  1. I have a bf xr6t with 330rwkw. It had a growler intake on it but I've swapped it back to my standard air box with 2nd typhoon lower snorkel. Doesn't seem to make any difference? Is the f6 intake from the bf as good as the grower system? Is one intake better than the other??
  2. so what do we think? Bil the tuned BF2 XR6t take out the F6?
  3. Hi, A good friend of mine had his car stolen from Summernats. The car usally resides in Western Sydney but could be on its way anywhere in the country, So keep your eyes out and please pass on the warning. He has spent considerable cash on this car not to mention hundreds/thousands of hours personally building this unique car. This was its maiden voyage to summernats and was stolen last night/early this morning between 3am - 6am from outside his hotel. It was roaming around summernats on Friday, seen and enjoyed by all. Car description is as follows. Isuzu 4wd fitted with a Expensive Daewoo LS1 and associated drivetrain (Expensive Daewoo GEN3 5.7litre V8) fully engineered. 24 inch rims Freshly painted black New interior I dont have an actual photo but this link loosly resembles how this model looks like, note it has 24 inch rims and a thumping loud 5.7 litre V8. Image - TinyPic - Free Image Hosting, Photo Sharing & Video Hosting If you were at the Summernats, did you see it? do you know of its whereabouts? Do you know where the parts may be? We feel it was stolen using a tow truck/tilt tray as its very noisy to try and start it. Please contact the Canberra Police if a vehicle or parts matching my description turn up in your area. Otherwise PM me, there is a considerable reward for its recovery. Please take a minute to relay this message to your contacts.
  4. I wouldnt touch one with over 120,000km on it. By the time your fix things (and you will) it will cost the same if not more than a low km version. Do you really want to spend your hard earned cash on a car on its last legs? Its better to save up more and get a proper one.
  5. I test drove a FG XR8 6spd and a FG XR6T 6spd auto back to back.. I drove in to the ford dealer with my BA XR6T when I owned it. At the time it was pumping 322rwkw. So I had a decent benchmark. First in the XR8. It felt like it had heaps of muscle down low. As a Big V8 should.. I really opened it up on the M4 and took it into a few backstreets. (I was by myself).. It sounded like a LS2 to be honest. Ive heard them sound better than that. But I was impressed and it showed some good power. It was more than enough and I was impressed. I then jumped into the FG XR6T and thought it would have to be pretty good to beat that. I was just rolling around the dealer carpark to get out on the road and it definately felt like the V8 was missing, the sound the low down growl was not there. It didnt have that immediate torque hit of the V8 just rolling around. I thought ew, this isnt going to be that good. Then when I got out on the highway and opened it up, GEEEEEEEEZZZZZZ... It made the XR8 feel slow as.. From a standing start without loading up boost, it spooled up much harder and faster than my BA XR6T (322rwkw). Almost no lag and it broke traction in the dry no problems. It was skating around a fair bit, all I was doing was booting it from stand still. I was thinking that's ridiculous not to tame that power in a stock car. Below about 4000rpm it would cream the BA/BF XR6T but above that I thought my modded car would have it for power. For a stock car it was a ripper and the power felt far more usable on the street than the BA/BF XR6T.
  6. The problem with waiting is the km generally get up as well.. I want one with under 50,000km on it. Should have grabbed that one last year for $22,500, an 07 BF2 with 55,000km.. what was I thinking!!
  7. Im prowling around for a Good XR6T BF2 with 6 speed Auto and leather.. But they are all Ex Coppers. Or people who want ridiculous prices for them.. I could have nabbed an 07 model BF2 with Auto a year ago with 50,000km for $22500.. He was mucking me about for about 2 weeks so I bought another car and then a day later he rings me and says come get it. Now on Carsales etc, they want more than that for higher km cars.. Are people dreaming? I want a BF2 as I want the better valve springs, rods and tougher box so when the mods come (and they will) I can get away with less. There are none around with leather too. I think the Leather interior is a must, or else you will always say, I wish I had leather in it. I would grab a F6 Typhoon but the insurance is ridiculous, the BF2 is basically (it is) the same motor.

