  1. Happy Birthday iotlek!

  2. There is always something to fix/replace on my car these days

  3. Thanks for the info never heard of PER4MANZ turbochargers so Ill give them a call. So hiddeous if I end up getting a new/used gt35r turbo I should replace both the compressor/exhaust housings as keeping a .70 comp housing will just cause other issues with lag/pipework that really wouldn't be worth the effort unless I plan to modify the other parts of the car to match this.
  4. finding a replacement turbo that dosnt cost the earth is a pain

      riki83

what turbo you need? I have mine of a FG that's been ported, comp wheel etc for sale

  5. So if I am running stock boost at the moment it might have a negative effect with more lag. So would this be more than a 500rpm difference in lag ??? Also when I get the car tuned then there could be a benefit but only if I am running decent boost(guessing above 15psi) I assume I could just replace the compressor housing as well from my old turbo essentially using just the core of the new one. The way I see it is if I leave the larger housing on then it would save some time rebuilding the turbo and I might have the future benefit when tuning the car. With the negative being a marginal increase in lag ? Also would my stock pipe work need to be changed by using the larger comp housing ??? Cheers for the help/advice
  6. Well I missed out on that core/cartridge as well. Not having much luck with this ATM . After looking around I have found a few used or new gt35r's for sale that have the compressor/exhaust housings on already but are externally gated. Is is possible to get a gt35r and then remove the existing exhaust housing and fit my internally gated 1.06 housing. Most of these turbos seem to come with a compressor housing of .70AR where as my current one is .50 could I just leave the larger housing on ??? would there be any benefit or negative to doing this if it is possible. Cheers
  7. So with something like that I would just remove my compressor and exhaust housings and install them onto the core (cartridge) plus the waste-gate actuator ?? Having never done anything like that before is it something difficult or something I could do in my shed at home ??? Cheers for the help
  8. I have been looking around at turbo's and I assume the direct replacement for the standard turbo is the gt3582r ??? or is the Ford different ? Are there other turbo's which would work and bolt into the existing location ? I just want to make sure I am looking for the right replacement. I don't mind if I have to change my inter-cooler piping etc... if needed. Cheers for any advice
  9. If its ok where did ya get the new core from ? do they have a website ? Just checked the classifieds appears its' already sold
  10. Thanks Conrad I have replied to your PM Also was wondering what is the better Turbo Oil filter MS XR6 Turbo Oil Feed Kit Including Filter http://www.mscn.com.au/Scripts/prodView.asp?idproduct=631 or FORD BA BF TURBO OIL LINE FILTER KIT EARLS XR6 FPV F6 http://cgi.ebay.com.au/FORD-BA-BF-TURBO-OIL-LINE-FILTER-KIT-EARLS-XR6-FPV-F6-/170501427061?pt=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&hash=item27b2ad4f75 They are both about the same price but I was just wondering if one is better than the other or if they are pretty much the same. With the filter as if I replace it every time I replace the oil I would obviously want something that is easy to get a hold of. Cheers
  11. Would it be worth calling a wreckers ??? I will also wait around I guess to see if anything comes up. Cheers
  12. I plan on getting a one of these http://www.mscn.com.au/Scripts/prodView.asp?idproduct=631 a MS XR6 Turbo Oil Feed Kit Including Filter. I assume this is a good one to replace it with ??? Also when you mean changeover turbo assy is this like a kit with parts and I just reuse some of my old turbo parts to build it. Or is it like a swap where I send them my turbo they give me a new one ? What would something like this cost generally ? Cheers (also I assume my threads where all put into one thanks for that I wasn't sure if I should keep them separate or not)
  13. Hi Guys Finally got the turbo off the car now I need to work out where to go from here I have taken 2x pictures of the turbo to show what I can see. Firstly on the hot-side I can see that one of the bolts is snapped and appears to have been like that for some time (I never had to undo that bolt when taking it off) I have owned the card for most of its life(got it at 20k now 130k) Second owner so its either happened since I have had it or its something that happened early in its life and no one has noticed it. Secondly the cold-side has alot of scratches around the inside of the housing. Which means the blades are hitting this. Also you will notice something that looks like paint on one of the blades I have no idea what this would be. What I want to do now is either try and work out how to repair it. Is it possible to do this at home or is it something that will need "specialist turbo tools". If so who can I take it to to at least get a cost on repair/replacement. Basically I don't want to spend say $600 getting it looked at, only to find out I now need to rebuild it which will cost an additional $1000 or something like that. I mean if its going to cost me $1600 to repair I might as well look at either a good second hand unit or spend a little more and get a brand new one. Also is it even worth me considering a better turbo as a replacement? Cheers io
