  1. Thanks Rob, I used Castrol GTX 15/40 when I did the first change at 2200 and Just had my second oil flush and change + filter at the dealer today at 3500km, they use CastrolFMX 15W40. It's really starting to open up now, I've been pushing it hard up some mountain dives and the powers comin on stronger every day. I'm keen to see how you go with these susp upgrades. I'm pretty happ with mine stock on most of the roads I drive on except some of the rougher back roads. I just drove from the MNC to Armidale and back, did about 700km of some pretty hard driving on twisty roads with long winding hill climbs and descents, which vary from good surface to pretty dodgy. Most of the good to medium quality roads it handled perfectly, stayed pretty flat and full grip, but got a bit skitty when going hard into corners on slightly rougher roads - almost felt like it was a fraction firm when the surface was bumpy. the R-Specs tracpak susp seems pretty good allround, but I would maybe like it a little more flat and stable at speed on the twisty lumpy roads. If the set up your going after is more for track, will this still be good on country roads? I'm driving on these roads 60% of the time and the rest on the highways, would you think a set-up like what your doing would work on my car where I'm driving? Cheers Paul
  2. Hi Massiv the run in sounds OK, this is my second turbo Ford and I'm just running it in now too. One other thing the book says is at say 60, 80 or 100km/h shift down 1-2 gears and allow it to rev at higher rpm, but same speed for short periods. This helps distribute oil at higher pressure to lubricate and bed in all parts, esp if you're driving on longer flat roads where you cant go up hills to put load on the engine. Also go through the gears from standing starts with moderate accelleration from time to time Also good idea to take advantage of Fords free 3000km service (although oil and filter are not free), the labour and all safety checks are free - get them to do oil flush+filter as well. Even do an extra oil change at 1500km - its something alot of the guys on here do, and when I did mine the other day at2200km, its surprising just how much filings are in it - it certainly doesnt hurt. Cheers Paul
  3. Certainly OTT My last BFII XR6T was $175 at 7 and 15k's incl oil flush and $231 at 20,000kms with wheel alignment and balance+full 10L Oil flush. Then 30,000k was $245 inc oil flush. Both that dealer and my current dealer (both NSW) said my new F6R Phoon would cost the same at each interval. Call Ford CCA and check with them - there are standard labour times and RRP on rates that should apply, and materials/parts should be RRP. Sounds rich. Cheers Paul
  4. Hey Rob, the white RSpec looks awesome. They are a great car - enjoyed your trip highlights, it's great having partners that are into the car too! I've followed yr lead on the oil change, just done mine at 2200k's (oil was quite dark when draining out the last 4L) - are you doing filter too at 1500? Re: Water temp. From my limited experience - my last XR6T used to heat up to 1/2 way if I'd been driving hard then stop (even after a 3min idle down) and driving into traffic on hot days would do it, but only after driving alot b4 hand. My new F6 is also running about 1/3, then gets up to 1/2 after stopping (following 3min idle down). It seems pretty normal from my last two cars anyway - I was enquiring about the same thing and 3 different service mechanics said it was absolutely normal around 1/2 way is normal temp range.
  5. Thanks again - I certainly agree with you on the last point, I am learning alot from this forum. And it seems prudent not to turn this inot another long thread. I will probably wait until 20k's and transition to synthetic, I have just been on the Castrol site and into V8 supercar info on Edge, and it seems sound too that so many "higher performance" engines are running it. Cheers Paul
  6. Country km's are a good thing for any engine re performance, more so on tar rds, not too bad on dirt - except if they're sucking in dust from other cars- I live rural & do 70-100,000kms on open roads, some cars fair well but not those constantly driving through dusty air. Check inside the air filter box on the engine side of the filter and into the intake- if theres dust in there I'd be concerned. Also if any service history - better theres changes every 7000km in dusty conditions. I agree with the others - go with your gut. There's plenty of XR6T's on and coming onto the market.
  7. Thanks Tab, just did oil with some GTX3 15W40 (I'd also noticed Rob did the same too in his new white RSpec) and flushed it with an extra 4L. The beast's lovin it! And yes I agree there's a mute point on the spotties - theyre a necessity my neck o' da woods. I prefer my front end minus a hopping hood ornament. Anyone - a number of dealers have told me not to change to synthetic ever- why?? I've seen plenty of threads and read alot of them where people are using Castrol Edge 0W40 (dont want to start another oil thread) but the dealers comments have me confused. Cheers Paul
  8. Thanks for the Welcome gys, I'm stoked about the car, and about joining "the F6 club" . I was thinking about doing an oil change now (at 2200km) but have the free 3000km service, I'll probably have 3000k's next 2 weeks. Is it worth doing it now? A mate told me they put "running in" oil - very low weight and xtra low viscosity Does anyone know what viscosity this running in oil is?
