I can reiterate my experienced when I had my 8psi edit installed and was making some 540nm across the power band and compared it to a modified SS with LS1 edit and exhaust. A heavy race from stand still to over 200kmh saw the SS keep a good 3m in front of the 1900kg ute of mine untill we both changed into 4th gear were the wave of torque helped punch my very heavy brick shaped ute through the air. I literally watched in slow motion as the SS slipped behind me. I had time to take not of the look on the young drivers face as he had his victory stripped from him at the last minute. In short Adam, the XR6 Turbo has a much larger area under the curve than the particular tune in the VZ SS Ls1 which therefore means (all things being equal, which they aren't) that the T will spend MORE time going faster than the Ls1 will. But not nessecarily making it the clear winner (since all things are not equal). Dman, time for a beer.

Through my experience the with a VYII SS its pretty even below 100kmh unless you can fire you BA off the line just right (in which case you'll have the upper hand) but its when you hit 3rd and head over 100kmh that the flat torque courve of the T shows its muscle, the SS will match the T when it hits its peak but before and after that the T will be pulling away, and that my friends is what will win you the race, even if your carrying 200kg more!

I think the biggest upside (on paper at least) is that the T-56 will hold a sh*tload more torque than the ZF can. THe XR version is only rated to 600nm (which is heaps)but any T with 300rwkw or more is going to be making a hell of a lot more than that, and untill Mal Woods or someone with similar input to transmissions provides an upgrade, a lot of BF owners could be staring down the barrel of a very expensive repair bill, just a guess, but I am willing to be proven wrong

A bit like the old adage if a tree falls in the forest with no one around does it make a noise? Just because you may not hear about it doesn’t mean it never happens. I see your point in regards to population density, but there is only one catalyst to motor vehicle accidents and that is the idiot behind the wheel. More focus needs to be placed on real driver training so that they can drive to the conditions and not to the speed limit. And have you ever been on one of the open roads in the NT? I guess not, as they are far from what you depict them to be. I’d love to see these east coast city slickers deal with road trains! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yup worked out there for 6 months from Mt Isa past Camooweal (spelling?) and the road trains out there that cart gravel from Concurry are 90metres long, have six cars and can only travel at 80kmh, and I had a asmatic dual cab triton to overtake them with. My first encounters were at night time, driving 20 hours through the night at over 150kmh on the open roads (in the Triton) and relying on the trucks high beams to light the way ahead until I passed. The only catalyst out there are 6 foot tall 300kg and hop. Other than that unless a freak accident (not involving the driver) such as a BF Goodrich 275 desert dueler blowing out at 140kmh are the only type of things to make a car leave road short of the driver doing it deliberatly to bugger up the statistics. Attached are a couple of photos just in case you don't believe me. So to answer your question, YES

I think the real reason why the NT has zero or very few fatalities is because the total population is less than 199,000 people and the have a huge area to share (some 1.35million km2) of which 50% of the population lives in outer regional areas, and the other 50% live in remote or very remote areas. Hence, little traffic, little congestion, few intersections, and no one else to take out on the deserted highways. Cpare this to Qld (fastest growing state) has 3.8 million people (2003 - closer to 4million today) and shares 1.7million km2, where over 50% of the popultion lives in major cities, 25% in inner regional areas and the remainder in outer region with very few in remote. Not suprising we had 9 deaths. Just to emphasize my point NSW has 6.7million people jammed into 0.8million km2, that's twice the population of Qld and half the area! ALso 90% of the population lives in major cities or inner regional areas, there are almost none in remote areas. Speed limit or no speed limit, there is just way too much space and no were near enough people for regular deaths to occur in the NT. Especially since most accidents on highways occur when someone tries a manouvre such as overtaking on the wrong section of road, or drives beyond the limits of therir car or is tailgating the 20 other cars in front. Very rarely do you hear of deaths in remote areas where someone just took off the road and died, there is almost always a catalyst involved, and built up busy areas contain a hell of a lot of catalyst compared to remote areas. Hence the NT low statistics compared to the other three densly populated states. And on a side note Australias population is officially up to 20,400,000 :D

I think I will get one when the tyres are worn out and due for replacement.
-
Just had them rotated and balanced and alligned, toe was way out (as usual). They put the meatiest tyre on the front right and the worst tyre on the rear left and rotated the other two accordingly. Without a shim kit its going to pull to the left a tad because the castor and camber are a little off factory specs. Nothing new, every Ford I have driven pulls to the left, only mt ute never did when it was new, took 5000kms for it to start though
-
Minimum tread depoth is 1.6mm so I have a fair bit left yet (should see more than 30K then) getting the tyres rotated and balance the front set as well as an alignment.
-
Just measured the tread depth of my tyres on both sides to see how they are wearing after 28,000kms and have the following results attached (PDF). Whats the minimum legal depth for old tyres and do mine need rotating. They are wearing pretty even with the exception of the rears which show up all the skids I've been doing turning right . I just noticed teh car is tram tracking a lot lately and pulling hard down the camber in the road, I will get an alignment done today but was thinking of saving a few bob and rotating the tyres first. Opinions? Tread_depth_28_000.pdf

