  5. Bearings collapsed. Took it off and took to local specialist, needed a new centre then all seals etc $1826.00 Inc GST rest of costs were oil and filters etc. Will def recheck after a few km's
  6. Just completed re install of my refurbished stock turbo. Thanks to the thread on here about removing turbo the whole thing was a lot easier. The hardest part without a doubt is the bolt at the bottom corner onto the manifold and then closley followed by the exhuast re fitting onto the turbo outlet, ended up having to remove the studs from the turbo end except 2 to get it on. The rest was just a case of bieng methodical. took about 5 hrs in all, just had test ride and all is good, no leaks as yet. Cranked engine several times until I could see oil at the oil inlet banjo ( removed fuel pump fuse to make sure it did not start)this is very important, it took a lot of turns before the oil was circulating. I have not done the oil filter mod yet, just removed the original one and gave it a good clean, again thanks to all the posts on here how to do it. Did a full oil change and new oil/air filter. really pleased with the result, total cost including all parts and turbo repair $2000.00
  7. Is there a different turbo that can be fitted to a stock manifold that requires no mods but gives improved performance. I have to replace my blown unit and was wandering the best way to go. May be a good time to try something different? Looking at upgrading the intercooler also. Can the boost be increased and is there a thread on here as to how to do it?
  8. Hi, has anyone ever taken a turbo apart on here and if so is there a written procedure. I have taken mine down a fair way, the exhuast housing is off and the shaft is out, I need to get to the bearing, it looks like I have to remove the aly turbine housing off which appears to be held on with a large circlip, just need a proceedure if available please.
  9. Ok, silly question but not really up to date with my Ford. What turbo comes standard on a BA 2004 XR6T. I seee all these to4 and GT35 but my turbo has no numbers on it that resemble these. It has A/R50 M 12 <LL>5 it also has M4 AR 1.06 NWS 1 1/2, do any of these give the model?
  10. Ok, whilst away in NT wife rings me to say gearbox has blown and is making terrible noise, how do you know I say, it only does it when I engage drive. Ok, does it still move, yes she says, ok drive home very slowly, she was only 3k's from home. Got home a few days later and lifts the bonnet. Started her up and the loudest grumbling clanking noise can be herd, switched off quickly only to hear the noise continue for some time getting slowly less and less and slowing down. Ok so pretty sure that the turbo has gone, I am taking it off at the weekend. If as I am 99% sure it is gone where is the best place to go in Perth NOR. There is a place in Wangara I know of that does conversions etc. When I purchased the car 18 months ago it had an old CAPPA boost kit fitted which failed and when I took to Ford they tols me I had to remove it and fit a stock pressure switch, they also had to change the fuel lines as they had been modded and the ECU, bummer so now is all stock as far as I know apart from Exhaust which is a Manta 3". May consider doing some mods again but not sure what to do as money is very tight, any suggestions would be great.
  11. Update on engine fault.- Broke down again last Friday, same problem black smoke from exhaust, eratic running, towed to Ford gagrage. They found that the CAPPA boost box was sending wrong info to ECU causing engine to overfuel, as they did not know what was done and neither did I we agreed that it was best to replace the box with the standard pressure switch. This was done but when they tested the car they found that it ran out of fuel on boost. More daignostics found that the air flow sensor was also none standard also the fuel regulator was different and there was an extra regulator on the return fuel line, all had to be replaced. Car now runs fine after $800 bill from Ford (mostly labour)but I had no chioce as I did not know what had been modified, I gues this highlights the fact that you must know what has been done to your car and preferably by who when buying a modified XR6T. I now have to save some money to have it re moded with a proper CAPPA flash tuner, I still do not know what other mods were done if any internally, for all others modifying cars from standard you should keep a good record of what is done and remember to pass it on when you sell to give the next poor bugger a chance , oh well still love the car and I am very happy to be an XR6T owner, even if it is standard specs (still has 3" exhaust fitted so sounds ok)
  12. Hi, driving down Wanneroo rd in Balcatta 2 days ago my engine just cut out. I managed to pull over and park up. The car would not start at all, turned over fine just not firing and started to have strong petrol smell. I left it for 5 mins and tried again but still no go. Called out roadside assistance (glad I took the option with my insurer) and sat for 2 hrs waiting. Whislt waiting I tried several times and it did start but ran really rough and was chuffing out thick black smoke from the exhuast and was poping and banging, the revs were all over the place so I quickily turned it off again. Eventually got tow back to local Autobahn garage, they had it all night and eventually gave up saying that they could not find problem. They took it to a local electronics/diagnosis shop, they found there were three faults logged on the ECU, overboost, Oil temp and throttle control. They reset the faults and checked the sensors, did lots of test runs and found all ok, only thing that came back up was overboost, I do have an old CAPPA boost box fitted so presume that the boost is high and the cause of the logged fault. I have had the car back for 2 days now and is running like a dream but I am a little concerned that the actual cause of the black smoke or engine cut was found. Could it be a sensor breaking down?
  13. Thanks guys,a relief to hear. Got a service due now so I will get it checked then, and the rego is due, $$$$$$$$$
  14. Hi Guys, just looking for some advice. I have an XR6T 2004 BA MK2. It has done 121K, when driving along the freeway as I do everydday to work at say 80Kms/hr and I take my foot off the loud pedal as trafic in front slows then put back on as trafic speed increases I notice that the revs rise briefly by approx 200rpm or so then drop striaght back, it is definately not changing down a gear, if it was a manual you might say that the clutch was slipping, not too familiar with auto boxes but could I have problem? I sometimes feel that the car is not pulling as well as it should and again it feels as though a clutch is slipping. It still changes gear just fine in auto or manaul mode but the small rise in revs occurs in both modes, almost like there is a gear inbetween the normal gears. I also have a slight high pitched wine in first gear, getting a little worried as this is my day to day work car, ani ideas please
