I did the full flush and ran rain water (I live in Adelaide) through the system 4 times running the car with the heater on flat out etc, this changed the coolant from looking like brown coffee to running clear. Once I was happy that the system was clean I added the coolant mixture (Tecalloy Gold concentrate) and distilled water, I had bought enough to allow for the quoted 12.5 litres, but could not get more than 9 litres in it, even after driving it with a bit of boost the coolant level was still at the very top on the max line in the tank. I also did the hold the revs at 2000 rpm for a few minutes with the heater on flat out (heat wave I'm a champ) as well as running the engine with the tank cap off to bleed any trapped air. I also only got 9 litres out of it with the first flush, anyone else had this happen? But at least now my coolant is a nice healthy green colour instead of coffee brown, but should I carry some distilled water with me just in case I am short 3.5 litres? I also found that even when the temp guage got to just under half way and went no higher the thermal fans did not kick in unless I turned on the air cond, when are they supposed to cut in? Could this mean a faulty thermostat? Which might explain the 3.5 litres thing if it isn't opening? Usually buggered thermostats jam open, but I had a VT Late model camira which jammed shut POS. And if the thermostat is faulty it might explain why the turbo does not feel like it's boosting much.

I think the owner kept the books as a momento, she kept the bloody jack as well, and the spare was as flat as a turd and had a hole in it, now I'm glad I didn't have to drive it back. I got another jack from the wreckers and I have a spare wheel from my other car. I got it for a good price and it was exactly what I was looking for, so I should not complain but I when I bought it I also bought the books that came with it, she's still not answering calls or txt messages, I might have to write a letter of demand, but I don't think I'll ever get them.

Got my XR6T, love the car, very clean interior but service books and owners manual were not in the glove box when it arrived, but were there and in order when I had the mechanical inspection, this is tricky, is the owner deliberately keeping them or simply just forgot, has not answered my calls. I don't know whether to get heavy and say "the books are part of the car and I've paid for them so send them or else" or be nice at first ( you can catch more bees with honey than vinegar) and we are in a heat wave so nobody really feels like doing anything. The owner was always slow to answer txt messages and was hard to catch on the phone, but was always honest, reliable and co-operative so I should give it time, more than likely the owner has simply forgotten, but I don't know why the service book and owner's manual were removed from the glovebox in the first place, in my mechanical report the service history is mentioned and all OK so there is nothing to hide by removing them. In my other thread I mentioned the reason for me not being able to fly over myself and having to have the car brought over by truck instead just incase anyone says that it "serves me right" the mechanical report was very accurate and the car is everything the report said it is and I'm happy with it.....it has one of the cleanest well kept interiors I've seen and premium sound/Blueprint There were others interested and I really wanted that car so it was freight it or let it go. But does anyone know what happens if the previous owner has "lost" the books or says they never existed? Does Ford have all the records on the service data base so they can be replaced or substantiated? A car without books is like a child without a birth certificate.

What's The Difference Between Blueprint And Shockwave?

SubJimbo, the car in your avatar photo looks darker than blueprint or were you just saying that you prefer blueprint over shockwave? -
What's The Difference Between Blueprint And Shockwave?
bluesmuso replied to bluesmuso's topic in Interior & Exterior Workshop
cheers ENVY-T, good point, but to the untrained eye like mine having never owned an XR before they do look very similar in photographs although if parked along side each other in real life there would be obvious contrast between the Blue colours, do any other manufacturers have as many different blues in two model runs (BA,BF)? The Envy green on the series II XR's looks fantastic. Having checked out carsales.com for Blueprint XR's there are a number of them quoted as being blueprint which are the darker Shockwave colour, I guess it does not really matter unless buying touch up paint in which case the paint code will tell you which paint to buy, they all look good.......have you ever seen an ugly XR? I haven't! -

I see what you mean Iconic Bionic, the Neo does look closer to the Blueprint, the Shockwave is darker and has more violet than Blueprint. cheers Bluesmuso Thanks Phantomchic for the colour chart. All the Blues look good anyway, I'd say my favourite in the BA xr's would be Shockwave, I think the one I've bought (hasn't arrived yet) is Blueprint, I don't see that many Shockwave XR's around, Blueprint seems to be the most common. -

