  1. Thanks ratter, yeah the solenoid hoses are fine. Car is back in today to check the actuator, apparently it is tricky to check it is working short of taking it off. my moneys on the actuator, but its really a process of elimination.
  2. yeah fair call bfhoon. only issue is we had an agreed price to tune the car. when I picked the car up, I payed for it, even though the result wasnt what I had anticipated. he had still done all the things that went with tuning the car. he said if I sort the problem he'll finish the tune so it makes some good gains. but if I want him to find the problem ill have to pay for it......guess I'll have to take it back and get him to find the problem and reach some sort of compromise.......
  3. I still see the two situations in a similar light. Boost delivery is there although sluggish and will only go to a certain level. I think its the same issue. I am confident all pipe connections at tight. If I the actuator check does the turbo need to come off?
  4. weird works for me.......sorry guys my internet skills are average
  5. After searching the forums I am leaning towards the wastegate actuator being the issue here. I see ravenhard had a problem, he made 195rwkw stock, and 205rwkw on 10psi. that would compare with my 193rwkw stock and my tuner could only get mine to run 7psi which made 205rwkw. when we bolted the cooler up I checked all joins and I cant see any issues with that now. I've done boost solenoid maintenence twice over the past 6 months so that's sweet. any thoughts or advice as to what to do now would be great. cheers
  6. Hey guys got an issue with my stock 04 BA XR6T auto. I took it to the tuner yesterday to get a base run prior to fitting this cooler http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motors/C...n-215006358.htm which it made 193rwkw. I took it into get tuned today with the new cooler fitted and he tells me the car just wont allow him to run anymore boost. He thinks the cooler maybe too big for the turbo, but that shouldnt be right?! Alot of you have far bigger coolers. Hes check all the basics and will get it on the hoist and check everything again, but does any one have any ideas?? Apparently it just wont make more boost. They tuned a stock T recently and it made 246rwkw so they must have a fair idea what to do with them. I know the simple idea would be re-fit the stock cooler and see if that changes it but after the ordeal to get the other one on in the first place that's the last thing I want to do. Thanks
  7. yep its old enough. I could start a new thread if you prefer?....
  8. Thanks Stealth for the install guide. Bought this intercooler kit myself so it will come in handy. An other tips you can offer that might make the job easier. I also noticed that GT cooler hybrid make also with the plumb back design. Can anyone explain how that one is rated at 900hp but the one Stealth has fitted is only rated at 600hp?!
  9. Cool. thanks senna. I'll talk to the guy who will tune it. He hasnt tuned too many of them but has done alot of jap stuff, and its not like I have other options where I live. its a 04 BA XR6T davidald. I know what you mean about always wanting more power, but hopefully I'll find a happy medium.
  10. Yeah that's what im saying, but what im trying to find out is because an intercooler and tune may net me 240rwkw at a guess? would injectors and valve springs give me more power?? maybe it would allow a more aggressive tune?? that's what im trying to find out......
  11. Thanks for your reply. Im not after a specific power figure, I just want a bit of an upgrade. I live over in NZ and we dont have the availability of aftermarket XR6 Turbo parts that OZ does. that cooler seems good value for money and would be relatively simple to install. I imagine the factory injectors and valve springs would be up to the job with the fact I will only be running 8-9psi. But I just though if there was any benefit in doing them, rather than get the tune, and later on fit those parts and need to have it retuned.....
  12. Hey guys just a quick question. Im going to replace my stock cooler with a HDi SIR-X kit http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=211039477, which seems to be a good option and then im gonna get a custom tune. Everything I want to do I want to do all at once and was wondering with those mod's in mind would there be any benefit in fitting stronger valve springs and upgraded injectors?? Any advice would be great. Cheers

    Ecu Edit

Hey guys Just need a bit of advice. I live in NZ and in a place that dosent have much in the way of tuning companys. I went to the only one that I know of that is involved in tuning. They do a bit of Late model camira and Ford tuning, but by his admission have only recently got into the Fords. But they have done lots of work on V8's and Jap stuff. Im looking for more power on a budget and he said they have a system where they dyno tune the car and reprogramme the ECU and the company/system they do this through charge them per car. It sounds much the same as getting a custom tune but without the flash box and the ability to return the vehicle to standard yourself. I thought I was reasonably cheap at $550 NZ and he talked about running 8psi with a gain of about 40hp. Anyone know what the system is they use and any draw backs? I imagine the end result will come down to the current level of my engine and how well they are able to tune it. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Cheers
  14. Heres my car 04 BA XR6T
  15. Yeah its in NZ so it may have the Cat removed. Its been for sale for a while, the buy now was $18,500NZD ($15,500AUD) which seems very reasonable. If only I didnt already have one id been keen. Love to take it for a test drive anyway. My cars quite stock and where I am you dont see hardly any modified T's, I'd love to see how these 300rwkw+ cars drive.
  16. Yeah the thought did cross my mind (especially with the 325kw sticker on the back) but the dyno chart reads 320kw and 694nm and I thought dynos take those figures from the rear wheels, or are they able to convert it into flywheel kw's.
  17. I was just looking at this car on trademe http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=192594473. I thought 320kw for only 42lb injectors, exhaust and custom tune seemed like a pretty good result! (dyno printout is in the photos). What do you guys think about this? Do you think this engine could be fairly high strung at the expense of long term reliability? Or is this a fairly standard result? Cheers
  18. I worked in car sales not long ago for Ford and Mazda and we found any astra's or vectra's regardless of their badging to be very mediocre. Electrics seemed to be the weak link for them with crank-angle sensors and airbag warning lights seeming to be a problem on many cars. belts need to be changed every 60K on these cars. I think up to around the 100K mark these cars are pretty reliable, but after that they can be no end of trouble.
  19. I just want to know if there is any benefit to spray down the hose that goes to the turbo and the other pipe that goes who knows where?!
  20. hey while you guys are talking about the boost solenoid maintence, do you actually spray the WD40 down the two pipes or just through the boost solenoid itself???
  21. just went for a drive after cutting the hole in the airbox for the F6 snorkle. Seems to be quite a good improvement actually, can feel the turbo come on stronger and a little earlier. Just to note while I was out on the open road I checked the instant fuel consumption which was in the low 8's/100km at 100kph. im not putting it down to the airbox but I thought it was good all the same (have only ever checked it once before)
  22. I've owned a -1993 Honda Civic SiR Manual -1993 Subaru Legacy RS Twin Turbo Auto -1995 Nissan Silvia S14 Turbo Manual -2004 Ford XR6 Turbo Auto Luxury pack Plus about 5 or so hacks not worth mentioning
  23. yeah I know it sounds crazy. I can afford to buy it but just have to watch the spending abit at the mo! Plus I live in NZ and both price and availability of parts is less favourable than in OZ. I have a go and let you guys know what the results are.......but I have been thinking about it and would the colder and slightly force fed air the snorkel may provide really make any difference given the air will be pressurised and heated by the turbo and then cooled again after passing through the intercooler??? hmmmmm. This may be off topic as well but why have ford designed the intake/tubro set up the way they have. It seems to me kits like the process west one are far more logical. ie the air filter should be where the battery is on the turbo side and the throttle body should be foward facing. surely this is more efficent and even cheaper for ford to manafacture(which so much of their decisions would be based on?!)
  24. yeah the question came about cos I am pretty broke :(
