  3. I think the damp roads were assisting in keeping boost down, but most of the time I never got through 2nd before backing off. Once I did tramp on it at about 90kmh - it kicked back to 2nd and just started fishtailing, then changed into 3rd and kept going. I got off the gas pretty fast after that - but that was damp road too. It felt pretty good. It's given me the taste of real grunt and now that the car is out of warranty ..................
  4. I drove the whole time with the radio and the air con switched off. No pinging at all. When it died on me on Saturday I must have popped the max boost trigger in the ECU. I dunno what pressure that is - searching in the archives here I think 9 or maybe 12 psi ???? That was the only time it must have peaked at way above normal. Most of the Easter weekend was wet or damp, and with the spooling sound so loud I was only stomping on it for a few seconds, getting wheel spin and backing off. I hope no damage done
  5. OK ratter, You win - first reply! Finally the guys in the worshop found their mistake today and plugged the actuator hose back in. That's why it was boosting off the scale. That's why the spooling was noisier. All fixed. My old T is back. Thanks guys.
  6. Well, no boost checking for me now. The engine went into limp mode (I think) on the way back from shops this morning when I picking up the tee piece and some silicone hose. Gave it a little squirt in 1st, started spooling up, then there was a popping noise and power was gone. It ran like a ragged dog on 3 or 4 cyl for a minute or so till I found somewhere to pull over. I switched it off, rang the workshop telling them something very serious was definitely happening, then after ~10 minutes, restarted it and it is running fine again. I have been for a short drive since and the turbo is still spinning up, but I'm not going to drive it any more except to the workshop on Monday morning. Over boost I'm guessing. Hopefully they'll get to the bottom of it and I'll get my old T back.
  7. OK Guys, Supercheap cheapest - $69 I rumbled through my stuff and have a 3" 0-100psi gauge that should do, plus some lengths of hose and tube and fittings. Next dumb question - Where is the easiest place to temporarily tap into pressure? I've had a look around under the bonnet and there are no obvious spots jumping out at me.
  8. Yes, I will take this sensible advice.
  9. If that was the case, it's been seriously ill since new. The grunt it has now is verging on silly (for a gentleman driver such as myself). It starts whistling on 1/4 throttle and if the road is damp I have to be somewhat cautious when giving it a squirt. If the surface is dry, I'm starting to go sideways giving it a squirt during a gentle curve. The traction control doesn't seem to be dealing with it well and it's going sideways already before the T/C light comes on. I've booked it back at the shop to get the waste gate actuator checked out once and for good.
  10. Huh! Connecting one wire! Those engine tuning companies must be making a killing! ZF auto. I had it tramping in 2nd today.
  11. I got it back from them tonight after they checked and rechecked. It still goes like a rocket! It has never felt as quick - not even in the first month after picking it up. It's a company car and consequently, I've never bothered finding out exactly how boost is regulated or where all the little hoses go! I see how that all works now. Potentially very nasty - but there is no pinging and it is running smooth as so far. The workshop checked it over today.
  12. I thought I would loose boost with a leaky hose? Whatever. Damn! It sure feels good. I suppose melted pistons or a blown engine will be the eventual result it is left as is It's back in the workshop now getting checked - I knew it was too good to be true.
  13. I had my car in getting the exhaust studs fixed last week. The guys in the workshop said that a couple of studs had fallen right out! They had to take the turbo and exhaust manifold off and replace a few studs. It is a fairly common problem AFAIK. Anyway, since I got the car back, I hear it spooling louder, and even distinct fluttering that I never heard before. It is totally a stock BFII T with standard intake and air filter. It goes like a cut snake now and traction control cuts in in the dry in 1st and 2nd easy. Maybe in 3rd too but I haven't had enough room to test it! I took it into the workshop with exhaust noise - Now I have problems with axle tramp LOL! Any ideas what these guys could have done? (BTW, I use Caltex 98 and have no pinging)
  14. 3 1/4 years old and just topped 67,000 in my BFII. Various diff bushes and a trailing arm bush changed out. 2 weeks ago it started making really loud leaky exhaust sounds and I found out half the studs had fallen out. Got the exhaust manifold all restudded and regasketed and now it pulls harder then ever!