The photo on the right (foglights on) looks wicked but it may still be blueprint but taken in different light, or could it be Shockwave? -
Transporting Xr6t From Melbourne To Adelaide
bluesmuso replied to bluesmuso's topic in General Car Talk
Hey Guys thanks for the great responses, you're a good bunch I found a good professional car carrier $278 depot to depot from Melb to Adel with up to $60,000 insurance on the vehicle (drop it so I can buy an FG F6 LOL) I'm really happy with that, even with the cheap flights once I add taxi fare and the time factor I think 've come out of it pretty well. I still would have preferred to fly over and drive it back, maybe I'm getting old but I don't think I could be arsed flying over then driving it back in one day, I'd need to stay over night then set off in the morning. It's still got 9 months Vic rego, but when I transfer it over to S.A. I'll have to apply for a refund minus a percentage so hopefully I'll get some rego refund back.......maybe.....that can go towards a capa tuner ....but more than likely stamp duty Stamp duty will beat a Capa flash tuner no matter what boost it's running Thanks heaps everyone -
I've just bought a BA XR6T from Melbourne, I am in Adelaide, following all the checks Revs, Vic roads VSR certificate, Insurance cover, Racv which were very thorough, I have a full report on the car covering things I would not have even thought of or noticed. I was given the go ahead and advised that it was a good car for the price and it is exactly what I have been looking for (even my favourite colour) Now I just have to get the car from Melbourne to Adelaide, I have accreditation on at work at the moment so any time off to fly over is out of the question for the next week or so, it seems that freighting the car over here is the easiest option for me at the moment. Has anyone had dealings with any freight companies which they can recommend? What is better truck or train? So far looking on the internet it seems that the car can be transported from depot to depot from Melb to Adel for about $300 which isn't too bad. I realise that airline tickets are cheap these days but when I factor in the time, fuel and overnight accomodation which I'd be up for (if I had the time to spare) I don't think I'd be getting out of it any cheaper. The annoying thing is that one of my friends who lives in Melb was to be driving it over for me but at the last minute he had to go to Sydney and backed out, pity I don't have friends or family in Melb that need a one way trip to Adel with fuel paid LOL. But seriously if anyone can point me in the right direction as far as transport companies go I'd really appreciate it, it would be nice for the car to arrive in Adel in the same condition that it was when it left Melb (ie good, reputable freight company)

Can Anyone Recommend A Good Vehicle Inspection Mob In Melbourne?
bluesmuso replied to bluesmuso's topic in General Car Talk
RACV it is then, thanks Iconic Bionic, but since finding out the engine/chassis number it has money owing and the owner does not sound keen about me paying with 2 bank cheques (one to the bank which owns the car and one for the remaining balance to the owner who drives the car) so I'll give it a big miss, cheers for the reply. -
I live in Adelaide and have seen a BA XR6T which is pretty much what I am looking for but it is in Melbourne (Tulamarine area). Over here in Adelaide we have the RAA, what is the equivalent in Vic RACV? I have no time this week or even next week to get over there (I know it's only an hour by plane) but work commitments are keeping me here at present, and further more, I don't want to fly all the way to Melbourne only to find that the car is mechanically had it or been crashed and badly repaired etc, or even worse stolen cut and shut. l'd feel more comfortable getting a professional inspection, they would pick up issues (especially body and paint work) which I'd more than likely miss. I know on a public forum negative comments are not permitted (which is fair enough) but can anyone recommend a good inspection mob to deal with? Many thanks, I really like this car. Bluesmuso

Thanks guys, now I know exactly what people mean about hitting the fast forward button on the video when driving fast turbo cars....everything literally speeds up until you release the fast forward button (accelerator) again. This guy said that he got better fuel economy after the tune (after I drove it the trip comp said 13.2 k/100) but I don't rely on those. So this car would be similar in performance to an F6 Typhoon, what are the stats for an F6 Typhoon 0-100, 0-400m, kw's etc? I guess I could look them up, thanks guys there are some very impressive vehicles on this site with staggering power gains, I've heard people in America who have been over here love these XR6T's and wish they could get them over there (I don't blame them American cars can be butt ugly) why don't Ford Aust export? They'd be a bigger hit than the GTO I reckon. Cheers Bluesmuso

