I had two girlfriend's in high school who's father's were exactly like this. I seriously don't get the logic behind it. Just because there's people out there who will mess with your life, doesn't mean you shouldn't interact with all other people. This is the same argument as the abstienence only education. There's only going to be people who "rebel" against the level of education and then wind up in the "bad situations" that can arise from ignorance. It's proven to be far better for people to be educated in all possible outcomes, then let the "educated" person make his or her own choices and accept the responsibilities. In my own experience, my dad was strict as all hell on everything except girlfriends (wtf... I know...), until I was 18 and got a license and a car. But as soon as I moved out, just like Adie, even with the "relaxed" rules, things improved dramatically.
