I had a mate jump in another mates STi rex on the track at Goulburn. He never drove the car in his life and was driving it a 10/10ths on his first lap, safe to say he ended up on the grass, crap all under the car. Same guy borrowed another mates GEN3 SS, this time on the street, first drive he ended up through someones fence. I wont let him drive it the T, noway. However, Our T's are very drivable, they make similar if not more power to the old big muscle cars with noise, bonnet scoops and very bad manners etc etc. But Drive them off boost and they are very well mannered. Your granny could drive it, sudden jerks of throttle wont send them sideways (turbo lag). My Mrs drives mine all the time, very sensibly. It definately comes down to who you let drive it..

Under Battery Pipe And Hot Side Pipes.... Fitted..
hulk xr6t replied to hulk xr6t's topic in Intercooler Workshop
Many of you guys must really have an eye for telling the difference.. I honestly cant tell. But has anyone proven the before and after on a dyno... Hey I have the pipes and id love it if they made such a difference. I have no reason to gripe, just being honest so assist others in making a decision to change the pipes. but at 14psi not noticing the difference.. -
Under Battery Pipe And Hot Side Pipes.... Fitted..
hulk xr6t replied to hulk xr6t's topic in Intercooler Workshop
I dont think the pipes hurt the car but maybe dont give a noticable benefit. Maybe I expect too much from them. Truth is, I would not be able to tell the difference before and after.. I think on less boost you would notice even less benefit as the stock pipes would probably flow enough for stock boost. I ask who has ever tested the before and after with a under battery pipe or hot side pipes? Anyone? -
Hi, Before... My car has 307rwkw, 14psi, PWR intercooler, full exhaust, injectors, pumps, valve springs, actuator. Also runs Plazmaman pipes (stage 1) which replace the standard setup... Car is frighteningly fast on boost but off boost a little laggy, throttle response is not a good as I would like. So I wanted to address the low down torque, help it spool up and increase throttle response. I bought and fitted under battery pipe and Hot side piping.... free up the intake abit. After... Both were pretty easy to fit and I do not doubt the quality of the workmanship of these pipes. But did it address what I was looking for....??? Very arguable... You can hear the car spool up a little more, probably because I replaced rubber hotside pipes with the metal pipes.. can really hear it spool up. Throttle reponse, not noticable, power, not noticable, lag, off the mark, it didnt make a difference, whilst cruising maybe a little quicker on boost or maybe can just hear it coming on boost??... Also the hot side pipes sit way to low as it comes off the bottom of the intercooler, cannot refit the plastic pice at bottom.. I chuck it on the dyno soon and post up if there is any benefit. Before and after graphs. If anyone has any before and after results please post.. Its not an expensive mod to do and im sure I didnt go backwards but not sure if it reasonably addressed any of the areas I looked to address. That is just my honest opinion.

Hi, This is as honest as I can be.. No BOV: Blocked up both boost side and intake side with the $3.35 Bunnings chair stops as well as blocking the vaccum hose. Took car for a drive. tututututututututututututututu, not overly loud but its like it doses forever. Im running 14psi, im telling you its like someone laughs a little too long at a joke when it deserves a chuckle, you sort or say ok, enough. Serious it drove me nuts. tutututututututututututututu, for three weeks long (so it seemed) I didnt notice any benefits nor loss of throttle response, power or lag from standard. so even if it MIGHT be detrimental to turbo longevity, I wouldnt do this mod.. Even under a little but of throttle tututututututututututututu Standard setup: with 14psi, just a little but of a tutututu, probably because the stock bov is not venting all the boost. Much quieter than no BOv setup and much shorter in duration. Cannot be heard on low throttle inputs. Just when giving it a little more of a spool, up top the engine sound was louder than the boost dump.. Again I didnt notice a difference in power, lag nor throttle responce compared with no BOV. Vented stock BOV: I added a monza filter from supercheap. Under any sort of throttle you can here a pshhhhhhhhhhhh!, under more throttle it sort of has a ppshhhhh and tututut and very very loud as the bov is positioned near front of car (I have plazmaman pipes). Again no difference noticable to lag, throttle response or power. So in conclusion, I say this mod is purely for noise only, I didnt notice any difference to spool up time, power of throttle response. Just really sound difference. Does anyone have any evidence that either of these mods effects throttle response, lag or power???

what is the hot side pipes gonna do?
-
My dad took it for a spin and drives like an old man (ie no boost) he says its nothing special.

Car mods as follows.. K&N Panel filter and Typhoon second intake Plazmaman piping kit, just replace standard tubes 3 inch stainless exhaust system, bigger cat. 3 inch dump pipe 60pound siemens injectors upgraded valve springs Bosch 044 fuel pump and standard intank pump 12psi actuator PWR Intercooler Custom tuned, boost flat at 14psi 4 speed auto, trans cooler and 2800rpm converter... 307rwkw Like I said its very smart on boost and feels like a stock six (or maybe worse) off boost. No complaints when it comes on boost though.....

Hi, I have XR6T with 300+rwkw and 4speed auto with 2800rpm stall converter. When the car is on boost its awesome... But from a set of lights, without any stalling of the converter and just a flat shove of the throttle its pretty average off the line until it hits boost and then the tyres are frying (about 2 seconds of lag) Also when cruising, and you put the foot to the floor it has about a two second delay before all the boost floods the engine and it screams away. It still pulls off boost but nowhere near the ferocity of the boost. What can be done to counter the off boost laggy performance? I thought diff gears maybe go to a 3.73 or 4.11 but others have said this will reduce load on the turbo when its on boost and the turbo wont spool up as hard. As a result I may actually lose overall performance by fiddling with diff gears??? Any ideas or is this lag characteristic just part of owning a XR6T??

