Thanks K31th, that's great info and somewhere for me to start looking. Is it tuneable with stock gear or does it need something else attached?
-
So, looks like I have an overboost problem. I will take it to a mechanic shortly but just interested in a couple things. Still completely stock, except for springs and shocks, bought new for the missus June 2006 (130km) and has been faultless for all these years. I noticed it overboosting a few weeks ago, which is very enjoyable until it would go into limp home mode. A simple turn off and on again fixes it. Has been in for a service, found some intercooler pipes a bit loose, tightened up which helped but it's still overboosting and cutting out (fuel?) now and not going into limp so much more manageable. Attached a Jaycar OBD reader, installed Torque Pro and if it's reading correctly it's cutting out at 12psi which I believe is way over the 6-7psi for standard?? There is a fair bit more (what I think is) turbo noise too. It never gets there when the missus drives it (at least that I know of!!) so really only a problem for me. So, couple questions; How accurate is the Torque Pro when reading the boost? It will run between -12 and +12 (+12 is where it cuts out) Have done a bit of research and it seems actuator and split hoses can cause these issues, anything else to look at? The "tune" folk talk of, is this possible on stock gear? If not, what's required? If we leave it as it (I do quite like the extra go :-) ) what damage will it cause if we occasionally hit 12psi? Last but not least, any recommended mechanic\tuners in the area Gladesville to Paramatta?

Folks, looking for recommendations for good transmission repair (or replace) mechanic in Sydney. 2006 BF turbo with 114k on it, terrible when cold, takes off ok, then when it "takes up", feels like it slips, then often a nasty clonk when going into gear. Settles down when warm but still not 100%. Have visited dealer 3 times, changed oil, done software, reset but same result. Recommended replace with refurb, 6k drive in drive out but thought I'd check the traps first as I reckon that's probably the quick and easy fix which I understand however reckon going direct to trans expert might save a few bucks.

righto. it's sometime down the track and everythings been fine I did actually take a spanner to it and thought that one of the terminals had not been done up tight enough, but thought with the amount of removal etc it went through at the time, this wouldn't have been the problem, but it seems it was...... So, it's been fine since I did that thankfully. Sorry, bit late I know, but it's now got just over 47k on it.

It's the way I'm thinking although, I have to say since my local dealer quoted me $360/tyre for the std Dunlops, I'm not so sure I really want to....., then when I came back with a quote of $230 for the same thing, they tried to match it I think I'll go elsewhere. Shame you're not in Sydney, I could use some of that "awsome dealer" vibe! thanks for your input. Let's just hope it's a dodgy cable or something basic and not an alternator or worse draining battery when turned off

Folks, Following is a problem I've encountered. It's a bit of a novel, so I will ask the question now, but please feel free to read and comment. I have an electrical problem, and what I'm wondering is where would you go to get it fixed? To the dealership (not under warranty any more) or to an auto electrician? Anyway, the problem. Standard June 06 turbo with luxo pack. Battery been a bit lazy starting for a few weeks, expecting to replace soon (this may be a furphy) but last Wed there was just nothing, not even internal lights, nothing. Thought ok, that's it for the battery even though thinking it's a bit weird there was no life whatsoever. Called NRMA, replaced battery, all good. Drove the kids to Gymnastics later that day, stopped there for 1.5 hours, started, drove home no problem. Car sits in garage until Friday morning and guess what, completely dead again. What is going on. Call NRMA, guys comes out, jump starts car, go for a drive for about 40min to charge up (while doing this, it went into limp home mode, no revs above, 3750ish, NO SPEEDO very weird) reversed car into garage (in case of needing a jump start) turn car off. Return 15min later car starts no problem, speedo back revs back all good. NRMA guy did test to see if there was any current drawn when car was off and locked, no current drawn. So, long weekend, family going away, do I take it or the trusty 92 Corolla? What the hell, live on the edge. Drive about 2 hours, stop for the night, guess what, completely dead in the morning. Give up, enjoy (the rainy) weekend, jump start, drive home, park in the garage, turn car off and take negative lead off battery hoping when we put it back on it will start.

Hi Ford_Lover, Off to the snow this weekend, but would like to know, what make/model/size are the chains? did you buy or hire? thanks
-
For anyone who is interested, bought one of these a couple of weeks back. Probably the same as Cro's. Works well. Dangerous to know you can buy online from Snap On........
-
Isn't that why you buy a ute?
-
that did the trick, thanks, mp3 volume to max, and no whine here, but then she's at work
-
I have supposedly had the booster installed from factory, but when I plug in my mp3 player, I have to crank the volume right up to get any sound. If I'm reading it right, it "should" be installed as the booster comes with the retractable cable which I have. Any thoughts? Anyway I can check the booster part has been installed? Might have to talk with the service guys.

I'm with you on this. For the first few hundred ks, all is nice and firm working well, and then it hit's about 1000 and starts to go down hill from there. Wallowing, unsettled on bumps, cornering not so sharp, corning with bumps downright scary and I'm not even giving it any. Looks like some good suggestions here. Have a read of this, based on BAmk1 but I guess still relevant.

no avatar of the Australs here? I expect they're acceptable anywhere even here. rjn (ae93gti elsewhere)

Having owned a Mk1, then getting the BF a month or so ago, there is really no comparison. This is a far far better car, NVH is way way down and the 6sp auto is a godsend! Resale value not so good, but I think if all goes well, I will run this one for longer than 3 years. Congrats and enjoy your new motor the way it's supposed to be enjoyed! With a BIG @rse smile on your face!!!

Perfect! thanks for the info Cro. It just had to go to at least 50psi, 60 is no problem. I have a go kart gauge but it only goes to 40psi, which is fine as I don't run over that except if you accidentally pump them up to over 40 and then check, it screws the internals in the gauge, learnt that the hard way Any more info, part number, where to buy (not sure about flagging down a snap on truck??)?? Might try my local mechanic.
