I think the XR6T is the better buy... apples for apples a used XR6T is cheaper than a similar year WRX.. When they were brand new the XR6T was actually much more expensive. So you might save on fuel but you wont get a 2004 WRX for the same price you can pick up a 2004 XR6T... So factory that into any fuel savings.. You actually buying an older WRX for the same price.. Also when they do get a bit on and need a few parts here and there... there are Plenty BA N/A XR6's where parts will fit and are completely interchangable.. The WRX will share its parts with nothing else so expect to pay more..

Hey, This is no way an attack on the shops that modify XR6T's.. In my case they did a very very good job. I agree that if you get use out of the mods then its not money really lost as you have a more exciting car. In my case, Ive modded the car, never ever run it, hardly ever drive it, just sits there lookin pretty.. So my enjoyment is limited. Ive done maybe 2000km since modifying it.. Im just abit sour that people wont even pay $1 more for the mods, zippo. The car also appeals only to true XR6T enthusiasts... a much smaller market... Of the calls I get, they say "I can get a BF2 XR6 Turbo for $XXX amount". The coppers have flooded the market with thrashed BF2 XR6 Turbos with about 40,000km and no factory options.. Its kills the resale of our cars.. Even if I dont sell this beast... Im not exactly losing... 300+rwkw is not a bad consolation prize.. oh well Ill tell the Mrs... I just have to drive this... haha.. If a XR6 Turbo is worth around $22-25k today (a good one) what do you think it will be worth in say 2 years?

Patience is not the problem.. there are just so many T's available for sale at the moment. I was going to buy a FG XR6T but they insulted me with a ridiculous trade in offer... I told the salesman, are you trying to sell me a FG turbo or not... So if I buy this Fg XR6T and return in a few years for an upgrade...Your telling me now (with my trade in offer) Im effectively going to lose $XXX amount.... I wont be buying a FG.. ha

Hi, This is probably a difficult topic to discuss as we all love our T's. Its almost criminal not to extract the power potential of these cars... Totally transforms them into monsters BUT.. When I bought the car, everyman and his dog gave advice on how to modify them, every workshop had their own package of mods. Plenty of money went into my XR6T (as you would all know and appreciate).. Now I have a 300+rwkw car.. Car is beautiful and is an absolute jet... Im happy with the work done on the car and how it performs. Plenty of backslapping all round.. But Ive decided that I need to move on a little and have put the XR6T for sale.. Ive honestly spent about $10k to modify it and I would hope to get a little more than a regular T of similar age and condition. The market unfortunately frowns on modifications, you are really looking for that 1/1000 guy or gal who appreciates the mods, regular buyers simply compare price and that's that. Some regular buyers will pay less for a modified T than they would a standard T. Its a little lonely trying to sell a modified T, noone really wants to know you... If someone said, hey one day when you sell it, all this money is going straight down the toilet and maybe your even devaluing the car.. Would you still do it?? Now Im a realist, Im not expecting to get every dollar back but maybe an extra $3k if I spent $10k isnt completely unreasonable. I cant exactly strip the car down and sell it as standard. (how can I take off valve springs, stall converters, injectors (without retuning), lowering boost, etc etc...) So reality sets in, I will most probably have to take a kick in the nuts for all the mods done to the car... Question is...whether ill modify my next car.... thoughts????

I might load one of the softer tunes in it... But if you at the lights with say a FG XR6T, Ill be grasping for my capa box in the back seat trying to load up the higher performance tune.... by the time it loads up the Fg is gone...

Im talking about commuting to and from work, normal driving cruising, regular servicing and the occassional flat stick acceleration.. As you would drive any car... Is just cruising about in these high power XR's contruting to more than normal wear?

Hi, I have a BA XR6T 4spd auto with 320rwkw... 45,000km on it I dont use it much but might sell the everyday driver and drive this car everyday... Is 320rwkw too much power to drive everyday without blowing something to smithereens.. It has a custom tune done, all the good bits. Is it risky putting too many km on it as something may break? or is this a safe power output for everyday driving.. Do you think it will hold out for a good 100,000km?

