  1. I know what you're talking about Peter. Since I had my car played with using VCM the traction control is virtually non existant. When traction is lost the light will flash for a second or two while it tries to control the wheelspin then after that traction control is turned off and the light comes on and cant be turned off until the car is turned off. Weird. I dont know why it does it? When it was stock the traction control would do its job without turning off even in the wet.

  4. Hey guys. Who is a good tuner of turbo falcons in the southisland?? Anyone had good experiences? Prefer if they use VCM or Snyper. Having issue with tuning my car locally and looking at alternatives, someone who has worked on XR6T's and knows them well. Cheers

    Psi Loss

    Hi guys my car with is currently losing about 5psi between the turbo and the engine. It has an HDi cooler kit and has checked ok for leaks. I understand as a part of a cooler working a cooling air a certain amout of psi is lost but this is too much and I think is causing problems. Also on stock tune it seems to have miss when accelerating hard as the auto changes 1st to 2nd and 3rd to 4th. Maybe that has to do with tourque limiting? As it almost has that feel to it. Any ideas would be great cheers.
  6. I know the question 'Can I run a larger cooler without a tune?' has been asked many a time, and currently that's what im doing. I have a Hdi kit installed and my car running on stock tune while we work through a few issues with the retune. I am taking it very gently when I drive it, but I did push it once and under boost it seemed to make a 'popping' noise from the exhaust and performance was average. As soon as I heard the noise I realised it cant be good and didnt do it again but I just wondered what it was? Is that overboost? popping from the exhaust I thought would have been unburnt fuel in the exhaust? Hope I didnt do any damage, but its happy enough just cruzing around......
  7. So hi afr's means running lean? Would your be able to tell if it was? Perhaps a miss at full throttle?
  8. I bought one and it did bugger all. I think its created more problems than anything else. 20 - 30kw without a tune? I'd like to see them prove it........
  9. It only made 15psi 'freeboosting' where I guess they dissconect the boost solenoid?? and it just boosts without any control or limit. So no that's not the reason. dont know what power it made on that run??
  10. Had car back at tuners starting to get ideas as to what might be going on. Letting the turbo freeboost it only made 15psi, measuring boost at the turbo and then at the motor was showing approx 4 - 5psi less so potentially somewhere between the turbo and the engine could be a leak, controling boost via a boost tap (instead of computer) got rid of the surging issue?!. Those are the things I remember after talking to the tuner. So at this stage we are going to take the front bumper off and check for leaks or anything that could cause a drop in boost pressure. The fact the turbo could only make 15psi MIGHT suggest its not too healthy? Dissapointing since its only got 68km on the clock, and I dont like the sound of the prices to repair these turbos. Could my cat play a part in this??
  11. What you just bought a new one? Could you not have reco'd the old one? Was it just through trial and error you found the problem?
  12. Yeah I think mine makes the same sound benji hard to describe though. Sorta like the sound you hear when you close your mouth and exhale throuh your nose?? Except like you said with a bearing sorta sound lol

  14. No offence taken. I dont trust this guy at all, through the information available on this forum I feel I know more about the car than he does. My situation comes down to no other options available in my area, seeing as we arent making progress I have spoken to other tuners but the problem with that is it's a days drive to take it to someone who I would say is competent with the vehicle and has the equipment and know how to deliver a good result.

  16. Sounds like im in the exact same boat as you plugg3r! I dont have all the mods as you, ive just got a cooler. My guess is weak actuator? or maybe cat? but both theories have their flaws :wacko:

  20. Ok im feeling very over dealing problems with my car, so I'll keep this brief. My question is has anyone fitted an aftermarket intercooler kit to their car with has led to surging/tuning issues? My tuner is having problems tuning my car and wants me to refit the standard cooler to see if it will make any difference, which I cant do anyway cos I sold the standard cooler already. Im sure the new cooler is 100% fine, and this guy is just a muppet! Just be good to know if anyone has ever heard of this.
  21. Im in the same situation lost my top snorkle when I upgraded my intercooler and I just cut a hole for the typhoon snorkle but never bought a snorkle. I have been wondering the same thing if there was any point getting the F6 snorkle and covering the old hole for the top snorkle? Looks like redbackalarms has a great setup.

  23. My HDi cooler sits as it should and I still have the stone tray fitted although it is a little bit of a squeeze. You just need to cut a fair bit off the chasis rail across the front and I had to bend the hell out of my ac pipes.
  24. Sounds like a similar problem to what my car is doing. Power delivery is very boost, stop, boost, stop, boost as it climbs through the revs when under load eg 4th gear at 80km. Intercooler and tune are the mods I have done, apparently surging goes away at stock tune. Havent got to the source of the problem at this stage but, would be interested if you solve the problem. Will let ya know if I find the problem in mine.
  25. I dont mind buying some ebay ones to find the coils arent the problem, as mic said they will need replaced at some stage a may provide a small improvement. A set of genuine ones a are 4 maybe 5 times the price so I wouldnt go down that avenue when they are an unlikely cause. I dont want to buy into the advertising speel too much but they do quote them as being better than genuine?!
