yeah he had it hooked up when it was tuned, I have a boost controller hooked up now. lowest boost I can run is about 13psi, with the 12lb actuator, the actuator is a 10psi one I think anyways cos the tuner said he was watchin it and it was starting to open at about 9-10psi. if its a cold night then then the lowest boost is up around the 14-14.5psi mark. more power more exhaust gases so over boost.
-
K&M in mount isa, he said he had trouble with tryin to make it boost any more than 12.5. made 317kw on 11psi and 338kw on 12.5psi, on the street it boost to about 15psi on cold nights. that's with the wategate feed straight from the turbo. did a 13.300 at 108mph at townsville. 6 speed manual, also did a 111mph. on the cold nights and boosting upto 14-15psi the clutch is sliping in 3rd and 4th so probably making a bit more power than on the dyno. another guy up here has a bf ute with 319kw with just a capa cooler and injectors and punched cat, he was running 13.5s at the strip too. the tuner said my inlet temps were the best he has seen on his dyno. think they were around 45deg run after run. another ute with stock cooler makin 275kw was round the 65degs

It hasn't been tuned yet but it still shouldnt run more than 12psi. I have the turbo boost straight into the actuator so no computer controlling boost. Before I changed the housing and the actuator I had the standard actuator hooked into boost and it would run 5psi up untill 3500rpm then start to overboost. now with the 12psi it spikes past 15 without even trying. it just seems like its still not passing enough gas through the wastegate hole. with the bov venting some of the boost it holds 12psi fine.
-
So the title says I cant stop my over boost. I have a rapid cooler kit, 4inch dump cat back and just installed a modded housing and 12lb actuator. but still just over boosts. so a few details. I noticed on the 12lb actuator it has 10mm less travel than the stock one. has anyone else still had overboost even with a modded housing? I have the standard bov hooked up without the vac line connected and it opens at about 8psi and vents enough air to hold 11psi but without that set up it just overboost crazy mad.
-
it was on the dyno yesterday gettin a custom tune but they couldnt get it to hold any boost. boost came on really late then would spike upto 15psi. then they would shut it off. they said it might be the arm fallen off so I pulled the turb off last nite and it was fine. it holds 5psi to about 3500rpm then just goes crazy. thinking maybe wastegate needs to be ported....
-
Im having trouble with over boost. running rapid cooler and 4inch dump, with the vac line straight onto the wastegate actuator it holds at about 5psi then when revs get up around 3-3500 just spikes to crazy high. Would it be something todo with the wastegate not being able to flow enough gas to keep boost low at high rpm? was on the dyno with the solenoid hooked up and it was boosting up late then goin upto 15psi and they couldnt control it. I pulled the turbo off and found the wastegate was opening and closing fine, tested with a pump and it held didnt leak.

what do you think happens to air after it is compressed by the turbo? why do we have intercoolers? to cool the air that is heated by the turbo.

Do you have any pics of your rear setup? how is the trailing arms setup? cheers Josh

yeah for 900$ though I would rather just have my stock springs in and look like a 4b.... I have heard for 800$ I can get some bilsten shocks that the v8 utes use that will stop the tramp.
-
I have king springs all round, the rears are about 60mm lower and front about 20mm. Rear end gets crazy tramp with the lowered springs, king springs reckon I need to change my shocks has anyone found that difference shocks have stoped the tramp? I dont want to waste more money if its still gona tramp, looks hot low in the arse but car is useless, cant wheelspin without tramping.
-
yeah that would be cool, so we can drive around town 50 times in 10 mins trying to miss all the pot holes....lol, yeah send me a msg im goin to cairns/brisbane next week so this is my last weekend in town for a while.
-
thanks but I got lazy and just took it to the exhaust shop, probably charge me a arm and a leg. I got the zorst cheap so all is good.

