I am with Shannons for both Car and Home / contents. My certificate states that my car is kept under a carport, I dont see why they cant just ammend your contract of insurance to state that its kept under a carport? Bizzare!, I'd understand for an expensive collectable / sports car, the requirement for it to be locked in a garage, but for a daily driver this needn't be so.

Ive got a G25, picked it up around a year ago from one of the computer shops on Latrobe street in the city, paid $260 for it from memory.. great wheel, made even better when set up correctly. Google the setup guide written by juls, it outlines what all of the settings in the .plr file do. My wheel feels much more realistic since tweaking the .plr file, with natural oversteer / understeer response and correction. anyone here play GTR2 or R-factor? im always looking for some pickup games, but rarely find some local races. Nizpro have their own FG F6, and have commenced development, with new intercooler being tested and many new parts in the pipeline. They have already tuned a few FG xr6T's I would give Simon or Dave a call on 9761 1522

run a bit of 3" flexihose, pointing straight down to the ground, but not too close to the road, as it will suck up debris. I would perhaps put some small mesh in the end to prevent it from sucking up leaves, small animals etc.

What are the problems which were experienced by the new owner? were they durability type issues? driveline / engine components gave out due to too much power? I agree that over 280-290 RWKW on a 4speed auto is pushing it, the bands and clutchpack struggle with the torque produced, and are living on borrowed time, with an annual freshen up required. Do - definately fit a large "reputable brand" transmission cooler with good airflow, and bypass the radiator endtank cooler. Do - regular oil change (7,500km) and maintenance (tighten manifold + turbo bolts every service). in addition the regular maintenance schedule items.

that's the irony of this situation, the downloaded rips of the Death Magnetic songs from Guitar Hero 3 sound much better than the retail release. Certainly sets a precedent. Its stated that the game developers received Stems of the final recording - separate instruments, well before the final mix was completed, due to the lead time required to put the game together. They were then entrusted to do the mix themselves, and it sounds 100% better than the retail disc, and these are low bitrate .ogg files! that's how bad it is. I honestly think it was a f*ck up in the final mix, I mean its that bad...My wife commented within 1 minute of putting the disc in for the first listen "WTF is wrong with the system?" its interesting, that the Metallica official forum was completely overwhelmed with new members asking the same question about the dodgey sound quality...then surely enough, posts started getting deleted...It has totally been swept under the carpet, so not to affect sales. The Mastering Engineer accredited to this album Ted Jensen came out and stated that the final mixes delivered to him were already brickwalled and smashed to hell. He has since been removed from the credits in the booklet. Doesnt want to be associated with it. I reckon they will quietly phase in a revised master to production, so as to not have to re-imburse people who bought from the first few batches.

James, so you think RHCP Californication, Stadium Arcadium SOAD, Hypnotise, Mesmerise Slayer Chris Illusion are "good sounding" albums? They have all been slammed for their sound quality, No doubt they contain good songs, and Rubin coaxes good performances from the artists, that is not being questioned. Death Magnetic is Metallicas best release since AJFA, but it is a terrible sounding album, provoked comments from Well known sound engineers etc. The albums he has been associated with over the past decade have all sounded very average due to the hot / compressed mixes (loudness war trend). Many believe his right hand man Greg Fidelman is the culprit, as Rubin has stated he doesn't get involved with the technical mixing any more, just gives direction. Stadium Arcadium was re-mastered by Steve Hoffman, after a petition signed by thousands of fans was circulated. The petition to have Death Magnetic re-mixed has reached 7-8000 in just a week. The problem stems from the record companies wanting to mix music as close to 0db as possible so it sounds loud on sh*tty average systems (car radio's etc)....The problem is that this squashes any dynamic out of the music, everything is the same level....In this case, the album audibly clips right through it. I have a high end system (20+k), also have high end Grado headphones / amp etc) it is unlistenable on a good - detail resolving system.

Panel filter and 2nd Cai (phoon) made a noticeable difference to intake noise on mine..Not just dose sound, but whistle around 1800 - 2000+ RPM, I love it. Changing the cooler and the UBP made it even more noticeable.
-
Ohh and its well known that James and Lars have acute tinitus, so they cant hear for sh*t. Im guessing the louder the better for them. It sounds ok in a basic car system (crappy factory fitted), but awful on headphones or a decent home system.

