  1. Fairly common problem. Had the same thing happen and Ford changed the fuel sender.

    Petrol Prices

Anyone notice (in Vic anyway) that the price difference between Optimax and unleaded is now 10c ? It's not enough the unleaded price has gone to what it has but we are now paying even more for the pleasure of premium. I rang Shell for an explanation and was told my information would be given to the "right people who can answer your question". Obviously they only employ wrong people as I'm still waiting for a response. Wasn't even after an argument, just an explanation. Wasn't going to make any difference anyway I suppose......
  4. I'd seriously consider another T at the end of my lease if a 6 speed auto was available. Won't get my hopes up though - wouldn't surprise me to see it just in the FPV range (maybe a nice way to get the F6 back on track).
  5. A new auto box may be just enough to convince me into another T next year. Any info on it being a 5 or 6 speed?
  6. Sorry to hear of the misfortune JB. I have usually been pretty unforgiving when hearing of these things (27km/h over etc) but when it comes to speed school zones in Vic, it is nothing short of a joke. I totally support the reduced limits, but the methods used to sign these zones is unacceptable. The most common signage appears to be the "40" sign which are only active between 8-9:30am and 2:30-4pm. By the time you read the sign (assuming you read it all and understand it), check the time and adjust your speed (in some case this can be by 30-40km/h), you can be half way through them. The guy behind you has his clock set at 5 mins later or earlier than you so he is giving you the finger and blowing his horn. I go through one of these every day and now avoid it as I'm sick and tired of being abused just because I'm sitting on 40. What time is it? Is it school holidays? Does it matter if it is? Pupil free days? Weekends? What does "school days" mean? As you have unfortunately found, the punishment of misinterpreting the sign is far too great for the crime. Don't forget that 2 years ago the same government had no reduction around schools. The other two signage methods are much better - fixed 40 zone signs permanently, or electronic signs that change at the designated times. I also travel through these and they function much better - no need to check the time and no ambiguity - clear and simple. If 40 zones are so important then they should be signed with the same level of importance - not left open to "interpretations" Fight it on principle and good luck!
  7. BarraTurbine, Can you confirm which springs have the issue - is it the earlier ones or the ones fitted past June 04. My car is an April 03 build.
  8. If it sounds like a clicking sound from the right rear around where the speakers are Ive had it to. Turned out to be skin flexing and took the dealers 10 hours to find. Alll fixed now I think it was above right rear wheel and its hard to find but it can be done. Was fixed under warranty. Hope this helps <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I've had this damn clicking for the last 30,000 kms. Dealer has looked at it 3 times but no go. It sounds like it's coming from the right rear along the parcel shelf. Do you have any other info regarding the skin flexing and what they did to rectify it? I have the 45K service due soon and want this thing fixed.
  9. A comparison was made between a Ford and a Expensive Daewoo on a Expensive Daewoo website and it made out the Expensive Daewoo had the advantage. Considering the sales figures for the SV8, what did you expect exactly? All manufacturers "skew" these comparisons in their favour. The "Expensive Daewoo boys" aren't silly - they are playing to their market making the SV8 owners fell good about the extra 20nm of torque over the T. Would it make sense for them to also add you need an extra 2000rpm over the T to reach that max? Just buy the better car.
  10. 42850 since May 03.
  11. I've had the same problem with my AC and the solution was exactly as mentioned by Chips. Dealer re-gassed it and problem gone. Dare I ask but is this a common issue? I use my AC sparingly and was surprised at having this done after 18 months.
  12. I've only ever tried Optimax so I find it a bit difficult to understand how some of you guys claim to be able to tell the difference. My T certainly has days when it feels better than others but my best bet is that its environmental rather than the fuel. Aren't all these fuels susceptible to "bad batches"? Maybe we could get a few guys to fill each others T and see if they can all tell which fuel is which. Throw in Trumpy's Juice to make it interesting.
  13. Looking for a new or near new small/medium sized car for the better half. Open to suggestions but am particularly interested to hear from anyone who has either a mazda 3 (hatch or sedan) or new golf. Before anyone asks, the fiesta is a bit too small and the focus didn't inspire the potential new owner... Thanks. BTW, she may read this so for God's sake don't mention the RX-8. I think I just finally got her to admit it's out of the question.
  14. Don't you mean anyone living in Geelong and paying more than $1000 is getting ripped? The harsh reality is that in Melbourne/Sydney etc, paying $900-$1000 for insurance is becoming common place for many cars. Don't buy your house in the wrong suburb....... I was 28 when I got my T and AAMI wouldn't touch me - rang three times and spoke to 3 different people - straight out no as I was under 30. Driving history you ask? No at fault accidents or claims and I'll let you all know when I get my first fine. They tried to push me onto Just Cars and aside from the ridiculous price, I'd be reading the fine print very carefully. Don't forget AAMI underwrite them.
  15. I thought all the SP3000A's were Aussie made and the SP9000's were the Japanese ones. Had my 3000A's for 33,000kms and am happy with the wear rate. Always run mine at around 38psi and no sidewall cracking.
  16. 300kms from a full tank on the highway?? What does you instantaneous fuel consumption read when cruising at 100km/h? Just for reference, I managed a highway stretch last week where I averaged 9.65l/100kms. Around town in heavy traffic I rarely see anything above 15l/100km. Get it checked as assuming you are not extremely excessive on the accelerator, something is NQR.

