As someone has stated make sure you try a few different brands on as they will all fit your head differently. Make sure you get it fitted to your head by a professional, you should just bite your cheeks when the helmet is new etc etc...

ALF05T is on the money, you can damage a new clutch by "Glazing" it which is caused by overheating the clutch. I would go by KM's not time (weeks) as you may only drive say 20km to and from work so time is useless. about 1k should be fine so long as it is in suburbia.
