  1. yep, a rodent. just not sure if I swap an icc from another car if that will work and demonstrate if the problem is within the icc or will it not work anyhow from a different car?
  2. well as you can see there has been a visitor in the filter and I have replaced it and cleaned it all. however the fault remains. radio is doing weird stuff, same with the a/c controls. the horn doesnt work but the relay is clicking so I think that one is just a wire or similar on the actual horn. there is an alarm in the car from previous owner, also centre pod gauges and electric trailer brake system. so these all have wiring attached, which could possibly cause problems. we removed the icc unit -there was no evidence of damage/rats in the wiring etc there. you can see they have left little footprints on the plastic mouldings of the console on the sides -beside the radio controls etc. any further ideas appreciated. im not too sure if swapping the icc from the other car will prove anything or if it will result in me needing to send the car to ford to re-code/scan (twice). we put a scanner on it and the software was only able to check engine which came up with no error codes on engine (it couldnt check icc etc)
  3. Well you guys are amazing! Accurate information... I didnt see any evidence of a rodent in the car but then noticed a small stain on the passengers floor mat. Opened the glovebox and removed the aircon filter as suggested...hooley dooley, what a mess! see picture..
  4. thanks, if I do change the icc over would that mean it wont prove anything coz it wont work without going to ford? and would I still have to go back to ford again to recode my old one back in? just thgt it ma be a way of isolating the fault to change over, but maybe it wont prove anything?
  5. Thanks, trying it this time..... sorry for shouting...the computer I was using had a sticking caps key. All ok now back on my own computer. I will see if I can find the bem-back of radio from what ive read. Very interesting, thanks. I'll check that today. There is zero smell in the car but they dont need to nibble much...the other fault for the starter circuit was caused by only a very small chew mark. Is this aircon pipe a plastic chilled air carrier or some other type of pipe? Any clue to how to find this to have a look? Thanks again for replying. Sorry I didnt make it clear in my original post, but this is a BA model xr6t
  6. yeah, that's a fascinating one. that's the sort of thing im trying to trace...the weird stuff. how did u rectify this? change the icc? reset something? go to ford? ALSO I HAVE ANOTHER IDENTICAL VEHICLE SO WE COULD SWAP SOMETHING OVER IF ANYONE HAS AN IDEA WHAT. NOT SURE IF THE VARIOUS MODULES ARE ONLY SUITABLE TO THAT PARTICULAR CAR? ANY IDEA? THANKS HEAPS EVERYONE. THANKS.... im a novice on forums, will see if I can. not sure what that will do. I thought I would reply to everyone who took the time to respond. ill learn as I go. thanks PS...I HAVE READ THAT LOTS Of people need wiring diagrams. I have finally obtained these so please feel free to ask if you need to borrow these
  7. thanks, ive ruled out battery by using a donor battery on jumper leads. I have a feeling there may be some type of memory preserving battery for keeping the data backed up...somewhere! thanks, weve gone over the wiring very closely and checking it with meters and visual (the good thing is that before the wires get chewed, a lot of insulation needs to be chewed first which is fairly obvious to the eye. thanks for the good idea, I will check again with that in mind. im really feeling its a logic/computer type of fault. ive read on forums that there is also a switch in the kick panel somewhere to reset some logic circuits. will try to find that if anyone has any info on it thanks ah thanks, that's the sort of thing I was wondering... resetting logic circuits. radio does turn on so I expect this isnt a power circuit problem, more a computer or logic type of prob. will give it a go thanks thanks, weve checked them thoroughly
  8. Thanks for replying.... there is no evidence the little rodent was inside the cabin, only under the bonnet. There is no smell or droppings etc. Car is spotless inside. Car is dry inside but it was in a moist environment. I think if there was a fuse blown the fault would be not working at all rather than doing bizarre things. maybe there is a reset for the radio or icc/bem etc. cheers
  9. Hi forum members, I have an xr6t with just over 100k km on clock. it hasnt been driven for 2 years, only started and moved a couple of times in the 2 years. The last start was about 7 months ago. When I went to put it back on the road last week, it wouldnt start. The symptoms were no power getting to the fuel pump (as you can usually hear it prime up), and also the radio wont work, nor the interior fan and electric seat doesnt move. The icc displayed graphics but didnt show any change when a/c or audio buttons pressed. Lastly, the trip meter display shows normal odometer but things like km/l and range have reset to zero. Horn dead. All these things were operating normally before. So, we painfully traced the wiring loom from the engine bay fuse box back across the radiator to the passengers side, thru the inner guard to where it re-enters the engine bay at the passengers side rear corner near the ABScontroller. We found that a rat had chewed the wiring loom and munched out the brown wire which sends signal from the ecu back to the fuse box. We repaired that and any other wire which looked at all imperfect, then reassembled. Car starts!!! BUT, the audio is still whacked up. Same faults except we now find that holding down 2 or3 radio buttons at the same time will make the radio sorta work, but its really odd. Touching the AC button changes stations, CD FM and AM indicators are all on at the same time, fan only blows on low speed. Touching various radio/climate buttons brings all sots of strange markings onto the screen (mono). It does weird computer kinda strange things. Horn dead, seat dead. Numbers are back on the trip meter for range etc. There appears an "E" in the right top of icc. This will test you. Appreciate any ideas thanks
  10. just wondering if anyone knows if a car which has been increased in RWKW (and I think its a wonderful thing!) is required by state law to have an engineer's certificate? im in NSW but just wondering if anyone has any thoughts on this. congrats to everyone who contributes to this great forum.