    Fishing

With 2 young kids who like fishing things are looking OK. I have mostly fly fished around Oz, NZ, Fiji. Now I spend time with them mostly dangling prawns or trolling for flatties in the local area. Not as exciting, but it's great that they are now old enough to sit in the boat for 3 - 4 hours. Hopefully they will migrate to soft plastics in the next year and start developing some real hunting instincts :~) One of my best achievements - from Lord Howe Is off the rocks on an 11 wt - Love kingies.
  16. When I got up to around 25,000 I didn't think they would make it to 30,000. I think I subconsciously backed off the loud pedal from that point I got a little surprised by the rear end letting go very easily out of a corner this morning on wet Sydney roads (with the traction control off) - I only have 0.5mm above the wear indicators left - so the Kumhos have been put on order! Since I do drive fairly conservatively, my concerns about front or rear fitting are mainly about minimising noise. Dunlop seem to have a special talent for making excessively noisy tyres and I suspect they get noisier as they wear down. I think the rear might be the place for the new Kumhos.
  17. Hi All, I need 2 new tyres - my rears are worn out. They did OK with 43,000km on them. I'm going for Kumho KU31. My question is about tyre noise - I will have 2 x factory Dunlop SP3000 with about 70% left and 2 new KU31. I think the KU31 will be quieter. I know I should put them on the front, but would that give the best reduction in road noise?
  18. In August, Sept, Oct last year, EVERY speed camera on the Northern Beaches of Sydney was destroyed by fire. EVERY ONE. All replaced now though and I haven't seen any of the new units re-torched, though it wouldn't surprise me at all if they all got burnt again in the next few months. From the original Arizona article, one thing interests me - the fact that mail is not a provable method of delivering the ticket. I wonder if anybody has argued it here lately? In about 1980 I got really cranky when a summons appeared in the mail for an unpaid parking ticket - Some @#$%^&* took the ticket off my car - first thing I knew about it was when I received a summons to appear to contest the fine or alternatively pay the fine and costs (This was in the days when the ticket was left on the windscreen and there were no warnings or reminders sent in the post). I wrote a letter offering to pay the fine only, arguing that had I known I had a ticket, I'd have paid it right away and that it was not my fault that the ticket was left in a place where anybody could walk by and take it. The court told me to shove it up my $%^& and pay the costs. This is my favourite - Trust American kids to run with what is an obvious flaw in the whole speed camera concept! Speed Camera Pimping!
  19. http://oddee.com/ This one does it for me! There is always something to keep me amused.
  20. I just downloaded this to my Nokia and it turns the phone into a WLAN - with full WEP security log in. Pretty nifty. JoikuSpot wireless LAN for Nokia On my Optus account I get just over 1mb/s download speed to my laptop. Not too shabby for a mobile connection. I'm sure a USB stick modem may be more convenient, but with JoikuSpot, you only have one device, one account, one bill to pay. Better have cheap data rates though
  21. Just out of interest - Via my mobile phone -
  22. iiNet (Old Ozemail) Adsl over home wireless network.
  23. It probably is a juice sucker, but I have a cradle with a charging pin so the phone is on charge all the time in the car anyway. None of the latest generation of Nokia phones hard-wire into the car kits any more - connection is by BT only now. My E71 is perfecto in the car now :~)
  24. BTW, the Nokia CK-100 price is around $200 shopped online. The kit includes everything needed for install except the RCA to AUX jumper cable - that's DIY.
  25. Strathfield couldn't work it out. They did the phone part, through the car kit port, but not the streaming. I had a look and the Nokia CK-100 has RCA pre-outs on it, so it turned out to be a super simple jumper cable from the RCAs to the AUX inputs behind the fuse box. It sounds awesome - I have to try hard to hear the difference between it and the CD player, if there is one. Sound is quite loud - No engine noise. And the CK-100 is smart enough to fade out the music when a call comes, and fade it back in at the end of the call. I think this Nokia CK-100 kit would be an excellent option for anyone installing a hands free kit AND who wants to stream music wirelessly from their phone at the same time. It will also support a phone connected on normal mono bluetooth AND a separate music player streaming on A2DP I.e. iPod.