    Fg Turbo

Id be stunned if the G6ET didnt have LSD.. The 97 Fairmont Ghia had LSD but the 2009 version no LSD? There is no way it would have any traction at all once boost comes on without a LSD
  9. I dont agree. V8s are more luxurious, more refined, offer seamless power and low down torque.. Turbo 6 is obviously quicker but its far from a great driving experience unless your only interested in erratic performance.. Turbo Lag and then neck snapping acceleration. FG XR6T just breaks into a flurry of wheelspin as it comes on boost. Hardly a luxurious experience. V8 offers a more refined luxurious experience with reasonable acceleration..
  10. So if you are very conservative driver, why would you need a car that gets to the legal speed limit of 110km/h in about 7 seconds when a standard falcon will do it in 9 seconds?? Anyone who says they wont drive differently if they get a Turbo car is kidding themselves.. That Vic roads thing doesnt seem correct, how many cars are over 3.5L per tonn? That means p-Platers can drive just about every turbo car..
  11. I heard a bang on my fence one night about 2am.. I looked outside to see nothing.. In the morning I went outside and a car parked outside my house had a broken rear window... A round entry point.. I found a golf ball on my front lawn. It was my neighbours car but parked outside my house. I would seriously give them the flogging of their life if I caught them, I dont care how old they are.
  12. So if you cant prove it, then km are km be it highway or town. A Water pump doesnt know if they are highway km or town km.. If anything highway km would make a water pump wear out quicker. that's only a water pump but other items as well.. So all the imported skylines and evos etc with 40,000-50,000km are really equivalent to our cars running 100,000km as they are doing mostly bumper to bumber work in traffic back in japan?
  13. How can you prove highway km? One must assume km are km that come with general wear and tear.. As everyone with high km says highway km. Not to say your isnt genuine but as a buyer, I just would scrap that claim immediately. Pay it no regard.
  14. Whats highway km? km are km? The market has come in for these cars.. I could have bought a 07 BF2 XR6T with 6speed auto in orange. It was ex copper with 52,000km (half your km) from a ford dealer and they were chucking the keys at me for $22500... This was a few months back in 08 as well, so that car would be even less.. So considering km, I reckon if someone gives you $20k, Id dance on tables for them.
  15. I used to have a Late model camira SS with 280rwkw, 3.9 gears and a 6speed manual.. (Cam, valve springs, exhaust, intake manifold) It would go with the HSV 427... All up cost me $26k.. Had serious grunt and awesome sound.. Good for $26k...... add red seats, a funny kit for another $140k?????? errr no thanks
  16. Everyone knows that with a few easy mods, a XR6T especially from BF2 onwards will make an easy 300rwkw and run low to mid 12s... What about other cars? what other cars are responsive to a few easy mods?? WRX, 200sx?, Golf GTi?, Nissam Skyline? LS1 or LS2?
  17. I think engine oil cooler is a must.. FPV Typhoon sticks one on there and they are only running a farts worth more boost than standard XR6T.. The turbo with more boost would absolutely fry the oil and kill its lubricating properties.. Ive asked a few tuners about the engine oil cooler and all of them said, nah dont worry about it, its a safety thing but dont really need it... (those same tuners slip you their business cards in cash you need an engine rebuild)
  18. I have driven a FG Xr6T.. Awesome drive... I wanted to buy one remember but We all know it will end up with an intercooler on the front, more boost etc etc etc.. With those mods its not a bullet proof package anymore... that's why Im weary.. Do you really need to have the quickest car on your street? Im seriously thinking Golf GTi instead.. Im a little pissed as Ive never been told by after market tuners NOT to do a mod because it upsets the equilibrium of the car... No doubt it turns the car into an absolute rocket, but at the expense of drivability and reliability. that you find out AFTER!! Oh and the 044 pump... if you like the sound of a mosquito in your ear buzzing away in the middle of the night, then get one, that's how they sound like.. Maybe worse than the mosquito.. People used to comment saying they could here my car buzzing away 2 blocks before I turned up at their house. "geez your cars nice but that buzzing sound, aweful". My Mrs refused to go anywhere with that car because the sound was so irritating to her.