    Letter from Ford

My T is on radiator no. 2 already. I'm in the process of writing a "please explain" letter to Ford but based on this thread I think I can guess what the reply will be.
  18. I've just gone through a rear bumper replacement due to a minor accident (why don't people compensate when driving in the rain?? ) I guess I'm after an opinion on how difficult it is to match the paint (mercury silver in my case). I was always happy with the cars paint work but since the repair can see a difference in the colour from body to bumper. It's worse in full sunlight as the original paint has a lot of metallic fleck that is visible whereas the new paint job seems to look more matt in comparison. I've applied a couple of coats of WAX to see if it makes any difference (I'd recently waxed the car before the accident) but still the difference remains. I can post a pic but am more interested if you guys think I'm just wasting my time taking it back to the repairer. I'm really fussy when it comes to this and its driving me bananas . I've checked out a couple of other HgAg cars and there seems to be a bit of variation from car to car (some look OK, others NQR).
  19. I've noticed the same leak from the same area - will bring it up at the 30K service this week hopefully. Lately, my idle appears to be hunting. Almost stalled on me a couple of times and now that you mention a reduction in performance......... Might have to book it in for 2 days when I think of the list I've got for them.
  20. My radiator lasted a whole 27,000 kays. Started spewing all over the place - should have seen the looks I was getting when I stopped at lights with all this steam coming out from under the hood. Luckily I noticed before the coolant ran dry so didn't have to check if the failsafe cooling worked. After replacement, the dealer graciously left me with a reminder of what happened by not cleaning the engine bay of all the lovely coolant stains. Oh well, at least if a bird get stuck in there and s&%ts itself no one will notice! Maybe not related but now the aircon only works out of the right hand vents in the dash! 30K service soon - can u book your car in for service for a whole week? It may need it.
  21. Ordered on 19/12/02. Received on 9/5/03. Was fleet though. I love these "waiting" threads.
  22. Dave, I also checked Castrol's website after seeing Castrol FMX written on my service docket and as you say - no mention of it. My dealer claims it is only available to them in bulk (I.e. we can't buy it off the shelf) but that it is "very close to" Magnatec. Not sure what "very close" means but they did advise that if I wanted to top it up to do so with Magnatec. Based on that advice, I had hoped that "very close" at least meant the same grade but going on your findings, who knows? I'll have to nail them down to an answer as the least they can do is offer an explanation as to why they are using different grade oils than the spec suggests.
  23. Stock here and same problem. Didn't this get noticed with all the "torture" testing in NT? Must have been the same dude checking for brake shudder. Will be bringing it up with the dealer. I will demand it gets changed but I would guess the same thing is going to happen again. Car has never been near half way on the temp gauge in over a year so no excuse really. What happens when it starts flaking off? Where are all the blistered bits gonna end up?? 2 years on the lease to go. Maybe by then I'll have everything sorted so the new buyer can drive off in a great car.
  24. RUNVS on a jag about 10 years ago. Are you envious? I'm not.
  25. Shh Shh is an unlisted no cost option installed on all falcons, commodores and the odd Magna as I heard one yesterday believe it or not. Gives me the Shh Shh alright. After living with it for 3 years with a VT, you can imagine my joy at hearing it on the T. I heard it on a BA fairmont yesterday and I couldn't believe how loud it was. I asked my dealer to cut the shh shh from our conversation and tell me whether or not they knew what it was and if it could be fixed permanently. He answered Yes and No respectively. For those who have had it "fixed" I can offer you this advice to avoid hearing it again - keep you windows wound up and stereo on at least 10. FWIW, the explanation I received had something to do with the removal of asbestos from the park brake shoes??
