeah that's the spare I have and it fits. Trouble is, witht he grey bits the Update has, I dont think they will look any good on mine. I've found some that are closer to stock I'm gunna try.
-
Thanks for that. XTRmn8, I think your right. Bugger.
-
I'm leaning that way.

Hi everyone. Been a lot of threads about caliper size and what will fit and won't fit under 18" rims. I've been told Brembos will/wont fit, APs will so on and so on. Ok, hopefully someone else has had this problem. Got some larger calipers and found they wont fit under my "Update 18" rims. Circumference is not the issue, its the width of the spokes. A BF 18" rim I got off an XR8 takes them fine. I have the dark grey ones and I assume the silver ones would be the same. Has anyone with these rims encountered this and what did they do? Heres my options. 1. Stick with the XRT brake package 2 .Find an aftermarket caliper and rotor that will fit 3. Get 12mm spacer/adapters (Only for the front) 4. Get new rims. 5. Stuff it and buy a GTS. (This is really not an option) 6. Grind the inside of the wheel (No really, this is NOT and option. No way!!! But someone will suggest it I'm sure) In case you are wondering the brakes I'm trying to fit ar PBR-M 6/4. The 4s fit perfect on the back (These come with 355 rotors for the back) but the 6s on the front, even the 4s on the front just knock the inside of the rim. Now if someone with Brembos wants to go and measure the width of the 6 pot caliper for me I'll be happy to compare. But I seriously think its a limitation of the wheel and would love to hear from someone with the same wheel who has put aftermarket brakes on. Cheers guys. PS if you are not sure what rim I am talking about, heres a pic.

Absolutley terrified to read that story, but guys I'm gunna tell you a story that's worse. Took my car into my dealer last week for som warrnty work on the rear. The service manager is a nice bloke and I get on with him pretty well. I asked if they could look at the inline Turbo oil filter while the car was up on the hoist. This was his reply (Now this is a Ford service manager mind you) "The only oil filter is the standard engine oil filter. There is no other oil filter." Hang on a minute. So theres two possibilities. All you Ford XR6 Turbo owners who are whinging about in line filters are talking through your rear OR Ford mechanics are never informed there is a filter than can be the cause of major engine issues. I don't know about you guys, but that is somewhat dissapointing. Once I can find it, Im trashing it. As someone else wrote, why do you need to filter oil that is already filtered???????

FG XRT I am sorry. Mate that is so sad. Did you mange to save ANY of the beer or was it all completely gone? Mate always hold your beer in 2 hands in case of a shock walking back from the fridge.
-
Thanks Brett. Yeah I'm suspecting more and more its the top of the shocks. I am borrowing the 4 toinne Jack from work and hoisting it this weekend (No, I wont forget my axle stands). Locktight will be purchased tomorrow. It is one of those thiongs that annoys the living cr*p out of me. I know these cars get creaks and groans as they get older but this is rediculous. Anyway, I shall report on my findings once done.
-
Drifter I am really sorry you are having that issue but thak Chr*st someone else is and I'm not going mad. It is driving me insane and feels like the arse end of the car is gunna fall off. I was intending on going over it on the weekend. I was thinking it was the bolts at the top of the shocks but I take it you found nothing out of the ordinary?? Man if you find the solution theres a beer in it for you and I'd even consider driving to bloody Newcastkle to buy it for you lol.

The ex has the kids that weekend. If I can get her to drop them home I won't have to pick them up. I m,issed out on a small cruies just after chrissy so am keen. Put me down as a definate maybe. BTW, last weekend I did the Lorne rund and came back up through Deans Marsh. Except for the goose in the 7 series BMW, it was a dream run. Georgous time of year and it was amazing how a couple of hours flew by.

Hi guys. Just an update. Thoughts appreciated. Tork my car to my local Ford dealer. The service guys are really approachable so warranty wasn't an issue for the rear end (as it shouldn't be) Anyway, after having the car a few hourts got a call that they wanted me to come down as they couldn't fault the rear. Ok, so I go down with intention of going for a drive with the mechanic. Now firstly, those of you who have not see the Nizpro 4" exhaust are in for a bit of a shock as it is bl**dy huge. So of course when I get down there the service manager grabs me and says when they got the car on the hoist all the mechs in the workshop gathered around and couldn't believe how good it looked and the workmanship. (Small smile on my dial there) But I digress. The mechanice said that he beleived the "bang" was defiately shock noise and was coming from the top mounting of the shock. Ok, so that opens up a couple of possibilities I guess. Perhaps, despite them being brand new, the shocks havent been tightened properly on the car at the top when it was on its wheels (as suggested earlier in this thread) I am hoping that's the case and I'll have a look when I can actually go outside and not get cooked by the sun.

Suspension Options and Setup for B Series Ts
Rudiger replied to Erko's topic in Suspension and Handling
Excellent thread guys. Really good to read. -
My approach to them was thus. I have gone after market with shocks and springs because you guys couldnt find the fault. Well it isnt shocks and it isnt springs which means is FORD components. (Oh and it isnt diff bush either). SO no, I'm not paying, and dont intent behind screwed unless someone buys me a drink first. Anyway, my credit card IS maxed out, and the ex wife got all my money, even though I got the house the car the kids and the dog. lol.
-
All the items were fitted by workshop and the noise was there previously. Id hoped fitting new gear would fix it. Anyway, its booked into Ford on Monday. I was going to go to Pedders first but I hate playing one agains the other. If they cant fix it then Ill go elsewhere. Ill keep you posted but I would have thought others would have experienced this as I had iot on the BA I recently got rid of.
-
I had both sways done and the back end slid out all over the place. I then got new tyres and had Bisteins and kings all around. The change was remarkable. No sliding, however to me, the back end is a little sloppy so maybe I need a stiffer sway in the back. But for now Im happy. Yes personal choice.
-
Didn't his price include springs? Well in that case I ow you an apology. Mind you I didnt bag ya. lol. Then I got a ripper deal. Glad I recommended you now lol. Sorry Pat.
-
I paid around $1400 about a month ago. That was delivered from Sydney. So trevs, you gotem cheap me thinks. But senna_t a member on here will do you a price.
-
There was a pic I saw of a blue FG GT with 22" rims Looked rather cool, but the brakes looked tiny so I'd have to agree with you on late.
-
And theres theres yours so you see why all the questions. The PBR get a good wite up and then there was the post from the guy working on prices. I dunno.
-
I can get the full PBR kit for $3800 not fitted. But that includes lines and two peice slotted Rotors