  9. Hey your bionic looks the bomb! Cool ride, how's it going...? Did you get the certificate, and goodies from FPV, or direct from the dealer? Just got one myself B4 Xmas, put 2000 clicks on it already, drives like a dream.
  10. Thanks, I'll transfer the roo lights with another plate bar (not the nudge) onto the Phoon soon as I'm out of - "but it's brand new" mode (so a week or so). The colour's Lightening Strike, not sure but think the flash makes it look flat.
  11. Hi All Just joined, and just became new F6 RSpec owner (along with some others I’ve seen posted). I have been visiting the site for a while, and been reading various posts with interest, had a couple of XR6’s recently, and after getting the Phoon and with some holiday time, thought I’d get involved and “post”. The journey to get into my Phoon has been quite long, and I have gone through many cars to get to an XR6T, then to this F6– what I consider to be the best sports sedan I’ve ever driven. Over the last 13 yrs I’ve owned and driven (both here+OS) VW Superbug (2L twin holleys), Company Commodores (VP and VS), VW golf VR6, Subaru Forester GT (un-tuned, then tuned to 200 kw atw - my first turbo love), and then in Europe, a VW Bora 2.8 (loan), Volvo T4 (loan), 03BMW 328is, VW Passat, Audi S4 (2.7 V6 Twin Turbo), then back here another Subie Forester, then a 93 BMW 525i, a new Discovery 3 4.2V8 (big mistake), then got an older 80 series a Landcruiser (family truck, off roader and tower) and my first XR6, then the Xr6Turbo….never looked back…….now the Phoon. I’m in love. When we got back from OS, I needed a cheap car to get started again, and the BM was a good unit. Unfortunately the 525i came to an untimely death due to a 5’6” roo which I failed to dodge at 100kmh, luckily I hit it straight on, front folded in, I walked out alive. It was a great car, beautiful inline 6 (my 328is was a bit quicker but not as stable) which revved high and gave nice torque. The BFXR6 with the ZF came after that, and it was surprisingly good, performed better than the BM, handled better (I realized sfter having subies now I no longer needed 4WD). I started putting k’s on it quickly and so got out of it quickly and with a great trade in got into the BFIIXR6T again with ZF and both in lightening strike (as is the new RSpec). The XR6T was great, and as I live in country NSW I put 40+K's on it in no time and it was just hitting its prime. Then I was about to spend some $s to upgrade suspension, brakes get an extra 60kw and thought, what I would spend on it I may be better off looking at the Phoon. So I started to look around as there were some great deals going. I went out and test drove the BFII F6, BFII GT with 290 and 302, both VE SS and Bogan special , Calais V – none could match the handling/power/torque combo of the Phoon – all the VE’s still rolled– both my previous XR6’s and the new Phoon stay so flat in turns, flat and great turn in - this was a key as was power and oooh that torque. That was it, I was hooked – had to have it. So I e-mailed about 6 dealers with what I wanted, and details on the XR6T I was trading, and I always thought I’d have to cough up the difference as I still owed 42K on it. Until one dealer offered to pay it out (that’s with 48,000km on the clock and I’d only paid $43k for it new12 months ago!) and got me in a spankin new R Spec for List Price – all over the phone, I put a credit card down on it, and drove 300k’s to go pick it up. Done. So far I’ve put 2 grand on the clock, and run it in through Nth’n NSW backroads, highways and a trip down to Sydney and back. It’s a better handler than either of the BM’s I’d driven and if the XR6T was anything to go by, with a few more country miles on it, it’ll be an absolute stormer – these engines just love to be driven, they really start to come alive after 20kkm. It’s just so much fun to drive. Some of the roads I drive are really twisty, some long hill climbs, then sweeping turns and long straights – It just does everything so well. I have seen the light. So I have a new love, and no, my wife’s not jealous anymore, she got to drive it today, and she’s in love too –looks like I’m in a threesome! Sorry I’ve gone on a bit, but had to share this journey and my new baby – here’s some pics of the new RSpec and of the short stayed but much loved XR6 (non turbo) and XR6T. Cheers, off to bed now, each night’s like Christmas – can’t wait to drive it tomorrow.