Hi, I went into ford over the weekend and test drove two cars.. FG BOSS 290 XR8 6 speed manual AND FG XR6T 6 speed auto.. I drove the XR8 first... Impressed by its burble when starting up, you can really feel that there is a big motor under the hood. Sitting in traffic the car feels like a weapon, big motor, big bulge on the hood... I turned onto the express way and opened it up, with just a little wheelspin chatter, its pretty quick to get to the cutout, (the chime goes off). Feels very very much like a GEN3 with a 6 speed manual.. Even sounds similar. The Sound on the car wasnt as good as I would have imagined... I swear ive heard BOSS 290's sound a bit tougher than that.. I wouldnt buy the car because I believe it felt no quicker than a GEN3 V8 I owned years ago.. Its powerful, but I dont think its gotten any better over the SS's or XR8s driven in the past few years. The interior is definately better than my BA. Similar but better. I dont know if I would ever hand over the $52k for the XR8.. If I grab a used BF2 for half the price it would probably feel very very similar.. Now jumped into the XR6T When I started it, it sounded pretty weired, felt like this car isnt gonna go like the big boofy feeling XR8.. I felt like I stepped into a cheaper less powerful and smaller car.. The way the 6 feels is intially (when rolling in the carpark or in traffic) inferior to the XR8.. The salesman says, be careful with it, it goes like a scorned cat.. I was like yeah yeah, I know ive got one.. The car felt like it spooled up much quicker than my BA XR6T (4pd auto). In traffic I didnt feel like it had the same presence as the XR8.. When I stepped onto the freeway, I flattened it from very low down..You can hear it spool up a bit and between gears it made a popping sound from the exhaust.. Very very fast.. The sound of the car was a bit weird, like a Audi A3 turbo with Auto.. Both have that popping sound on gear changes in the exhaust.. My 320+rwkw XR6T would be quicker when on full boost but just cruising around, the new XR6T felt better down low... I rolled up to a set of lights and booted it with no spooling so see how it comes on... A laggy slowish takeoff (but better than BA) and then when the boost come on so did the traction control... It just cut out and started over again.. I tried it many times and every time the traction control cut in.. Bloody quick in a straight line with proper tyres I say.. For a standard car you would expect it to hookup if just booting it in a straight line not break traction.. Imagine in the wet.. On one occassion, I booted it from standstill and sort of changed lanes as I was flat, when the boost cut in, the car flicked sideways... In a stock car... This car would flog the XR8 that I drove.. We all know the potential of a well modified XR6T but these cars stock have some real nuts.. Even the Salesman agreed, how we gonna sell a XR8 or even GT with the XR6T or the G6ET sitting here.

Firstly... I wanted to tear that magazine up... How slow is that FG XR6T... Drive them on gravelly surfaces... Just ridiculous... Next the front cover says W427, we thrash the crap out of it (or word to that effect).. Inside they say ohh ohh it was raining and we didnt want to lose control of it so we drove it easy... Just robbery... Next magazine im gonna read the article in the newsagent... If I dont like it, ill grab a cigarette lighter and burn it in the shop.. I hate articles like that. they always qualify the performance... it was raining, it was gravelly... So in a whole month they cant find anywhere not gravelly or raining...
-
Well, dont the FG F6 pretty much run a flat 13 second time at the strip? The magazines say 13.4 but im sure there is a bit more in them... What would a BF2 XR6T with a custom 10psi tune run?? low 13s??
-
Everyone loves the FG F6... But we dont all wanna hand over $70k for one... If we grab a BF2 with 6speed auto and give it a custom tune with say 10psi, no other mods would it match a FG F6 for less than half price..?? In a straight line and around a track?? Im willing to let it have 45,000km... Get an immaculate example... Leave $30k in the bank.. Im not saying its a better car but for less than half price would you have a near new BF2 XR6T that would match or beat a FG F6 in a straight line?? Only interested in a custom tune.. How would this car stack up??
-
Its all good... Im not sookin about 250rwkw LS1's Its the LS1 boys saying the 250rwkw LS1's have the same ET as a 300rwkw XR6T... I wouldnt know... I have had a 280rwkw LS1 and a 320rwkw XR6T, never run either of them... Cant tell by seat of the pants test which one would come up trumps... Ive never had them flat from standstill for 400 metres...
-
Im not saying they dont keep up... Im talking about the Pushback factor... The STI/EVo can be a much slower car but inside they feel quicker because they are small etc... I used to have a Late model camira SS years ago... I used to run away from WRX but inside you could be sipping a cup of tea whilst driving it flat out... Just didnt feel fast... In a WRX it would throw you around the car if you drove it flat out... If you lined the two up, my SS would win..
-
Was yours the supercharged V6? that beat the N/A XR6... On the street though would the XR6T beat a 250rwkw SS? My XR6T is hard to launch... Too much spooling and its wheelspin city, not enough and the are pretty average off the line...
-
I agree with you about the S/C Calais VS. Lethal traffic lights warrior... On the LS1 forum they swear black n blue that a SV6 will absolutely kill the Calais Supercharged V6 VS.. Someone started a thread how they got short changed when Expensive Daewoo dumped the supercharged V6 for the SV6 motor... Its like they started a war..
-
There are some timeslips and rwkw on the LS1 forum... there are a few 250rwkw cars (or thereabouts) running mid to low 12s... that would shake up a 300rwkw XR6T... I own a XR6T but if its true ill face the facts... My opinion... On the street... the LS1 with manual gearbox would be hard to beat... On the strip with proper tyres, the XR6T would win... On the street almost impossible to get them (XR6T) flying off the line... Wheel spin galore or nothing..
-
I went for a burn in a supercharged VE SS... It made 340rwkw.. it was an automatic.... I think a 300rwkw+ XR6T would have this car covered..impressive but still a very linear power delivery. The XR6T feels more lethal when it got its full boost run... Even the guy who tuned the VE said it would be good for a low to mid 12.. (The blown VE)
-
No I didnt start that thread nor did I even read it...