Unfortunately, I beleive there is too much power coming out of these cars, gotta be a pain in the ass for the drivetrain and long term reliability. I say valve springs, injectors, cat upgrade and centre muffler, phoon cooler and edit, 10-12psi. dont do anymore. Maybe get near 300rwkw. I wouldnt go over if its a daily driver. or else you will pay up big time. $$$ Gearbox and diff giving up the ghost as well as excessive wear on motor. not just once, many a time over.. $$$$$ Ive seen the error in my ways, scared to give it a bootful as Im thinking its gonna cost ya some more. Do you want a drag car or a powerful reliable cruiser. Put a lid on the power you aiming for and balance it with your intended use of the vehicle.

Do they get special donut holders? (joke)
-
I thought so. We all cant resist having our premium performance available. Not using it would be like packing up the Playstation 3 put it in the waldrobe and use the Atari 2600. I was thinking about using a lower spec tune to preserve my driveline but then a 6.0L will roll up and ill be there for a few minutes unloading the tune so I can spank him. Even still, might catch him.
-
Hi, I have 300+rwkw in my XR6T like people in the 300+ club. What tune do you run everyday? Do you want the whole hog on tap all the time or do we run lower boost tunes to preserve our drivetrain?? I have been running 14psi and 300+rwkw everyday....

Do 20 Inch Wheels Increase/decrease Performance?
hulk xr6t posted a topic in Suspension and Handling
Hi, Do 20 inch wheels increase/decrease performance on our XR6T's? Maybe the rolling diameter decrease the torque multiplication just like longer gearing and the weight lower our kw/tonn but Does a longer rolling diameter also put more load on the turbo, increasing its output? Overall whats better. I note noone changes the 3.45 gears in the XR6Ts for shorter gears. -
People are still changing these valve springs as well. I think they are better but still not as good as the after market valve springs.

Noisy Fuel Pump.... Bosch 044
hulk xr6t replied to hulk xr6t's topic in Fuel System & Induction Workshop
The car is running 307rwkw. apparently the stock pump is good enough to supply that so why wouldnt it be able to supply the 044 at idle? The installer said if anything the 044 and fuel pump in the tank and helping one another. the 044 should be able to run alone and suck from the tank, but its being assisted. Likewise with the 044, sucking and helping the in tank pump push it out. -
Noisy Fuel Pump.... Bosch 044
hulk xr6t replied to hulk xr6t's topic in Fuel System & Induction Workshop
Hmmm, Hope not.. I had a professional install it. One of our sponsors so im pretty confident they would install it correctly... At first it didnt make this noise, this is just recently.. -
Noisy Fuel Pump.... Bosch 044
hulk xr6t replied to hulk xr6t's topic in Fuel System & Induction Workshop
You would think it was sending out a morse code SOS signal this fuel pump. da da da dada da da. Would a surge tank shut it up? -
Hi, I have XR6T 300+ rwkw. Car has factory in tank fuel pump and a Bosch 044 fuel pump running in series. I do not have a surge tank. The Bosch 044 buzzes away which isnt the problem. (ive learnt to live with it) But just recently its started running with a buzz and a stuttering sound. So im hearing a buzz and a da da da dadadada da......buzz.......da....da....da.dada. Does this mean the pump isnt getting a good supply of fuel? is it working too hard? Is this normal and ok or is there a problem. On the road the car goes fine. Only does it at idle. Has the odd miss here and there but on the road its sweet??? only at idle Any ideas??

where did you get that intake thing? Nice car

Has anyone read the new XR6T specs. 270kw, 531nm, 10psi boost, 30% quicker spooling up of turbo, less lag... The typhoon did 270kw, 550nm, 9psi (probably underrated) Can anyone smell a smaller turbo here, more boost to get the same kw, less lag, quicker to spool up, less maximum torque?? Does this mean it will be a little harder to extract the bigger outputs (300+rwkw) from these new series XR6T's??

I prefer the BA front bar by far. The BA looks free flowing. THE BF looks like a BF XT front bumper. The BF front bar has all that plastic grooves in it, looks like a block of legos. Its like a wannabe Typhoon bar without the colour inserts, but it ends up looking like a XT. the lego look is extended onto the BF wheels

Love those cars. Just get a custom tune and phoon intake and you will fry most cars on the road. Mine has 307rwkw but to be honest, I never use it. If you load the foot into it, your BIG SMILE very quickly turns to worry as your not sure if you have just torn the gearbox in half or reef the diff right out of the rear. I reckon 250-260rwkw is more than enough bacon. custom tune, injectors and valve springs and your there. maybe a aftermarket cooler. Apparently the autos arnt much good after about 270rwkw.

Seriously, my XR6 Turbo is costing me heaps of money. It has 307rwkw and I never drive it but it still costs me money... heres why.. I have a 97 Ford 5.0 V8 that I drive everyday to work and park at the gym. (I wanna keep my Xr looking mint). But the XR makes the Ford Windsor EFI V8 seem like a slug. Im thinking there is something wrong with the V8. So I put extractors on it, diff gears, intake. It now feels a little better with probably around 130-140rwkw. But then I step into my XR Turbo and think Geezus, this is quick. 307rwkw vs 130rwkw. Then jump back in the 5.0 and feel like theres something wrong with it again lacking power... At least it make me stop upgrading the XR every 5 minutes. We Xr drivers do throw it around a little, I have 307rwkw (500+ hp motor) and Im probably on the low end compared to some other members here. lol

Diablo is nice, black. Only time I been in it was when his dad asked us to bring a DVD back, handed my mate the keys. I had just come from the gym so I looked like a hobbo. Farout, the looks you get is unbeleivable. Nothing compares. Other than that, sounded like a truck. Any feel good moments when demonstrating our beloved XR's (or any disappointing moments)
