  1. Speaking of round the corner from bruce, I reckon I'll start getting services there. Problem is hes a long way from me, I live near hindmarsh stadium. Whats near by to kill a few hours? As for sleeping in the loaner.... lol.... I wondered why it stunk.......
  2. Plaza automatics did the trans rebuild, I've used them before, but not for a performance car. They seemed to know there stuff with the BTR, time will tell Kims the owner, seems like a good bloke. I gottta go back for the 1 month/1000km once over. Bruces loaner does have a/c, and it works! I drove it to my place, where it sat for 2 days before going back. No way did I want to drive that thing unless I had to. I cant stand rattles, that thing almost has more rattles than miles.
  3. Its the 4 spd auto. I had it strengthened during the rebuild. I didnt know what to ask for, warned them I was going to get a tune etc. They said they use some AU bits and pieces in them, which they believe are stronger. Less pitch on the planetary gears they also believe to make them stronger. Had to trust them, I don't know anything about transmissions.... Yeah it was Bruce's Lancer. I was kidding. One of his guys joked with me when I left, that it wouldn't matter what they did to my car, I'd walk out happy after having the loan car! Definitely right on some level. Could have taken the turbo off and I would have still thought it was awesome for a while! Only managed to give the xr a squirt a couple of times since getting it back, I need a bit more room that before Loving the sound it now makes as it spools up! Only a few of my friends know I got a tune, cant wait till I take some of the unsuspecting ones for a spin.... I'll keep my eye out for meet ups...
  4. Hi All Just wanted to introduce my self after years of living in the shadows. I've got a BA MK XR6T that I've had for over 5 years. Was bog stock (apart from a air intake) up until last week. Recent service report was bad, turbo and trans were sick (cars only done 72k km!). Had the trans rebuilt just before xmas, and last week it went to Bruce at lonsdale, thanks for the advice J@SNOT in another thread. Ended up rebuilding the turbo, drilled+slotted rotors + pads, and a tune. Got 256rwkw, up from 198, the 3rd lowest he'd ever seen! I also finally removed the dust covers from the wheels, after bruce mentioned they just pull off, wish I knew years ago, I always hated the things. Despite wanting to keep the loan car (whos had the 'pleasure' of having it for a few days?), pretty happy with what I've got, probably should have done it years ago!! Wonder how long till stage 2 At the moment I dont know what I dont know (aka dust covers!), keen to learn..... without having to read 222 pages of history, are there any cruises / meet ups that go on? I'd like to meet up with other owners...
  5. Sweet, thanks for the info. Got the trans booked in already, sticking with the guy I know, he seemed pretty knowledgable about the 4speed BTR, and spent ages explaining its workings to me. Trans cooler going in at same time. That just leaves the turbo and tune. Does Heinrich rebuild turbos? If not, anyone have recommendations in adelaide? I'll just get the standard rebuilt, I dont play in exceeding 300rwkw...
  6. Hi Setting the scene: I've got a XR6T BA MK2 I've had since 01/08, bought second hand with 37,000 on the clock, now has 70,600. Its been served by a Ford dealer its whole life but I swapped to KPM a few years back. It's well looked after. Have a Alpine stereo (with Type S speakers to match) since the factory premium sound started skipping, and a typhoon air intake. Problem: The diff clunk has been getting worse the last year or so, and in first gear it sounds like a ufo, it has a weird whine. I also thought I saw a bit of white smoke in my rear view last time I gunned it from stand still. The recent service report wasn't pretty, clunk is caused by transmission, which probably needs a rebuild, and the smoke was probably caused by the turbo which is showing signs of leakage and will likely need a rebuild down the road a little further :( Solution 1: My initial reaction was to head to car yards, buy a 2011 FG T with low km's and be done with it. After driving a couple, and looking at the change over cost, I've decided I'd rather keep my current one for a few more years (its still my baby!) Solution 2: Get the trans rebuilt (4 spd auto), wait and see with the turbo. I know an honest transmission workshop, who I'm going to see in a couple days. Assuming it has be to rebuilt, I'm thinking I should get it strengthened. I'm not really sure what to ask for though?! Is there anything else I should ask for? I've always thought the 4spd is sluggish when accelerating, anything they can do there? I've been holding off on getting an edit done for the last couple of years because I didn't like the sound of the diff clunk. Its quite likely I'll get a basic edit done once the trans is done. Nothing crazy. With the car getting older, I've heard I'll probably have to get the valve springs replaced at the same time, does that sound right? If that has to be done, I should get the injectors done at the same time? I'm guessing an edit will bring on the turbos demise sooner ... oh well ... Thanks for any input!