  11. thanks, do u undo these block bolts from underneath the car? how long do u think it would take to do this job in a garage at home with no hoist? also regarding the harmonic balancer looseness..... just spoke again to my mate and he still thinks the balancer may be loose on the key.... can u give me any more info I could put to him that this rocking is normal? (he rocks the harmonic balancer using the belts and it moves (he believes its moving on the shaft) checking his bf non turbo lpg as a comparison, it doesnt move at all. any ideas to discuss with him? thanks
  12. sorry ive been offline.... thanks for these latest answers. I had my mate have a close look and apply some logical navel gazing to the problem last week. He said he believes it is the engine mount drivers side, so it is great to read nickxr6t thouht s....thanks nick. he also mentioned the heat possibly causing failure. thanks also adam-it seems to idle ok, and at higher revs no problem. still think there is movement in the harmonic balance....apparently this is not uncommon and may be worth other owners checking theirs coz leaving it can result in damage to the crankshaft keyway. thanks to all who replied.... I have a new mount...just need to find someone to instal it for a reasonable price.... in west sydney
  13. Thanks for all the replies.... It seems the answer is that the engine is internally balanced. Thanks again, .... now if I could just figure out this vibration problem.....
  14. Anyone kno if XR6T engine is internally or externally balanced?
  15. thanks for replying senna. im near penrith nsw. yeah I was disappointed about them only changing one mount, but he said I would need to go to ford to get it done... the ford quote to instal drivers side mount was expensive if it isnt the problem. another mechanic friend suggested that the harmonic balancer is loose on its shaft and key. when the engine is stopped, you can "rock" the belts and other pulleys back and forward and the harm balancer turns too. ...ie you can move the balancer which he is sure shouldnd happen if the key is intact and the balancer tightened properly. on his bf, the same test gives virtually no movement. he isnt fully convinced that this is the cause of vibration, but suggests a new key and correct tightening. He also wanted me to find out if anyone knows if these engines are "internally" or "externally" balanced? ANYONE KNOW? Thanks again for your help. its had every service since new and now has about 180oook's. its immaculate condition and I have had it about a year. havent had it tuned. I dont wanna fix things that arent broken so trying to anylise the fault first. FIXED THE ENGINE HIGH IDLE PROBLEM THANKS.... A VACUUM HOSE HAD BEEN LEFT OFF, BUT A CLUE I LEARNED WAS EVEN AFTER THAT WAS PUT BACK ON, THE CAR RAN AT ABOUT 1600 REVS WITHOUT FOOT ON THROTTLE WHEN DRIVING (need to slip into neutral to see this) THIS WAS RECTIFIED BY RESETTING THE COMPUTER... DISCONNECT BATTERY LEADS AND TOUCH THEM TOGETHER **THE LEADS-NOT THE BATTERY TERMINALS** COMPUTER RESET AND THAT HIGH REVING PROBLEM SOLVED...the mate who suggested that is a genius! Thanks. mechanic did the throttle body, but not the solenoid. Its smooth and runs great when above about 1700 rpm, but below the whole car shakes and vibrates like the exhaust is bolted directly to the body. Still not sure if it is a tuning problem (injectors was one persons opinion) but just feels more of a physical problem to me like mount or balancer thanks for helping to those who have replied.....
  16. If any of you can suggest what may cause this vibration, I would really appreciate your ideas. Hi all, I have an 03 xr6t auto which I bought from a mature one-owner about 12 months ago. The seller is a great bloke and even had the car serviced before I collected it. He said that the workshop told him it required new engine mounts and because there was insufficient time to instal them, he bought two and gave them to me with the car. There is a vibration at idle which is very noticeable under load (in drive or reverse). So I went to a mechanic to have the mounts installed. He did the passengers side but said he couldnt replace the drivers side one as it was too difficult to get to. Ive been told that it is normally the passengers side mount which fails but changing this didnt fix the problem. Another mechanic mate suggested that the harmonic balancer may be loose (on its key and crank), so I had that tightened with a power bar. No luck. The mechanic that tightened it suggested a throttle body clean, which he did on the car using injection cleaner on a compressor hose. No luck (other than an extra problem that the car now sticks on about 2800 rpm when driving and taking my foot off the throttle!) I will go back to ask about this. If any of you can suggest what may cause this vibration, I would really appreciate your ideas. Thanks heaps