  14. Well I got it off. Cant believe how hard it was though patience is defiantly the key. I ended up getting the bottom bolt off however the top bolt was stuffed and nothing appeared to work. I ended up heating it with a heat-gun then my 14mm king-chrome ratchet spanner to crack it. Once I got this far it was easy. I also ended up taking the manifold off as well as it was much easier to crack that nut when I had a little bit of movement from this. I will end up having to replace those 4x bolts anyway so I don't mind if I damaged 1x of them. Now on to the turbo to work out whats wrong with that. Cheers for the help io
  15. I was thinking about this but was hopping there might be another solution before having to do this. Also I am not sure its going to help me that much with the crapped out top bolt (bottom one seems to be in good condition its more of a access issue with that one. In the case I do have to go this far I assume I would need to get a new gasket for the manifold when I bolt it back up or can I reuse the existing one ? Cheers
  16. Hi Guys Right I am trying to remove my turbo to investigate/inspect it for issues I have been having I have read the thread "removal-of-turbo-in-preperation-of-porting-and-valve-mod" Basically I have been at this for 3 nights (2-3hrs each night) to try and get the 2 right hand side bolts for the Turbo to manifold stud/nuts undone. I do not know what to do as for the life of me I can not get them undone. I have tried every spanner I have, including ratchet as mentioned in the thread, also unbolted the actuator bracket to help. (photo stolen from removal-of-turbo thread) I have tried every angle I can think of to get it off I have used wd40 etc... The problem is these 2x nuts appears to be warn plus the lining up of the nut is either to far each way (if the spanner is hitting each side of the turbo before it even grips if you know what I mean) I am not sure what to do now and how I am going to get these 2x nuts off. Can I use some sort of lock wrench like this at least for the top one. And maybe something else for the bottom one ? What can I do. Cheers io
  17. Thanks for all the replies Sorry I haven't replied in a while I have been busy. Yeah I have reasonable knowledge about cars etc just not sure what I would be looking at with the turbo. It's making a almost clunking like sound like it is hitting something. Not like the usual whirl-down sound I get. I called Turbo-Tech as they are only up the road from me and the price for a replacement is basically the same as a rebuild give or take $200 or so. I might take it off and give it a clean and see if that makes a differance. Worst case I will prob give Xtreme Ford Tuning a call as another poster suggested to see what options I might have. Thinking if I need a new turbo I might as well spend a little more on other bits done at the same time and have some more power. Anyway I will probably have to wait till Feb before I can afford this as the turbo's looking like its at least going to be $1500+ which I just spent on xmas/holidays. Cheers for the replies
  18. Thanks for the replies. Interesting that they do that to the nut for balancing reasons. When I spin the blades with my fingers they do seem to rub a little. Should I take my car somewhere that will look at the turbo? Would I need to remove the turbo or should I just take the car as is just in-case its something else ? Who Might be good in WA to look at this ? With the bearing pack is this something that can be repaired or is it something that needs the turbo to be rebuilt/replaced?? Cheers for the help Dave
  19. Hi Guys/Girls I have been a member of these forms for a while and have always been reading but never posting. (I have a stock as a rock BA xr6t ute which has only done 130k) I now I am having an issue and I am not sure what path to take and I hope I can get some advice on this. So my early Christmas present was a weird sound coming from my car. Basically I was driving back from work and every now and then I could hear a whir type sound with the car which I was driving off boost. When I got home and turned off the car and I hear a very mechanical whir as the turbo spins down (not the normal sound) So I haven't driven the car since and today got a chance to have a quick look. (Attached is a picture of the turbo with the pipe off) To me it looks like the front nut is broken on the top left hand side in this picture also there was a little bit of oil on the base of the housing which I wiped of with my finger. Now I want to know what to do from here: 1. I assume my turbo is stuffed/unbalanced now 2. What sort of cost am I looking at if its completely stuffed (worst case) 3. Is there a cost effective way to get this looked at and fixed, seeing as I have just bought all family and friends Christmas presents and will take me a few months to build up my savings again. 4. I am fairly mechanically minded and I am willing to give anything a go (I haven't specifically done anything with turbo's parts before though.) 4. I live in Perth WA so is there any companies/people that are recommend to look at this Its funny how things like this always happen at the most appropriate time. Any help would be very much appreciated. Cheers Dave
  20. I have tried numerous tyres on my xr6t ute. I have found that by far the Michelin Pilot Preceda 2's are the best set of tyres I have used. Even in the wet they grip amazingly well. Put it this way I have been a member since june 07 and this is my first post, I am only really posting because I firmly believe these are the best tyres for the stock 17" rims. Just my 2c anyway.
