  1. Great discussion guys!
  2. Great write up Simon and no I didnt take offence to what you said I am always open to opinions and advice.. Just to clarify what you have already mentioned there is alot more to venting gasses out of turbine than just porting and enlarging the hole. My argument was that I believed the same result could be achived by using a die grinder as opposed to having the housing CNCd. In saying that Now when I first strated modifiying XR6 Turbos I was told that making the wastegate hole round was the only way to do it. Everyone thought I was nuts and doing it wrong when I made the port a different shape but I insisted that's how I prefered to do it and kept my theories about it to myself. Now the funny thing is the people that thought I was nuts doing it the way I did have done there houisngs twice now! LOL! Ive had a few customers from other workshops come to my workshop as there cars were still over boosting after having there housing modified. On removing the turbo and inspecting it there were 2 thing evident straight away. First was the size and the shape of the wastegate port which looked it had been opened up with a large drill bit. The other thing that cauht my attention was the throw of the swing arm. The actuator one customer had on his car had 7mm less throw. Combined with the so called ported wastegate he would of been better leaving the car the way it was. Anyways thought id drop by and say hello!
  3. Mate the Potenza adrenalin's 17" are an awesome tyre for the price $250 a corner. I had these on my BA with around the 300rwkw mark and the grip was awesome. I then tried 17" Dunlop’s and maxxs and I was ice skating all over the road. I haven’t found a tyre that grips better for the price that’s actually a full street radial. that's a broad statement as I havnt tried every tyre but from the tyres I have tried the Potenzas were the best by far. Another bonus they have over the Dunlop’s is there ability to reduce road noise dramatically. Im due for tyres as well and Ill be getting Potenza adrenalin's without thinking twice about it. Good luck in your choice.
  4. The B series cars are not stolen that often. that's not to say they dont get stolen! Have a look at the statistics. Statistics on stolen cars in Australia.
  5. In business you sometimes find supplier or services that need a mention for there great customer service and down to earth approach. Trish and the guys at HotMetal Design get a great BIG thumbs up from me! Over the past few weeks they have been putting together a marketing and branding package for my business. Trish has gone over and beyond the call of duty to make it all happen for our business. Late nights, me calling 20 times a day asking for changes to this that and the other after I already said it was okay was never a problem. There attention to detail and providing exactly what we wanted and needed was a huge bonus for me and my business. Without HotMetal desigh we would not have been able to get our brand out there and have. Thanks again for all your hard work Trish and HotMetal Design! XR6 Turbo Developments
  6. I wouldnt even attemp it after I saw what a mate went through to fit a 600 wide cooler in his BA. The amount of grinding and cutting is not worth it. There are so many intercoolers available for B series Fords today that's its not worth the time and effort to fit a 600 wide cooler.
  7. I dont think that's its not venting enough gases I think your actuator is staying closed too long. How tight did you string the actuator up? Ive had 2 customers come to me with the same issue and when I pulled the turbo off to see how hard the actuator was adjusted they had almost taken up all the travel of the actuator. I have 14 cars running around with the same modification on the turbo as yours and not 1 has ever boost spiked. Call me in the morning so we can talk about it.
  8. Realised that after I read my post LOL!
  9. The increase in boost increases the fuel pressure which is controlled by the fuel presure regulator. Turn down the boost and the problem dissapears. Put a screw in the pressure relieve valve and turn the boost back and the issue goes.. that's not the correct fix but how we figured it out.
  10. Have you had the car tuned since you fitted the actuator and modified exhaust housing??
  11. All the standard pumps will flow around the same amount. We have found that pumps dont really run out of fuel flow its the fuel pressure that becomes an issue. You will find that the standard fuel pumps have a presure relief valve. When the inlet plenum presurises and the injectors open the pressure of the fuel system combined with the pressure in the inlet raises the pressure of the fuel system which opens the pumps relief valve. Results is a loss of fuel pressure and not fuel flow. GSS342 is the pump you want.
  12. Could be the waistgate flap jammed. Heve seen valve springs cause a similar issue before as well.
  13. Hey Simon, I didnt think you were directly having a go at me but thanks for clarifying it up. Its pioneers of development like yourself that most of these modifications have been spawned from so keep up the good work guys. Jimy
  14. Regardless of wheather you die grind the housing or use a CNC process to enlarge the hole ultimately you will achieve the same result which is opening up the waste gate port to enable gases to be vented more efficiently. Being more consistent with a product YES I agree is great way to do business. Unfortunately there are many factors such as the actuator itself that can throw that all out of balance. Recently we re-changed a new actuator on a vehicle that was just not holding boost correctly. We used the same ported housing which was not done by us and just replaced the actuator. We then data logged the vehicle and now we were commanding 84% duty cycle instead of 100% duty cycle to achieve the same amount of boost... And yes you are right “there is a little more to it than break out the die grinder†there is also adjusting the arm correctly to maintain a correct seal and setting the actuator pressure correctly by adjusting the rod which can not be done by any CNC machine as far as I know. I have also been brought exhaust housings off 1 year old vehicle with "slam tunes" in them and they are cracked! A visual inspection is always done and these units are NOT accepted as change overs either. We may not have the same budget as the larger companies do but we stand behind our products 100% and invite anyone to prove that they don’t work as well or better as competitor’s products at the same power levels. 15. Hi, yes we do them for $185 on a change over basis or we do yours for the same price. This price is only around until the end of the month and is exclusive to members of this forum. We also have garrett 12psi actuators for $146 which is until the end of the month or both for $310... Cheers,
  16. That’s a cheap price but keep in mind you will also need some type of boost controller. If you decide to use the factory boost controller you will need to also change your ECU and wiring harness which will have the plugs for the boost controller. On top of what you have I can see the following required to do it correctly. BA\BF plenum BF XR6 Turbo ECU XR6T injectors. XR6T boost controller XR6T engine wiring loom Water and oil pipes Intercooler pipes hot side and cold side pipes Turbo Exhaust system Boost sensor (under battery pipe) There are probably more things but these are just what I noticed right away.