Hi, When I had 280rwkw in my XR6T (when it was soft) I ran a VX SS.. It was an Auto with diff gears and at least an exhaust... I would imagine an edit as well.... I didnt spool up off the mark just flattened it... It was about level off the line and when it hit boost, it was like I just rocketed away... about 1.5 car length lead... You could here the LS1 revving off its head... Next set of lights we took it easy off the line... He just cruised went it revved quick and chirped into second so definately diff gears and some auto box mod (maybe edit)... It was a 1.5 length win to the XR6T only to about 110km/h... legal speed...
-
I have driven one of those supercharged V6s... (im presuming the VS Supercharged is the calais V6 Supercharged... They are a bolt of lightening off the mark, they are like a greyhound tking off... I reckon they would keep most cars honest to about 100km/h... That is a stock car... One with a few mods... boost etc would really move... I reckon it would keep the Clubby very honest.... (to 100km/h)
-
I had a LS1 and over time modded it upto a peak of 280rwkw.. At 280rwkw it felt light years ahead of when it had 230rwkw.... I reckon my T when it had 280rwkw was a good run with the LS1 when it was also 280rwkw... I think the stronger mid range of the T compensates for the weight... The Ls1 is pretty easy to get fired away off the blocks... I think a 300rwkw T once on boost its bye bye LS1... The quarter mile registr on LS1 has some LS1's with around 250rwkw running low 12s so its gonna be close... Maybe a VT wih 250rwkw not a porky fat ass VE with 250rwkw..
-
Those on the other side (LS1.com) say that a 250rwkw SS with LS1 or LS2 will match a 300rwkw XR6T for mph down the quarter mile... they reckon the big Ford are just too slow out of the blocks and are too heavy... I find that Hard to beleive... I had a 280rwkw LS1 and my 300+rwkw XR6T feels faster... (except off the mark)...

Here are my comments on "Pushback" Standard T, very linear power delivery, just like a NA XR6 but keeps building power until redline. Standard F6 Typhoon... a little bit of pushback (5 speed manual), not as much pushback as a Sti XR6T with generic tune 8psi-10psi, a little bit of pushback.... Still nothing like a Boosted Rex or EVO XR6T with 12-15psi.... Has some serious shove in the back... big difference when on and off boost... Feels very fast, really moving... Longer gears than Rex so feels like your gonna follow through with your punch... STi with more boost... serious shove in the back but gears are gone too quickly...

My Stock Bf Mkii Xr6t Stock Run 13.6@167kph
hulk xr6t replied to Doogstar's topic in Members Cars and Modifications
Slap her up on the dyno... that is a very quick time for a stocker... did you buy the car new? maybe someone slipped in the generic tune before you picked her up... A dyno will confirm the stock output... 185-190ish rwkw.. -
One Of The Last Bf Mkii Turbos
hulk xr6t replied to Rudiger's topic in Members Cars and Modifications
I wouldnt be surprised if the Police tickle with the ECU... How do you explain turning the dynos with a little extra power (the ex coppers).. Many years ago, I had a ex police car commodore.. I wanted a memcal upgrade and advised the tuner of the current code. they said it was a Police chip... they said it had different setting than standard but they also said the different settings would not equate to more power??? what would they equate to then?
