  1. The question I have is are they easy beats? Can a Theif take them without the keys? Obviously we cannot stop them if they get the keys but other than towing them away can they be driven away??? So If you go and park your T at Mt Druit station all day (besides the vandalisation) what do you rate the thiefs chances of driving it away?
  2. Hi, Do XR6T's go missing anymore than any other cars? Are they a hot target or not really.. I dont park mine much but I am thinking o fselling it to a close mate and he will park it all over the place and he is scared it will go missing.. If they dont have the keys are they pretty hard to steal? Also would they be any more of a target than other fords or holdens??
  3. If its a mk2, Maybe the dealer did the old "switcheroo" on the wheels and put some 18s on instead. Or could be the wheels had gutter rash and he replaced the wheels but with the 18 inch mk1 version as they are cheaper... check to make sure those 18s are genuine FPV wheels, maybe the previous owner didnt want to part with the 19s and put on some aftermarket lookalikes... Whatever the case, I think your wheels look sweet, keep the originals on it as its a typhoon and has plenty of street cred. If you change the wheels people might confuse it with a regular XR6T and try and have a crack at you (at their demise)
  4. I have 20's X 8.5s on mine, feet perfect no scrubbing but I dont have the brembos so not sure if that causes any issues
  5. What size tyre did you go.... Apparently they scrub if you go too much on the tyre. I have 20's on my XR6T. I went the Prowlers (black with machined 5 spoke face) on a Citric acid car... Ill post up a pic when I take one next weekend... (I have posted a photoshop pic before I got the wheels) People say they make the car slower but I dont think so... The extra load on the turbo makes up for any increased rolling diameter. I think 19s or 18s are better for handling but on the street you cant do anything anyway so might as well look good doing nothing...
  6. If someone crashes into the back of my car and attempts a hi-jack manouvre, I get out of the car with a flamethrower so even if it is a innocent love tap or a hi-jack manourvre I say jump out all guns blazing..
  7. Geez. that's aweful. I think its worse that we have thieves game enough to come in and take our keys and wallet. Cars can be replaced but the potential for someone to be seriously hurt here is very very high Gotta beef up the security... Do it my way... security grills on all windows, big tough doors, back to base Alarm on every night protecting the garage and house everywhere except where you sleep, car has sophisitcated alarm and immobiliser on it. The rottweiler makes a heap of noise, Keys less than a metre from where I sleep, my neighbours are ready to pounce if they hear something. If the thief is good enough to get in, he had better be good enough to get out, they will seriously piss me off for waking me up and they will meet my 20 inch biceps swinging a crowbar at them. It will be a bloodbath and my security will ensure there is no way out for them....
  8. I went from a VT2 LS1 with 280rwkw to the XR6T. At first (the T was stock) and I had significantly gone backwards in performance ut the car was cool and a nice basis to start. Now the T would pull the pants down on my old car.. 300+rwkw plus torque all over the place.. GEN3 is also a good motor, sounds tough, very good on fuel when considering their performance. I have plenty of respect for the Expensive Daewoo team, just like my t better.
  9. Some people who posted above think its like an underbelly, underground operation... If it were to get some momentum then someone could set it up properly... Maybe in the interim, publish a gallery of those participants and agree on a general price, let work of mouth do some talking and before you know it some money rolls in... I say $500 per T based upon 100km or less and 6 hours or less. The person picks which T's participate..
  10. I appreciate the responses... What about people who set up their businesses, machinery etc. They never see any sales day 1, of course you can claim your capital costs now.. Whats the difference if one of us asked a favour and organised for a few Ts to turn up somewhere and be used for a wedding as a favour... Do you need a hire car permit??? For 1 wedding... Most T's would probably only get a handful of jobs every year, the more popular T's may be a little more busy but even a few thousand in your hand every year would be nice... Someone would have to take the punt to market it, but there would be no cost for the T's as we all could ask for a pyament from this person as the car is needed.... So its primary purpose is not weddings or hire but private use... Lucky if you would do 500km per year hire purposes vs 20000km normally commuting... Cash is king... If money was exchanged who would know... The price would be attractive enough to be able to ask for cash... Credit cards, they can get a cash advance... The point Im trying to make is that as a T driver, wouldnt you like to simply get a call from (the organiser) and say need your T for 6 hours here. Can you do it. Yep, clean it up, heres $500 thankyou very much... Drive home...
  11. There is of course a few hurdles to get through, but wouldnt you drive you T for a few km to pick up someone, drop them off and have a real good excuse to clean it every week. Not to mention the $500-$1000 in your pocket.. Also if the tax man wants to talk about it, ill buy 22 inch rims, spend $15k on the motor and claim them as a tax deduction as its a capital improvement for my money maker XR6T... Actually its not a bad idea as you could do up you T, claim all the costs to do it up and then dont take on any jobs and say there is no work out there so no income, so the tax man will owe you...
  12. Maybe someone can buya few sets of the same wheel to use for unifomity, they could also charge out for their wheels to be used... I say every model and every capital city is covered... All the T drivers can put something back in their pockets, this will also fuel us to make out T's look a little more bling, and if the club has some sort of exclusivity then maybe even help in our resale values as the cars/model becomes more desirable...
  13. Hi, What if we all agreed to hire out our T's for a set price.. Put together a gallery of our T's and FPV's and location (capital city) and then offer them out for weddings formals... etc etc. Let the person choose which T's they want in their ensemble of hire cars and we can all agree on a set price.. Just try make them available on the weekends, drive them yourself or ask a mate to drive it if your too busy. Of course all the T's listed must be in immaculate order.. Whichever T they like we use, go for a cruise and get paid... What are the advantages and pitfalls for such an idea... Do some marketing.... maybe all contribute a couple of bucks and let the customer choose the T's they want... The going rate for a wedding car these days is not cheap. If we pooled our resources, we would just about have every colour and model covered many times over...
