  1. I love that you are keeping this manual. Is it a T-56 or the newer fg box, and has anything been done to it to support the power? What clutch are you using? Once you've set the manual benchmark is there a plan to bolt up a powergide and aim for 8's?
  2. I have a brand new fg manifold for sale if anybody is interested.
  3. I have a set of atomic valve springs I never used. If you are interested I'll see what I paid for them and work out a price.
  4. I've fot an ETM turbo manifold which I originally bought with a T04Z, but now I want to run the GT42 on that manifold instead. Is there some sort of adaptor plate I can buy or will I have to get the whole flange cut off and a larger one welded in place? I'm guessing I can't just adapt it without partially blocking the entry to the turbo??
  5. Cheers guys. I'll have some more info on my setup in a week or so but I'm definately thinking the T04z is the goods.
  6. I have a choice of either one. How do these two turbo's compare? What are there power ratings and what are the diferences in spool time on a manual ba xr6 turbo? I'm going to be happy with between 400 and 450rwkw but I want the car to be as responsive as possible and make boost sooner rather than later. I don't really care about dyno comps or drag racing, but it has to be fun on the street and the tack for events like powercruise. I'm thinking the T04z but would like to get some opinions. Cheers.
  7. Cheers man. Your setup is very similar to what I've started to put together so that answers a lot of questions I've been asking. It's going into an EL xr6 and I'm going to get the diff rebuilt with a kaaz centre so naturally want to do diff gears at the same time.
  8. I can't decide on what diff gears I want. I'll be running a t56 from an 07 BF xr6 turbo and 18 inch wheels. How do I work out the max speed for each gear? What would be better for building boost on a T04z? I'm thinking 3.9's would make it spool really quick without making wheel spin too hard to control where as 4.11's would just make smoke. What do you guys think?
  9. I know I'm digging up an old thread but I've bought an fg manifold and will be bolting it up to my bf motor before I install it into my el xr6. I'm a little worried about bonnet clearance so I'm wondering if anything can be done to make the fg throttle body work with the bf computer. Alternativly I want to know if there will be any ill effect in mounting a 45 degree bend between the the throttle body and the manifold. I know that it will add volume to the manifold but will this be a bad thing? What will be the compromise if I do it this way?
  10. I haven't done all the sums but I've made a bit of cash back from stuff I don't need so at a guess I'd say no more than 7k. That's including the complete wreck minus what I've made back so far, plus the el xr6, a bullsh*t $400 wovi inspection to get it off the written off list aswell as a road worthy and 6 months rego. I've still got some stuff to sell from the ute and when I'm ready to do the engine swap I'll be selling the tickford motor, gearbox and ecu. I hope to keep the whole project under 20k. I had to replace the k-frame so while I was at it I rebushed the front end with superpro bushes, installed new ball joints, tie rod ends and bolted up a 30mm sway bar. I'll give the arse end similar treatment when I upgrade the diff. I had kept the springs from the futura and picked up some second hand koni shocks for cheap so that went in as well. I haven't really looked into it but I'll be using the 3.7 gears (still need to confirm) from the ute with at very least bigger axels, but I'm thinking about a 9 inch or maybe a kaaz.
  11. I was talking to an engine builder for advice on oil pump gears and harmonic balancers and he explained to me the reason the oil pump gears fail is because of bad harmonics from the engine weakening the gears in the pump. He said to me the oil pump itself is fine as long as I install a top quality harmonic balancer. This make's sense but my concern is that my engine is out of a wreck that took a massive hit into a poll. Should I be worried about the impact weakening the oil pump gears? Should I buy a new oil pump to be on the safe side? Can anybody tell me roughly what a standard oil pump would cost compared to one with billet gears? It's very easy to say just replace it to be safe, but I don't want to waste my money if there is no need to. The motor has only done 27000kms is currently on on engine stand.
  12. Last year I sold my munual El Futura, it had a T5, Xtreme heavey duty clutch and lightened flywheel, 3.45 LSD, Jay's RPD R6 Cam and heavy duty valve springs, Pacemaker extractors, Magnaflow high-flow cat, probably more but that'll do for now. Early last year I bought an el xr6 as a rpairable write-off to use as a base for my new project. It's a 97 model, auto and seems to be pretty much stock. The last piece of the puzzle use to be a 2007 BF XR6 Turbo ute with T56 manual. Technically a repairable write-off but in realality this thing was f*cked; whoever put it in a pole would have been hurting for some time. I bought it as a donor car for the DOHC conversion and have been selling of the stuff I don't need. The turbo and intercooler are damaged but it gives me a good excuse to upgrade to a T04z and better cooler.
  13. Cheers for the advice mate. I really don't know anything about the properties of different metals so I hadn't compared the manifolds in that regard. The reason for considering the Snort manifold is I want to use one of their water/air plenaums. http://www.snortperformance.com/plenums.htm so I thought it would simplify things by shopping at the one place. I really think the plenum will work well with short piping making for a very responsive and fun car to drive. Also, my BF turbo motor is going into an EL XR6 and I don't really want to mess the front bar up with a giant front mount and I like the idea of not having to cut holes for piping or make up brackets and sh*t. Saying that though, there is no reason I couldn't use an ETM or a 6 Boost turbo manifold with the same setup. My turbo is damaged so I'll have to do some research and decide if I want a standard replacement or an alternative recommended by ETM or 6 Boost. Any input is appreciated, I want to spend time researching so I only have to do things once.
  14. hey mate, I posted the exact question a while back with no love. If you have any luck let me know; mine's a bf so it'll be a little different but might be better than nothing.