Its reported that they trusted Fidelman and Rubin with the final mix, as they were in europe touring at the time, and they approved it over the phone. wtf! Rubin hasn't produced a good sounding album in well over a decade! I honestly think his beard has overgrown his ears! He does get good performances out of the artists, but the mixing etc always sounds terrible, and I think Fidelman is to blame, ever since he started working with him, his productions have been way over compressed / limited, with audible distortion and clipping. (system of a down Hypnotise& mesmerise, Slayer - illusions of christ, RHCP californication and stadium arcadium etc etc.

It most f*cken definately doesnt sound anything like the black album. That is one of the best recordings / production still to this day. Death Magnetic has an issue with the mix, where the whole recording is compressed with limiters, constant clipping and audible distortion of the drums. Its believed the problem is in the final mix, which Fidelman and Rubin are responsible. Tons of articles on the sh*tty sound issue already, Rolling stone, wired, various music production / mixing engineers have commented on it. Its a real shame...I love the album, but its the worst sounding album I own, out of around 300. go to metallicabb.com to read more about it, the forum is overflowing with upset fans. If you want to hear how it was meant to sound, look for the Guitar Hero flac file rips on various torrent sites, it is how the album is supposed to sound, mixing etc much better, and it doesnt suffer the extreme compression / over loudness, so it breathes allot better. There are reports that not all the release batches were produced from the same master disc, but the 1st and 2nd batches here in Aus are affected (I bought both, in the hope that they had fixed it).

Long time fan (bought M.O.P on release) Their best work since And Justice For All, ruined by the worst compressed piece of sh*t mix I have ever heard. I purchased the album a day early, and rushed home to hear it. Thought I had blown my JM lab speakers the sound was that bad, even my wife commented. There are parts of The day that never comes, where the drums sound soo distorted and blown out...wtf were they thinking. (Greg Fidelman and Rick Rubin) Rick Rubin hasnt had his name on a good sounding album in over 10 years, most overrated producer! Go to Metallicabb.com to read the outrage over the f*ckup with the audio...Ironically the Guitar Hero 3 mix sounds 10x better, no clipping and digital distortion. search the torrent sites, for the GH3 tracks. there is a petition asking that they fix the master mix, last time I checked it was over 6,500 signatures. Such a shame, I hope it gets sorted.

Ive been running mine bypassed the radiator for exactly a year now. No Problems, apart from when I was towing our race car up a long incline with a 80kph speed limit (which is right on the torque converter lockup point. I stupidly didnt manually downshift to 3rd..and the auto went into limp mode at the top of the hill, recovered in 5 minutes. Mine is mounted behind the lower drivers side foglight. And if im going to be giving it some prolonged workout (ie trackday) I simply remove the foglight, which rams tons of fresh cold air onto it, I also cut a dozen or so slots in the inner wheel arch, and louvered them to let air pass through, I then lined the inside of it with some mesh. worked out great and looks factory.

With increased boost you will be blowing out the spark causing pre detonation. causing the miss you described. You need to get the pre gapped NGK irridium plugs, the WRX ones from memory, which are the right temp rating and pre gapped to .8mm Do a search and someone will have posted the part number. something like PFR6B? I give it 1-2 minutes warmup while I lock up the house, then the road out from my house is down hill, so the car is literally rolling along on idle for the first minute. I find with the custom tune, it runs a little rough for the first minute when stone cold like kinda surges a little for the first minute...if I drive away without a minute warmup, as it runs really rich for the first couple of mins to bring the cat up to temp as quickly as possible. Have you ever watched your instantaneous fuel consumption readout when the car is stone cold, its like 60ltrs with sedate driving. I find this normalises after 1-2 minutes warmup and would probably save fuel overall.

Yep good result for the minimal mods you have done. Injectors and Cooler are next.

Exhaust Heat Shield Rattle and Removal (Merged Topic)
Full Monty replied to SweetXR's topic in Exhaust Workshop
Grab some pliers, and work your way along the edge of the heatsheild where the 2 halves join, give it a crimp and a slight twist every 5-10 cms... I was able to do this by parking my car halfway up the drive way ramp and reach in from under the side skirts. easy as, took me 5 mins. Fixed mine until I replaced the cat with a highflow.
