The best part was when the Terri turned into a helicopter and flew away. That must have been the Turbo prototype with rotor blades instead of turbine blades

There is a V8 upgrade as well, might only be a token amount say 5kw but it could be considerable as well. We'll just have to wait and see.

What if I want to agree with you though? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> There's always a first time! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Sorry big fella, didn't mean to startle you! Can concur on the highway figures, but definately not the city driving you pansy. Don't you know what the accelerator pedal is there for? I take it the sedan consumption is on the XT though. Scotty. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yes the sedan is for the XT which uses MORE than the XR! I don't baby the XR, it must be my shift pattern and the fact I almost never slow down for corners. I generally belt it to the speed limit in 1st and drop straight over to 4th or third and cruise, and try not to slow down on corners and change lanes around other cars. I give the XT a hard time also just because it is so damn slow, but once again I tend to drive long trips in Brisbane at constant speed (eg70km) with out and slow down.

Thanks guys I think I've decided to get the T after all. There are a few things I want on it so I'm gonna have to suss things out first, also I'm now considering a Tornado so I will have to look at how much I will be up for and how much cash I can organise. Once again thanks to all the people who replied to this thread your advice was very useful. Cheers Christian <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I am sort of in your position, I have a T ute and as a weekend only vehical, I can assure you that a Ford XR ute would not last 5 mins in a tradies world. I am a surveyor and we use nothing less than dual cab 42d turbo diesels. We have 3 Navaras fitting that description, one Nissan Patrol and one XT Falcon (my car since I am the director and not in the field). My T is for the weekends and it is showing signs of fatigue and it NEVER leaves the raod, its only 28K old in 2 years and feels older than the XT which has over 50K in the same time. The Four nissans on the other hand feel brand new and they have all done 50,000kms in 12 months and most of that is highway then straight on to large earthworks sites in rain and dry, dust and heat, and some very large topo surveys with the GPS bolted to the bullbar. They get worked very hard and they feel great, still tight, still run beautifully, they average 9lt/100km of diesel and get 750kms per tank. They all carry 400kg of gear and steaks and two of them tow quads around for some surveys. I personally drove one for 9 months before I go the XT Falcon and movedinto the office and I enjoyed driving it imensly. If I had the XR6 from home instead, it would be trashed, absolute pig sty. I work long a dn hard to maintain the condition of my XR and it still looks bruised and battered from a long trip out west to visit my girlfriends parents. I love the car but Its NOT a tough vehicle in any sense. For hard work you need ladder chassis, turbo diesel, manual gear box and ground clearance, fuel economy and resale. None of which the XR posses. Although they would be fine if you were a sparky for instance and it was subjected to urban duties only. But I take it your not?

The utes re heavy enough as it is!

They had cooling and packaging issues and moved it to the top, it made more power because of the shorter intake tract so they cast a restrictor into the inlet to keep the numbers down. Guess what the first mod will be to most owners...
-
Usually Trent and Scotty shoot me down for this because they have nothing better to do but herer goes... I get 640kms city driving and over 800km highway from one tank (80L) that's from the ute, the sedan gets 550km from 68L city driving, havn't done much highway so I don't know.

Both my BAs do that too mate. In fact, every car I 've owned has had the same problem with the sun. its just a different time of day for each model

I'm hearing ya but it's an extra $1500 bucks on top for injectors & valve springs, that's my only concern. How much quicker would it really be (ball park figure) with these in addition to the tune & edit? I'll be waiting for your feedback once you've had the cust tune & edit and can't wait to hear when you start flippin the situation on the VU. So will the stock internals handle the extra kW without a problem with just an edit & tune? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Its not so much how much quicker it will be, but how consistant and reliable the smooth power delivery will be, with edit only, you are at the the limit of injectors, which means comprimise and it all starts to go down hill from there. With injectors and valve springs you can keep the fat boost in torque and peak power going all the way to the top of the rev range, reliably with plenty in reserve. With the edit only, your right on the edge and have to live with a a shorter power delivery. Its a case of being half arsed or going the whole way and feeling way better about it. Either way you'll chop a tuned SS no worries.