  7. Happy Birthday xb99!

  8. Hi All The factory six stacker in my premium sound BA MKII XR6T started to go (skipping randomly), so I took the opportunity to upgrade the whole stereo. I bought a Alpine headunit, Alpine typeR 6" splits for the front, alpine typeR 6x9s for the rear, all driven by alpines 600W 4ch amp. I'm pretty happy with the result, I had a similar set up in my VL Calais, except I had a lower rated amp, and kenwood 7x10's in the rear. I mainly listen to rock music , and with my 7x10 setup I didn't need a sub. With the 6x9's I'm lacking a little bass, but not much. Rather than buy another amp+sub for a fraction more bass, I have an idea!.... My question is: Can you convert the factory premium sound amp+sub to rca's and then put them into the back of a after market deck?? What wires on the factory amp can be converted to RCA's? I know the factory amp+sub is pathetic compared to the fully amp'ed type-r's.... but it should give me the fraction more bass I crave. And its still sitting in the car, amp, disconnected. I've searched the forums, and found lots of people wanting to after market sub from the factory, I want to do the opposite!! Surely someones done this before... Thanks!
  9. Just dont get it done at Lower North East Mechanics (or something similar) who are right near campelltown. I took my old VR Commy there a few times, dodgy work. Last straw was when they wanted to replace the powersteering rack. Took the car else where (loose family friend), had it booked into be carried out, dropped it off, got a call about 1 hour later. They said they had a look and could not justify the work, the powersteering was fine....... I kept the car for 18months after that incident, no power steering trouble at all in that time........ DODGY If the one your looking at is shockwave, I believe RSK had a look at it, can't remember what he said about it. Maybe PM him. Pretty sure the owner of it was an ex-cop, and took him for a hell of a ride in it!
  10. I'm new myself, haven't even posted to say I bought one yet! lol. Anyway, I ended up with a BA mkII xr6T from a dealer. The car was still under new car warranty for 10 months, then 2y2m of dealer warranty, which doesnt cover as much. Most mk2's would still have some ford new car warranty left anyway, so it shouldnt matter if you get from a dealer or private. The main reason I ended up with one from a dealer was there were only a couple for sale in SA privately, and they weren't what I was after, or they were overpriced. Plus I had a 94 VR Late model camira I wanted to trade, couldnt be bothered selling it privately. Are you thinking of modding? If you are the warranty isnt really worth much, coz your gonna void it!!! (I'm not sure if I'll last out the 10 months of ford warranty or not...)
  11. Any recommendations for Tint in Adelaide ?? (or do I have to get the much loved Bob kidnapped and brought to SA?!) After a 20% tint.
  12. Hey Guys Just an update, I turned the car down, seemed like the right thing to do. Last resort was ringing around the area where the guy lived, no mechanic remembered the car, but the pub did. lol. Hope it goes to a good home, but it was too hard to overlook lack of service history! Still in the hunt! -Ryan
  13. Dealer has to provide 3month warranty, and they are happy to sell me an additional one for 1k, which last 4 years, max payout in one claim of 2k, backed by an insurance company (not backed by the dealership).
  14. It was 23k change over with my VR commdore. Which is about my budget.
  15. Thanks for the advice, waiting to see what tomorrow brings, but I'm doubtful the history will turn up. Car is out of warranty, its a 11/03. Older than I originally wanted, but its only done 51k, and its in excellent condition. Was MEANT to have full service history. For the condition the body and interior is in, I find it so unlikely the previous owner didnt service it.
  16. Hey Guys First Post! Started reading a few weeks ago when my hunt for XR6T's began. This forum has been a great source of information so far. Great community. I bought a XR6T on saturday from a dealer in Adelaide (where I live), subject to the dealer providing the cars service history and fixing a cosmetic issue. The car has had two owners, one bought it from the dealer I'm buying it from new, he kept it for 19k (got the 3k and 15k service done), when he traded it back to the dealer and another guy bought it. This guy lived way up north of SA, in a tiny town. He did another 30k then traded it too. While he had it, the service book was lost and he didnt service it at the ford dealer I'm getting it from, so they have no record. The dealer can't locate the 30k service (not sure how hard they have tried...) Does anyone know if alll the dealers are linked? I have the rego and the vin of the car if anyone happens to work in a ford service dept! I'm going to call the dealer tomorrow and apply some more pressure, coz at this stage I'm going to have to rip up the contract. I'm not keen on a car that has no service history from 19k to 51k (where it is now). Under the carpet in the boot there was red dust galore, the 'detailers' must have missed it. Can't imagine what the airfilter was like after 30k without a change with that amount of dust!! Externally and internally the car looks great, its one of the best I've seen, be such a shame if I have to turn it down because of missing paper work. Any help/advice?
