Simple fix with a cable tie.

I asked the same question when I had the ute as my wife is a shortie. Ford can supply the unit (motor and switch from memory) but it was expensive. My advice.. give ford spare parts a call or see if you can source one from a wreck.

Hi all, My wife has just purchased a new Renault Cleo Privelage..... Nice car but it has an almost white interior (bit lighter than that of a Fiesta Giah). As with most new cars purchased, there was the trip to visit the ad-on sales rep. I have fallen for this before and it cost me a packet so I opted out of any of this. Given the light colour of the interior, I am looking for advice on what I can do myself and save some dollars. Would it be as simple as applying some form of shotchguard or more involved?

Same problem here.. had it for the past 10,000km. I have been told by ford that it will not be the locator tabs as it is out of the date range (although I know of vehicles that had this problem out of the range) and unless they hear it they are not going to go looking for it. I have also been told that it is most likley a wear and tear issue which I will have to pay to have fixed. I have been in the boot when it has made the noise and I can tell them exactly where it is comming from but still no good. I have 4000km till the next service so I will wait to have it fixed then. All I need to do now is find a dealer in victoria who is willing to have a good look for it or one who already knows what it is..

Dont really want to play around too much or spend too much money so I am only planing on having it through the existing screen. From what I can gather, it is only a simple plug that is needed for an xbox to be connected and not the blau unit. I am also planing on installing a new amp with multiple imputs and hook the xbox audio to that and swich the signal when the xbox is in use. This frees up the aux imput for something else. I know aaronmihe was working on something but havent been able to fing anything.

I was just wondering if there was any new info in installing an Xbox in the XR? I have been searching for a couple of hours and found quite a bit of usefull info, but is there a document that shows what to do from start to finish with what parts are needed, cost etc??

The locator tab only needs grinding on car built berween 1st june and 1st october 2004. So if the cae was built in that date range then that could be it. I was told by ford that the locater tabs are smaller on cars built before 1st June (as is the problem with mine. it has the same annoying squeek and it is a may 03 build). A friend of mine works for ford and he had a look on the weekend and seems to think it is a faulty bush. Apparently there have been a few in at his work with the squeek and that has been the problem. I havent been able to get an answer for mine from ford as it only happens occasionaly and never when im near the dealer so they are refusing to touch it untill they hear it. I did come in one but they were "too busy to have someone look at it" and I couldnt leave it there. I took my old nissan pintara for a drive the other day. It is a heap of junk but a far quieter and enjoyable car to drive than the falcon when the rear is squeeking and the brakes are scraping!!

I just found one on ebay in the us that would work out to be $60 by the time I got it over here.. Can you switch between km and mph, meters and miles on them??

My XR is a May 03 build and I have the same problem.... Go over a soft bump and the rear right corner squeaks like crazy.

It is only the SP3000s that have the problem. It has been around for quite some time. All those with SP9000s are safe.

Sounds like it could be it but it says June 04 builds on... Mine is a June 03. Could it still be this, or have they changed things since then?

I have been told that unless they can hear the noise, they can't fix it which is fair enough. The problem is that I can never get it to do it when it is there to be looked at.

Welcome to the club! I have had mine looked at three times so far and nothing can be found... I have noticed that it happens more on warmer days or when I have a passanger in the rear. I can hit the largest bumps in the world and no noise but if I hit a slight dip in the road, it's there. There are a couple of threads on this floating around but no answers have been found as of yet. Hopefully you can ge some answers and let us know. Good luck, Lachlan

I too have the same squeak you are talking about exar... right rear. Comes and goes as it pleases. Driving me crazy.

Went in and had a few other problems fixed yesterday afternoon and asked about the altinator again, they said they doubt anything would be done about it. When I picked the car up, I was told that they had another look at it and had a fiddle and now it is much quieter. I don't know what they did but it is nowhere near as bad as it was before. I can live with it now. I will keep the noise supressor in mind as I am planning to beef up the speakers and amps in the near future. Thanks for your imput guys.

I too thought it was the power stearing pump for a while but it has been confirmed that it is the altinator. I can have the sterio off and it if still there, just as loud. The boys at ford had a look and said that they couldnt find where in the altinator it was comming from but nobody denied that it is there or that it is bloody loud. They compared it to another vehicle and while mine was a little louder, there was no need for concern.

My current car as well as my previous car (02 ba xr6 ute) has a noise comming from the altinator. It is like a loud electircal whine. It is far more noticable when the headlights are on and gets louder the faster you go. People have commented that they can hear it out of the car as I drive past them on the other side of the road. Ford has advised me that although it is quite loud.... it is quite acceptable. I remember reading here a while back that you could fit something to the altinator to stop this but I was unable to find it when I did a search. Any help would be much appreciated

Do You have a pollen filter? My dads Fairlane had the same thing, it was a leaf and the ford service boys cleaned it out and said that is he fitted a pollen filter it would stop it from happening again. My XR has the same problem but not too bad yet. Was getting a pollen filter anyway so will see how it goes.

Dees anyone know how to fix the noise comming through the sterio? I have the noise with the lights on and off. Ford claim they know nothing about it.

Problem solved. After blowing 9 fuses my appiontment at ford came around this morning. The problem was that when the towbar was fitted when I got the car, the half wit sat the wiring loom over the exhaust. Need I say any more?? Then they were going to charge me to fix it!!

Over the past couple of days I have been blowing the 15amp tail light fuse.. I turn the headlights on then I gear a "crack" then I have no dash lights, tail lights and the ICC stays lit up. I had the lights on for 5 minutes after replacing the last one and it went. I took the car into ford today and they said that it was possibly something to do with the way the trailer plug was connected. If it is a genuine foed fitted part the it would be covered under warranty, otherwise I would have to take the vehicle back to where I got it from (geelong) and get them to fix it. I had the towbar fitted when I got the car last week and it has only started to happen since Saturday and I have blown 4 fuses since then. Does the diagnosis sound correct?