Pretty awesome that FOV are running 400kw through an otherwise fairly standard hardware and drivetrain. Says volumes for the strength and durability of the F6 hardware doesn't it!

Nothing like a kill-joy to hurt the spirits............ Still getting one though! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Not at all.. Cars like the GTi-R were great little cars, same as the Celica GT4. They are both cars that 'should' have been, but were too heavy and were dropped by enthusiasts because it cost too much to make them GO.. Mitsubishi GTO is another, AWD, 4WS, all the gadgetry in the world, megga expensive new and now can be imported for 1/12th the original list price. The Nizpro Terry is a great example of what CAN be done with the big girl. But look at the coin that needs to be departed with... The top heavy Terry with easy power under the bonnet, are we going to see a spate of accidents because they handle like your average 4WD?? It's going to be an understeering nightmare with all that weight and the centre of gravity being 4 foot above the blacktop.... Yes I have driven a Terry, and while nice, they are still big and heavy and don't do corners..... Use them as they were intended, maybe give them a small tickle, yes, they will be a fantastic get around vehicle.. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Agreed. I can't see the point of a quick tank. It's still a tank, and will handle like one and brake like one. It may drive better than a 'nice rig' (Toyota Landcruiser, Nissan Patrol, Mitsubishi Pajero), but it's no featherweight compared to the XR6/XR8 and FPV's. I have no doubt it will be a great SUV, but getting one to go like a quick sedan is plain dumb. Imagine trying to race one around a race track I don't see any AMG ML55's down the drags or at race tracks. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I wouldn't buy one because it goes fast, and I wouldn't expect it to be as athletic as the XR6, but I would buy one because I would want to have it all. The looks, the interior, and when you over take the awesome HP, and its all safe, attractive and will make other people jealous. Its not a dumb idea, its great. Mazda MX5s are a dumb car. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> My you've grown up all of a sudden Alex, bravo, well said youngen <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Awww shucks

I just got back from a trip to Sydney where my Bro and his wife are both Senior Sergeants. He took me on a tour of police HQ and while standing our front his mate pulls up in his VZ SS highway car. He comes up the stairs and says, "Watch no one steals it will ya - its running hot again and needs to cool down", and leaves it running in the street. So we kinda watch it while he is inside, then he comes back out to get in and sits in it for about 10mins when the bonnet pops up and he comes over to us. "Damn things not going anywhere!" The thing won't start... Happens all the time apparently because they have got so much electrical equipment in them these days and the alternator can't keep up. Puts extra strain in the motor which runs hotter and in turn bursts its cooling system! Only happens to the Holdens. The Patrol Officer proceeded to express his hate of Holdens and how crap the SS is and longs for his BA XR8 that he had prior. I thought it was gold! SO I took a pic! You can see the coolant in the gutter, and the car went home on the back of a flat bed. Again... <div class='bbimg'> </div>

First mod, remove the restrictor!
-
Its easy in a manual, keep the revs below 2000rpm and skip every second gear and switch the a/c off. I did this for a week and averaged 10.5 in the city.
-
No, same as every other car with front mount, you should see what builds up between them! Just hose them out when you wash it.
-
Well my ute is as slow as a VY exec in this heat, just got beat by one and they gave me a big thumbs down :( I hate my ute sometimes.
-
I heard of this problem on some early BA builds, especially if stiffer sway bars had been fitted. But I thought it was just some isolated cases. Back to the dealer!
-
nothing wrong with the rim, shes all good it was all in the toe adjustments <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I don't think you can adjust anything else unless you fit a shim kit.
-
I read 260KW's standard for the new Vortech 8's in the commodores, HSV are sticking with the same 5.7 they have now (but would gain an increase in power if the stocko's are to get that much). <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Don't you mean 6.0? HSV.

Where they Mkii 19" wheels? Or mki 18" wheels. Big defference in price between the two. Ford want $3500 for a set of 4.
-
The different downloads would be more likely to do with istrument cluster calibrations and alternate flashing headlights (police mode). I know for a fact that Expensive Daewoo has implimented these sort of features into the VY/VZ range and just enables them for vehicles being bought for police duties.

Is it just me or did half this thread dissappear? I had a huge post that Adam replied to and its missing! LOL!
