  1. If you have a BA & have not had the rear brake hoses replaced DO IT NOW. Yesterday I had the right rear brake hose fail where it is fixed to the chassis Luckily I had just come into a 25 km speed restriction for road works at a T junction, when the brake pedal nearly went to the floor. I had to grab the hand brake to avoid hitting the car in front (& change my daks when I got home). This was a recall by Ford some time ago, & I had booked it in at Adrien Brien (Keswick) when I was there for an inspection on my gearbox because of coolant contamination but I was told there was a shortage of replacement hoses & they would contact me when they had parts available. They never contacted me & as time went by I forgot about it (my fault). I should have followed it up, but so should have the ford dealer as it was primarily their responsibility considering the risk of injury or death to the occupants when this happens (maybe because I do not get the car serviced by them they think its ok to do nothing even when a request has been made.) When I called Adrien Brien (St Marys) & told them I needed the hoses replaced, they slotted the car in friday afternoon & replaced the hoses promptly and at no charge. Happy with that particular service.
  2. Check your warranty as FORD will have all sorts of excuses & try to worm their way out of having to pay for repairs .Personal experience with the same problem. Apparently when the trans oil & coolant mix it delaminates the clutch material in the trans & ruins the soleniods. The radiator & heater hoses, & any other hoses should also be replaced. Did they flush out the trans & replace trans fluid. Allmost impossible to flush out all contamination even after several tries should be stripped down & cleaned out (trans & torque converter) & vunerable parts replaced. Make sure you have recorded all that was done & said by repairers & Ford, (written statments) so you have concrete evidence to back up a claim in the future if the trans becomes faulty due to this contamination. Write a letter to Ford & Dealer stating your concerns about the effect of this contamination & future performance of your trans. Send registered letters, ask for confomation of reciept of letters & keep copies of everything. They will probably say the contamination was not in the trans long enough to effect it, but this is an unknown factor & nobody can say for sure, only time & use will tell. This is a common fault in the BA & should have had a Ford recall to rectify it
  3. Check the drive line posts there where several with pics where to place & how.
  4. Check the trans fluid for contamination, flush it out & replace with new fluid,if it has only just happened the trans may be ok, The contaminated fluid will delaminate the clutch plates & coolant corrodes the solenoids etc. How old is the car & how many Kms. I had the same problem with my BA & had radiator ,trans ,hoses, overfloww tank replaced & flushed out the engine. I fitted a cooler & by passed the radiator. The car had only done 118000Kms ,4 years old.
  5. Try Marion automatic transmissions ,Marion Road Mitchell Park. Very helpfull, seems to know what he is talking about, quoted prices are competitive.
  6. Can any one help me with advice on how to get assistance from ford to fix the gearbox. I have a BA 2003 that hod been serviced by ford dealers. I would like to here from any people who had this problem during and after warranty and how they dealt with it. If there are significant numbers reported & repaired there should be a case for a class action to help all oners effectedby this problem.
