  1. Well I had some spare time so I thought I would paint my brake calipers as I think it sets the car off nicely. Easy to do: 1. Buy brake caliper spray paint from auto shop. 2. Remove wheels and clean calipers thoutoghly. 3. Wait until calipers are nice and dry. 4. Mask up the caliper with newspaper or plastic bags. 5. Spray on one thin coat. 6. Wait 10 minutes. 7. Spray on a nice even coat. 8. Wait 15 minutes. 9 . Step 7 & 8 are to be done three times all up. 10. Remove masking 11. Replace wheels (you may do a wheel rotation). Done! Choose a day that's dry & not too windy. Here is the finished product, and also what look I hope to achieve once I can find some place to put my white BFII GT stripes on for me (in Melbourne's Sth East)... Jake.
  2. G'Day, Looks the goods! Where did you get the stripes fitted? Jake.
  3. Well I was trying to work out all the plumbing work that snakes its way around the good old 4L Turbo engine of ours, and I ended up a bit confused as to how it all works. I found a good "idiots guide" that explains how a turbo works. So for those like me who are still learning, here is a good link: http://www.turbotechnics.com/docs/turbo/turbowork.htm Jake.
  4. I'm not too far from there myself! I am going to a NYE pool party though - should be a good one PS. This webpage is pretty cool: http://www.earthsci.unimelb.edu.au/~awatkins/melbtemp.html Jake.
  5. It gets friggin hot - almost undriveable today! We need a "mini upside-down stubbie holder" thingy with "FORD" on it! I'd buy one for sure! Jake.
  6. Hi Scott, Thanks for that. I have done quite a bit of 'googling' for "Decal shop" and "Decalfitting" but nothing much comes up... Any good places in Melbourne that anyone knows of to get this done? Thanks, Jake.
  7. Sorry to dig up an old thread... Where can I get the stripes fitted (already have them from eBay). Is it Ford Service, or panel shops, or ? I will be putting white stripes onto Shockwave.
  8. G'day guys, Update: I picked up my F6 intake from FTG Autosalvage - $75, and have receiveed a K&N filter in the mail from ebay - $75. I also have a C&V CAPA box on the way $495 with three generic tunes. (Thanks to this website) The only things I can pick on with the car at this stage are: - Diff clunk - will get checked under remaining warranty. - 2nd & 3rd gear isn't 100% smooth (sometimes a little crunch) - will get checked under remaining warranty. Any ideas about the issues above? Once warranty work is done, I will chuck the cold air stuff on & get the center muffler removed, and head down to get a custom tune! PS. I am getting my forum name changed to "Jake XR6T" // Jake.
  9. Cheers, I might have to ring Mal Wood. Great advice about getting an independant mechanic to check the car too!
  10. Well my 1999 AU XR6-VCT was written off when a lady that ran a stop sign & hit me a few days ago! (nobody was hurt). I have managed to find a very well looked after example of a BA MkII XR6T in 'shockwave' with 90,000kms on the clock at a good price. It has a 6 speed manual, and the momo steering wheel. Warranty runs out on it in a few weeks, so if there is anything that I should be on the lookout for to get fixed under warranty let me know asap please. I would like to modify it to a power level where the standard clutch will still hold up ok... Not too sure, but I think I would like to do the following mods: - Typhoon intake - BMC filter - Centre muffler removal - Custom edit This should get me some decent power, whilst still remaining stock looking, and not frying the clutch too easily. 230rwkw perhaps ?? I am thinking about either Nizpro ot HP-F to do the custom edit, as these seem to have a good reputation in Melbourne. Also, I was considering cosmetic mods such as 18"s & perhaps white GT stripes... Anyway, I have been enviously lurking around here for several years, learning about these cars patiently, and I can't wait to now pick mine up on Sunday ! PS. I will need to change my forum name from BLACK XR6-VCT to something more up to date // Jake.
  11. Looks sweeeet!!! How about when it rains? Wouldn't water be pouring in onto the rocker cover, sparkplugs etc ? I guess it would have some sort of a lip to stop this....
  12. Yeah, I reckon I will just end up removing the centre muffler rather than going the whole exhaust, since at 260 rwkw the facotry unit should still be up to the job (only just I guess ?!?) This with the edit, BMC & 2nd CAI together with valve springs and either aftermarket clutch for manual, or oil cooler for auto should do the trick!
  13. Hi guys. I am looking at getting a 2003 XR6T and putting the EDIT on. I have searched & found that the EDIT reaches a limit because of the injectors at around 250rwkw. I am happy with this power output and don't plan to change injectors, since I am looking for a car that runs 13.3's to 13.5's without too many reliability issues. Questions: 1. What is the easiest way to achieve these type of times in both: a) auto b) manual 2. If you were to remove centre muffler and add 2nd CAI would you gain anything over the EDIT alone (assuming custome re-tune)? ie. torque etc. or would you just have the same results as with the EDIT alone given injector is the main restriction which imposes the limit? 3. At 250rwkw - with just EDIT, what would have to be strengthened from stock? I heard that the auto should get a tranny cooler ? 4. What ET's are being done by stock with just EDIT: a) XR6T manual/auto b) XR8 manual/auto I have 90% decided to get an XR6T rather than the XR8 since it is much more cost effecive to achieve a 13.5 quarter mile time - the XR8 seem to need extractors exhaust, under drives etc. etc. to achieve these figures. I'm still undecided on manual vs auto tranny. I appreciate comments, and please correct me if I have made any wrong assumptions etc. //Jake.
  14. AU1 XR6-VCT manual, 15.8 ET Want to get an XR6T with edit!!!!! (13.5 ET?)
  15. The only decent Aussie beers are: Boags Premium, Cascade Premium, Hahn Premium. All the other beers like VB, Tooheys, Crown Lager, Hahn Ice etc. taste almost identical. Crown Lager is the biggest rip off since it comes from the same batch as VB, just from the top of the barrel or something! If I want to drink some good beer I choose any of the three I mentioned. Otherwise I usually just buy a 30 pack of Hahn Ice or Toohey red for $26.
  16. I had Bendix Ultimate and they were a good pad, but too much dust. Now I have "Lucas Pads" which don't stop as well as the Ultimates, but there is virtually no dust. Also they aren't as aggressive on the rotors.
  17. Yes please. Vould you put me down for 1 car, 2 adults. Possibly GOR, but will have to confirm. Jake.
  18. I just found out that shootout mode gives 10% higher readings than normal mode. So the XR6T Manulas that got 202-210 were really 180-189 (Motor magazine got 185 for a manual. They got 225 for a GT) This also suggests that the 252 GT on the day was a real figure of 226 which again is correct. The two 290 Utes that made 230, obviously need more Km's on them to make the same output. My car made 142 which is a real figure of 128. This multiplied by 1.34 (for manual) gives flywheel 172, which is exactly what Ford quotes for my car. In short, shootout readouts should be multiplied by .9 to compare with cars run in 'normal' mode. Jake.
  19. Hi guys. Well I had such a good day I decided to join the XR6T Forum !!!! My ride was the AUI XR6 VCT - Manual, (XR8 Air intake, K&N, Exhaust mods) PMP- *** I got 142.5 rwkws (anyone got a spare turbo ?) My brother in law had the red AUII XR6 VCT - Auto (Just XR8 air intake done) QHT-*** He got 129 rwkws. (Both cars are well run in!) It was good meeting with all you guys, hope you didn't mind the 'old' AU's coming along. Thanks for a great day! Jake.