  19. This thread is designed to be a do's and don'ts of XR6T.. For the unweary so they dont get caught up in making the same mistakes.. Its very questionable whether the components were designed to handle upto to 100% power increases on stock.. Id say 30% power/torque increase is probably pushing the limits of stock components.. Someone said about the 4 speed requiring an annual fresh up.. Who wants to spend $1000-1500 per year on top of rego and insurance to have their gearbox hold together? Its starts to put these cars out of the daily driver category and into the weekend fang car.
  20. Hi, I recently sold my XR6T.. Nice car.. The plan was sell it, buy a FG XR6T.. But the new owner has experienced a few problems with the BA XR6T... Which has disappointed me as much as it has him. I basically built it up and never used it. Never drag raced it, just the occassional squirt here and there, take someone for a spin, cruise it on the weekend etc etc. Now for a road car... Im not sure if Ill be back again.. Lets be honest, in standard form the XR6T is not the most enjoyable street car.. They have Good power, good space and that's about it... The real appeal of the XR6T is its tuning potential. They can be made into rocket ships for a modest budget.. that's where the smiles are.. But the tuning shops and even here on the forum, they really overrate the potential of the components Please post a do's n dont's of modifying a XR6T My do and dont is as follows... BA Don't put more than 280rwkw through a 4 speed box, it will just tear them apart. My car at 280rwkw run all day long with no probs. But at 320rwkw torched 3 Auto boxes in under 2000km Don't run a Bosch 044 pump as its just so noisy. Do Run a large Transmission cooler on the 4 speed auto box regardless of your power.. Do run a Large Engine oil cooler if running any more than stock boost..
  21. I dont really want to rubbish the workshop but if you are thinking of building up your 4 speed auto transmission or tune, PM me and Ill let you know the full unedited story...
  22. I dont really want to say who built the transmission just yet.. LEts just say its a very known workshop and they would be completely embarrassed at the way they dealt with my car (Now FPV_Steve). Id rather give them an opportunity to man up and admit they dont really know what they are doing with these types of cars.. And repair the gearbox properly or fund the proper rebuild of this gearbox by a workshop can fix problems rather than create them.. FPV_Steve did buy my old XR6T. I had the gearbox rebuilt one week before he purchased the car and it gave way about a week after he purchased the car.. The workshop gives the old tales, "he must have thrashed it, how do you know its the same problem" etc etc.. Three times in 2000km the gearbox has given up the ghost, exactly the same symtoms and the car driven very easily and not even under load. One time it went on the highway cruising at 80km/h in the rain, just cruising along.. You all read FPV_Steves account of how it failed on him. My advice either get a written guarantee that the box will last at least 12 months, otherwise dont give them any money to build the gearbox.. The car went into the shop with power and the box was rebuilt knowing how much power the car has, then when it fails in less than 1000km they say "those 4 speed boxes arnt really built for that power"... Why didnt you say that before you rebuilt it?
  23. dont even bother... spend $2000 or $5000 it wont hold up 350rwkw... I had a 4spd auto built three times and it dropped its pants 3 times in less than 2000km with only 320rwkw. Never raced, hardly ever driven at all.. Gearbox dropped its pants just cruising on the highway at 100km/h. Big tranny cooler on it and all.. each time it went it wasnt even under load..
  24. No way the dealer would have paid more than $15K for it.. I think its an average price.. Remember its an 02 BA, with the rubbery valve springs.. If you gonna do mods later (lets face it its inevitable) to much $$$ to spend I would say yeah yeah yeah Ill buy it, go in to sign the paper work, just before signing (they start grinning), just make a quick phone before you sign it and say a friend has just found you a BF ex copper for the same money. Go cold on them and walk away. Then lets see if they budge.. Take it for $17500