so what was happing was the bov was venting back into the inlet at about 10psi, it was a bit laggy but still made a heap of power. think the turbo was probably working over time though makes heaps more air then needed. so now I have to bov hooked up with vac line venting to atmo. 8psi map its boosting to about 14psi. with the stock map in stays at 6psi. its all pointless anyways cos stupid arse tramps like a bitch with any amount of right foot....you can open the bov with ya finger and I think I had it the wrong way around so it would open it easier so only gettin 10psi.... so generic map with bigger cooler is a no go, so went back to stock for now untill a proper tune. how slow is 5psi like a atmo car.....
-
Just had a play and realised that all along the ute had been making 10psi only by the fact that the bov was opening and letting just enough out to make 10psi. so with the flash map and bigger intercooler it cant hold boost. put the stock map back in and it holds 6psi perfect. so dont pull the vac line off to get flutter remove the bov althogether. Im sure everyone knows this already.....I feel stupid now. explains why there was heaps more woosh from the pod then I expected and why it felt laggy, thought it was just the huge cooler....oh well we live and learn.
-
cept I live in mt isa and there is one small exhaust shop and no one seems to have anything when you want it on the spot plus I want to get a nut and weld it in myself at work for the weekend. searched everywhere cant find the specs, give some places a call tomz see what if I can find some details

I have a rapid cooler kit and 10psi flash tune, on the dyno the car was making 265kw on 10psi cutting back to about 9. that's with the bov inline but with the vac line not pluged in. but I have since pluged the vac line into the bov and it over boosts like crazy. So I was just reading and had a thought. With the vac line not hooked up would the bov be opening under boost and regulating it to about 10psi and when the vac line is hooked up the bov stays shut and the comp cant handle the bigger cooler and piping so the car over boost? with the pod its hard to tell if the bov is leaking boost back to the inlet, theres is heaps of woosh either way. I suspect the bov is leaking because with the vac line hooked up the car boosts up harder. but now I got a cat back exhaust and no bov hooked up and it spikes to about 13 then cuts back to 12 and jumps a bit up and down on the gauge as the wastegate opens and closes..... once the dump goes on its gona get a custom tune so it doesnt matter, but just something interesting to ponder about.

Got my new exhaust half on today, car is a bf ute with rapid cooler and 10psi tune making 265rwkw, put the rear section on slightly louder at idle but not noticable when driving, though cant hear much over the turbo spool from the pod anyways. overboost alittle to about 12psi, wheel spins and axle tramps in second now too. I got the 4 inch dump to 3.5 to 2x2.5 system pretty cheap new/second hand, its for a ba though and I have a bf so I wanted to know if anyone knows the thread size of the o2 sensor so I can weld on a nut for the second sensor? hopefully get some injectors next week too and get the dump and cat on and get it dynoed, 300kw here I come. cheers Josh

I have a mk2 bf xr6t ute and it orignaly had the auto lights when it got dark, but now when the switch is on auto they just stay on all the time and when the key it taken out they turn off before they would stay on for about 30secs after the key was removed....I hooked up some autometer gauges and spliced the pos from the cig lighter light wiring....what could make em change???? cheers Josh
-
Yeah I seen his kit, pretty pricey though. capa have a tramp kit that's $65 trying to get more info on it. Was thinkin of making up something myself. But its not so bad I guess just cant stick it to it so much and be carefully with the road surface, in the long runs probably save my tyres and my licence.....now that sounds so soft

I emailed a suspension place about the shockers the v8 utes run, quoted $399each shock....
-
the kings leafs have more springs which I guess helps stiffen up the rear for bumps but the thin top spring doesnt stop the flex under power. using the kings and standard together how much lower did it make it? I found the rear is alot stiffer and feels good over the bumps but just squats right down under power, plus I have about 60kw more then when I had the standards..hehe looking at gettin some new shockers to combat tramp

car was over boosting a bit today going upto 16psi then down to 14psi, tonight it was boosting to 14 and dropping to about 12psi.....on the dyno it was pretty good 10psi then back to 8-9psi, goes nuts now but not sure what the afs are doin. gets to 200ks way quicker now(on my private driveway) factory tune holds the boost at 6-5psi good....the sound is awsome though, without bov its just flutter for ages and ages