My T5 has been singing to me since brand new, but it has the smoothest shifts so I don't know whats better

I would rather have Pilots, but if I can get 4 free tyres for nothing, makes my house deposit a little healthier (esp if I have to sell the beast one day :( ) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Fully understand. Colin in the Ford Service at McGraths would be a good one for them to contact in the event that you start getting the run around which hopefully will not eb an issue. Cheers, Dingah <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Except I am in BNE and their in ACT

Are they talking about me?
-
I have a ute and it clunks and I have not control arms just a big simple axel clamped to leaf springs. Its the diff!

They look just like mine, as I drive down the freeway I get a nice thunk thunk thunk as each split makes contact with the pavement.... I think I will be printing this thread out and all the photos

yes it needs the right tunes though <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Ok so when I go to Power Torque tomorrow to have the box reset, I should ask them to upload suitable tunes for an auto sedan? or do the default tunes that the box came with for my car (before they were custom tuned) be compatible with an auto sedan, as if he just bought the box himself. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> If you are talking generic tunes, yes you will need to specify whether it is for an auto or a manual. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Generic tunes, thank you. I will ask for auto XR6T tunes to be uploaded. Thanks for the quick reply.

I'm selling my edit in the market place and will have the box reset tomorrow for the next user. My question is, my car is a Manual BA XR6 T ute and it will be onsold to a Auto BA XR6t sedan. There shouldn't be any problems should there? The edit is universalis it not, especially if it is reset?

Ofcourse they do, its silly that it silly how it comes out and goes back to the government, but the government needs to know how much to to allocate as income tax revenue, even though it double handles the money.

hahaha I went the other way mate.. im 21.. bought my phoon first and im getting close to my 10% deposit for my house.. prob in 3-4 months tops.. , I can't get enough of speed.. and as much as my family/friends tell me I waste so much money on cars.. I love it!!, its my hobbie and I can't stop moding cars.. !! I hope I never get over speed.. hehehe <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Well done mate!! A typhoon and a house soon!! ah that's Awesome stuff but I would check with ya bank 10% is a good deposit but I think u need to save another 10% so u have 20% with you so u don't need to pay Morgage insurances! or get mumy and dady to help you out!! a bit I did't pay morage insurances thank god that's Waste of $!! good Luck mate. Dal. Dal. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> The sums I am working off show that a 5% deposit on a $300,000 loan means you pay $36,000 all up which includes all taxes, fees, and insurances. Crazy or what!

Well.I have had my car for 2 years now and I have too say that the novelty has long wore off this car. Would I spend that much again? Bugger that!!!!! I own my car and would not dream a blowing that kind of money again on one let alone borrow $60 to$80 grand on one.Tax right off or not. What a bloody waste of money. Rather buy a wicked COMPANY boat for that one. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I couldn't agree more. I love my T, but its next to useless vehicle. I have a company car which I don't pay tax on, so its totally free, so I have a $40K ute with 300kw sitting in the garage for up to 2 weeks at a time because I can't be bothered driving it. Why? Because the XT is so much smoother and its an auto. I know its lame I fortunately live at home since I am only 23 and I am saving for a house and an engagement ring so the ute is just a toy. At least I on;y owe $20K on it and its work $30K so I am in front and shoudl stay there. However I look forward to the day I can sell it and buy a better car, something like a Liberty GT or SR5 Hilux. I'm over the speed, which means the ute offers nothing more to me. It was only fast, nothing more. I won't be buying one again. I love the GT-P but for $80K I'd rather something else. Not sure what, but something else!! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> over the speed??? well your way over the hill... and the sad thing is your over it way TOO early.... enjoy the camry ill throw in a straw hat now back on topic your only at 240 rwkw or so?? if your over it, get some more grunt <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Liberty GT thanks for the Girlfriend and I'll have an SR5 Turbo Diesel for work. Black one, with chrome. Then I'll touch park it right upside your T!

I off to go check mine now, my 8psi map has felt flat lately even at night. I havn't driven the girl for 14 days so I think it should be cold enough LOL
-
I thought they stopped making them 40 years ago, I want a brand new car since I work hard enough for one.

How come the red book says that utes are worth as much as a sedan after 2 years, but are 10K cheaper to buy?! that's interesting.