  14. I have a magazine (MOTOR) where it was quoted that on CV's dyno a stock XR6T (240fwkw) did 182rwkw.
  15. I would say 315 fwkw. I dont think the percentage argument stacks up. I think you lose X amount of kw through your drivetrain regardless of your power output. Years ago they always said 30%-35% drivetrain loss but that is on stock power. Now all of a sudden its about 21%. But note this.... 165kw Expensive Daewoo V8 made 108rwkw stock so 35% drivetrain loss (lost 57kw) 245kw XR6T made 190rwkw so 21% drivetrain loss (lost 55kw) BOSS 290 mades 230rwkw (lost 60kw) Expensive Daewoo 307 makes 245rwkw (lost 62kw) Three cars lost around 55-65kw. Im sure its no exact science but I say it would be a number regardless of your power rather than a percentage which would diminish as power rises. My number comes from adding 65kw to your rwkw.
  16. Hi, My car is like that, on 25% throttle in 1st second or third gear it comes on boost nicely, you can feel her wind up and power comes in, but at wide open throttle it just goes from nothing to full power. so jerky. It feels like its going from nothing to full boost on the flick of a switch... any ideas??
  17. Hi, If anyone in western Sydney could do this for me, I would pay you.... PM me if your interested. State your price too..
  18. QUOTE(redragon @ Jan 9 2008, 06:18 PM) I want mine to go 'bahmMmMbahmMmM ShHhH'. When it changes gear why dont you just open the window and scream out as loud as you can "'bahmMmMbahmMmM ShHhH". Then you can leave you stock Bov in plumbed back to save your turbo and you can manually just scream it out the window. Can you imagine the looks you will get if you manually scream it out the window?? If the cops pull you over claiming to have heard a vented Bov, they will look like gooses when its plumbed back..
  19. Are transmission oil coolers and engine oil coolers the same? So can I use a transmission cooler I have in the garage as a engine oil cooler for my XR6T. So Ill grab the typhoon oil filter adaptor and plug up my transmission cooler to this. Mount it somewhere under the hood..
  20. Im not trying to be a pain but... If you read many of the topics, some are pro BOV some are Anti-BOV. Its hard to get a straight answer. Your reference says the turbo stalls resulting from the flutter. Other threads say the pressure of the air causing the flutter is sweet F all and wont in any way damage the turbo. If it slows it down, its still negligible.. Why didnt VL turbos run BOV? Are all those turbos ruined or are they still boosting up some 20 years later...
  21. So how do you know its .0000001 of a second less boost? You dont work for Turbosmart do you? They are always trying to say its a "performance" mod... Ill translate your argument to read... The difference does exist but according to your tests its negligible.
  22. The question says im not concerned about sound, that is personal preference. But there must be some difference in the three scenarios regarding, spooling, throttle response and lag... there must be.. Please dont take the easy way out, offer a logical answer.. Im talking stock bov, auto, 14psi... NO BOV: They must slow up the turbo more than having a BOV. There being more flutter confirms this. But wouldnt this only be true under a complete relaxing of throttle. But if you maintain throttle on gear change (reasonably quick change) with no bov, surely the exhaust gases at 3000rpm+ would still offer positive boost and negate any flutter. you have the bonus of a pressurised inlet charge already and keeping the pressure... there would be less performance lag on continuous open throttle? Arguable more lag on relaxed throttle and then re-applying throttle ie more re-spooling... Also is the flutter enough to cause damage to our big bad turbos?? PLUMB BACK: The plumb back throwing air before the turbo, does it disrupt natural airflow of the intake? or offer cooler (after intercooler air) aiding spool up and cooling air temperatures for more power... Is this offset by ther drop in pressure between turbo and inlet having to repressurise after the dump on continuous and relaxed throttle applications. Also do stock Bov's good enough to hold all boost ? at 14psi? VENTED BOV: With a quick change and continous throttle, does the inlet pressure drop, the exhaust gasses would keep the turbo spooling as they are at 3000rpm+. The inlet charge of air is arguable warmer than that of the plumb back boost dump as its now vented to atmo (the cooler after intercooler air is lost). The stock Bov does not vent enough air, hence the flutter that continues (although less than no bov)
  23. Hi, There are millions of topics on this but no straight answers... Regarding stock BOV being Atmo Vented VS Plumb back VS No BOV, Other than obvious sound characteristics what is the effect on performance... 1. Which setup is the best for throttle response and why? 2. Which is the best for turbo spool up and why? 3. Which setup results in least lag and why? 4. Will No BOV damage the turbo I have read so many topics and most of them contradict one another, they never give a straight definitive answer.
  24. Hi, My XR6T, If I start it up in the garage, let it warm up for 10 minutes and then take it out for a drive... The car just goes like a rocket, spools up so quickly, its an auto and has almost immediate boost off takeoff. Just a rocket ship. comes on boost super hard and super early too... Then after driving it for a while, the car still goes as hard but spools up a little slower, off the mark acceleration isnt as good until boost comes on... Im thinking... When I first drive it the car is fully warmed up so is it the heat soak that brings the car down to earth again? Or does the transmission heat up a little? Does the intercooler get a little hot and doesnt cool as well as it does starting it from cold. Maybe the oil heats up as well. Do all the pipes etc heat up and the heat causes a loss of response? Does anyone have any definitive theory? what can be addressed to recoup all the crazy performance from startup...
  25. that rear wheel kw is a bit low for a stocker with the hot side pipes. should be upwards of 180rwkw. So your saying you lost boost with the pipes? The standard turbo is a big one and I dont think the pipes will make it lose pressure...
