A couple of nights ago I was playing around a little in 2nd (BTR) doing half-throttle runs from around 60-100. After about the fifth run I backed off and the car went into limp mode then shut itself down. I waited a few seconds and it started straight back up again. I did not a notice particularly high coolant temp but it did get to about 92c on a mild night which is not normal. It all sounds and goes fine except I now notice coolant temp rises very quickly by about 6-8c (and drops back down again just as quickly) when I get on a little boost. I had these fault codes logged from my 'Torque' Android app right after the incident: P0196: Engine Oil Temperature Sensor Range/Performance P0236: Turbo/Super Charger Boost Sensor "A" Circuit Range/Performance P1131: HO2S Circuit Low Variance Bank 1 Sensor 2 P1132: O2 Sensor Heater Control Circuit (Bank 1 Sensor 1) P2105: Throttle Actuator Control System - Forced Engine Shutdown P2110: Throttle Actuator Control System - Forced Limited RPM A few weeks ago, I began to notice that coolant temps where a little higher than usual. So about a week ago I did a flush and put fresh anti boil in. Could this be a dodgy thermostat? Cheers, Steph.

I've got 60,000km on my RVO built BTR. Runs like a champ. It needed a tickle after about 50,000km in the form of some new clutches. Been going strong ever since. Street duties only, I don't see why these autos cant last a very long time. RVO has done some 4l60 conversions for our cars and has one in the 10.s from memory. Still get an overdrive with the 4l.

Yes but depends on driving conditions and if you're still using the factory thermostat. Most tuners drop in a colder thermostat and adjust thermo fans thresholds to suit. Stock, my needle ran a tad under half even on cold days. After tuning and using the colder thermostat, temp gauge reads a little over 1/4 in normal driving/colder days. With temp gauge at half way, my temp reads about 104c. In 34c day temps the other day on the M1 in stop/start traffic and air con on, my temp went to 110c which was just a tad over half way.

Id Fuel Injectors 1000Cc
straughsberry replied to ilco22's topic in Fuel System & Induction Workshop
For anyone using or thinking about using the 2000's, you may want to think again. The injector is based on a Bosch LPG injector. Used with other fuels, the internal o-rings can swell, blocking flow and causing a lean condition. Next stop, Boomsville Tennessee. The 1000's are not based on an LPG injector and do not have this problem. -
I did this upgrade about 4 years ago. Ford uses the PBR C6 caliper, not the older C5. Unless you know someone at PBR, I don't think you can get the caliper brackets on their own. I got the front caliper kit from PBR which was minus the hoses and hose brackets. You will need different hose brackets. The only place I could get them from was Ford who wanted around $55 each while the standard hose bracket was under $10.

Same As Harrop At A Fraction Of The Cost?
straughsberry replied to djqc's topic in Driveline Workshop
I did a few group buys back in the day of 60lb Dekas and GSS340 Walbros. Shipping costs are included in the calculation. If import rules haven't changed from a few years back then the total of AUD$1000 is applied per package, per address, per day. -
If there's an IPhone OBD app that can connect over WiFi, you should be able to use an OBD adapter with WiFi. They are more expensive.
-
I used PBR pads. They're not very dusty and don't squeel. I found they do wear rotors a little quickly if you use them hard but bite very well after they're warmed up.

Great little app. I'm using the paid version. Works well with my el-cheapo China BT adapter. It's fairly fast and stable. I used the Passat theme and changed the colours a bit to match the the BA dash.

Cheers fellas. Must admit, I'm getting a little eager. But there's not too much we've left out of the bottom end for a streeter so getting fairly close to finally assembly on the donk after the crank and block come back for the new rod and pistons Hehe, started at a 500rwkw goal. Gotta stop talking to those flamin' Queenslanders

Cosworth piston and Atomic phat rod - DLM spec. Yeah billet main caps and girdle. We've calculated that the compression should be about 9.3:1. We'd like a little higher. The bottom end is being built to handle the turbo's max which should be over 45psi but we'll see how we go.

They're a Bosch EV14 I got from Five-O Motorsport. They come with adapters and pigtails. Flow is 1000cc at 3 bar and 1180cc at 4 bar. I'm after $500 for them.

Yeah I don't know what all the fuss is about? Ahh watchamacallit. All the boolit holes made his shop a little too cold. Even his intense nutritional regime of 15,000 calories a day couldn't keep him warm enough to 'tune' all the ace cars he tunes. I hear that the only reason why he's not No.1 most honorable tuner in Japan is because they might harpoon him for research once he steps off the plane.

Cheers mate. Me 3

Yeah soon is not on the cards. There's not much more I can do apart from billet crank and de-stroked and that aint happening. So I reckon as far as the bottom end is concerned, the spec is now finalised.

Don't tell him but I slipped some Arsenic into one of the 18 Big Macs he ordered. Still going boys. Decided to change rods and pistons to handle 1600+hp so we can attempt to max out the turb and in case a bigger turb goes on down the line. Also getting some work done to crank and some further work to the block while it's back at the machine shop getting the new rods/pistons checked.

's. Some good advice here. Leaving some headroom is a good idea as most people start off with a target in mind but inevitably want more. And if one day you decide to do an E85 tune, you'll need 30% more flow or so. Easier and cheaper to get the right gear now and spend a few hundy more now rather than a few hundy x 2 later. Did I mention I have a set of new flow-matched Five-O Motorsport 1000cc Bosch injectors for sale (I upgraded to 2000cc units)?

User an adjustable height setup. The Teins helped me out on one occasion.
-
The BA block has provision for only 1 knock sensor as well from memory. If you're still interested in pistons / rods. Feel free to PM me. I have 1 set of Mahle powerpak pistons and Argo rods left and they're going cheap! And 1000cc Bosch flow-matched injectors as well!

Any Ideas For Group Buys? - Window shopping for blokes...
a topic replied to straughsberry in Group Buys
I have a set of new Bosch1000cc injectors from Five-o motorsport. They are flow-matched and come with a flow match report. If anyone is interested, PM me. I'm now using 2000cc injectors for my big banger because of E85 fuel. -
Not sure if Jeoff is still hands on but when I was dealing with him, he was winding down and was only there part time. Saying that, it was still his business and even though he wasn't there hands I got the impression it was still under his control.

They've been around for about 40 years. I dealt with Dellow, and in particular Geoff Dellow, quite a bit a couple of years back. I asked him to make a Barra to 4l60/65 bell housing. Geoff was always a gentleman and professional to deal with and the product was spot on.

I've tried 4 or 5 sets of different branded coils over the years. The genuines have been the best. Others went from being ok to lasting just a few days before they began breaking down under boost. I sampled one set from China (from the manufacturer) that were as good as the genuines but I don't know of anyone selling them. I've now bought 3 sets of genuines from eBay and they've all been great. Go for genuines from ebay mate.