Whilst most people here are familiar with the power of these XR6T's I'm not having never owned one. The one I test drove was stock but with a CAPA flash tune box which the owner can connect to the car with 4 tunes available (Factory, Valet, 8 psi 95ron and 10 psi 98ron) it was a 4 speed auto. He said that it was tuned to the highest one and he was using 98ron fuel, so I assume it was 10 psi therefore not exactly stock anymore (I think stock is 6 psi) Well being a guy who normally only drives bog stock boring 6 cylinder cars which would be mid 16's 400m at their best this thing bloody went like a raped ape, it's acceleration in 1st gear was almost "sickening" but in a fun kind of way.......like a show ride on the stomach the pick up was literally gut renching. It felt like it could easily reach 100 in under 6 secs and would more than likely be somewhere in the 13's with the 400m times, but I am only guessing, but I know that other than his $900 CAPA flash tuner box it was stock. But now besides wanting one I am curious as to what fwkw and rwkw's it would have had in this state of tune, also I am wondering what kind of times it would get approx over 400m. He said that it went the same as an F6 Typhoon....I don't know about that but it was certainly quick enough for me, I know that a guy who owns an 11 second XR6T will say "that's nothing mate" but when you don't normally drive these cars you really feel the power, and the CAPA flash tune box really had me intrigued as to how easiliy you can just "turn up the wick" for power, now I can see why everyone raves about these cars, talk about bang for your buck and it's made here in Australia (Geelong) certainly makes me proud to be an Australian Anyway I thought I'd just share that with you and if anyone can give me a rough indication of the fwkw's and rwkw's and 400m times of the car I drove I would appreciate it. cheers Muso

I don't one one yet so I don't know what 'normal' is but I timed that at about 6.4 secs which sounds about right for stock from what I've read.

ktm07 16L/100 is good for gas, did you measure it's actual lpg litre usage at the pump or are you going by the inst. fuel readout on the car? Cheers for the reply ratter, do many fitters install liquid injection yet Aust wide? I've heard it's very good but the only installer is in Vic. Maybe soon other gas fitters doing vapour systems will start doing liquid systems.
-
I am looking into the LPG Vapour injection thing if I buy a BA XR6T, I am curious as to what the LPG consumption is like Litres per 100 measured at the pump (not via any trip computers) because my current inefficient non vapour injection LPG car V6 magna gets 17-18L/100 around town and if I could match that in a 240kw car I'd be happy. I measure litres divide by km's travelled multiply by 100 = L/100km's In fact if I can't find what I want to know with a search I will start a thread on the topic. I hear so much about XR6T's and LS1 holdens about how economical they are or how thirsty they are obviously driver behaviour has a lot to do with it.

I know this is a Ford forum and I don't want to do the ford\Expensive Daewoo thing, but I am looking at both models 2nd hand, either an auto XR6T or a manual VY SS, I know their performance is similar and would come down to the driver rather than the car in most situations. I am more concerned about fuel consumption variations between the two cars, I know people don't buy high performance cars such as these two in question for fuel economy, however if wanting to use one as a daily driver like I do and don't want LPG then fuel consumption becomes an issue. IMO the ford XR6T wins hands down not only as Australia's sexiest looking car ever but in many other areas, but I still love the sound of a V8 and have never owned one before, XR8's are out of my price range. Also how do the XR6T's cope in really hot weather? I've heard all the familiar jokes about fords in hot weather (Henry's hot water service) (Blue oval and Red circle don't mix) etc but it is my understamding that from AU onwards there have been no over heating problems and the BA is even better from what I've heard. The XR6T these days 2nd hand has to win Bang for your Bucks contest whilst the sparse SV8 is a similar price on the used car market the better appointed VY SS is a bit dearer than the XR6T especially with the 6 spped manual. Are there any things to watch out for such as transmission problems with the XR6T? Thanks in advance everyone. Bluesmuso
