whaddya mean - 'failed to finish'....!! Failed to start more like it. What are these Ford bozzos thinking !!! Maybe next time, put the car over a pit and give her a check over before submitting to the wolves. rant over..... too upset !
-
hee.... steering wheel - that is..... of course....
-
MissT had her fronts replaced @ 30K !!!! Eliptic groove still evident but the Ford techs (30K service ) said they were now undersize !!! I don't drive all that hard (auto) and had one track day at Mallala but they were apparantly rooted. new DBA 4000 + Ultimates are fantastic and far cheaper than OEM. Pads could be a little hard for general mororing so I'm watchiing the rotor wear like a hawk ( or is that Falc ). The other day I came down the freeway (Adelaideans know it is a serious test for brakes) and as I pulled up in the 60 zone I nearly smacked my head on the wheel. ;-)
-
MissT has just been through this loop. Bought DBA4000 slotted and Ultimates. Feels very strong but I think it could use another brake bleed. Pedal is a little soft. This is on top of FORD Premium calipers (PBR). Looks a bit shmick as well... If your doing track days don't even think of standard brakes.... you will kill them.

And there I was thinking it was a movie from my favourite band - RUSH !!! SOB...
-
that's right! check the box marked..."stump pulling torque". you get to test it everyday.. much safer than bricks BTW.
-
I agree. She'll get flashed alright. MissT went in for her 30K three weeks ago and the nice man said she was going to get lobotomised fer sure. Something about the overboost problem. whatever ... Can't feel anything different in how she drives but I think my economy is now shot to hell. hovering in the 16 -17 range on fuel average/100k
-
me? I'm not a re-seller. I think your after Bcr01 ...
-
$305 ea for DBAsports4000 rotors and the initial pads were $125 Lucas DB1473 - but they don't fit my Caliper !!! changed for Ultimates for no cost.. I'm real easy on the brakes for the first 200 ks. spent some time last night doing 60kph down to 5kph with firmish pedal applications. should be ok....
-
This all happened after the 30K service. The front pads had 5 mill left and the rotors had a 2 mill wear lip. FOMOCO claimed they could not machine them as they would then be under size !!! The rears were ok - I've installed Lucas pads back there and the olds had about 6 mill left. I'm not especially heavy on brakes (least I don't think so ;-) ) Its the $2000 that was the catalyst for the project. yikes !!!
-
OK - FOMOCO claimed my premium brakes were knackered and I required replacements @ approx $2K... no thanks ! So I go NET shopping and select some DBAsport 4000 rotors and Lucas pads. Lucas pads did not fit so the nice ABS man changed em for some Bendix Ultimates. Jury is still out on the Bendix pads being any good and they may prove expensive on rotors. here are the results... all for $840 ... much better!

Huge thanks to all who have responded to this Clarion Call. I have some irons in the fire that will get back to me next week for the brake kit. I'd like see what comes back in the way of quotes before moving on the more learned suggestions from Forum members. Ah! what a resource this site is !!! again many thanks. All that being said I think I rather like the idea of Red Calipers shining through the rims... later dudes and dudettes !!!

Just checking before I surf some more... Thanks CRO for the offer. Give me another day or so to pursue some upgraded bits and bobs. If it all works out too expensive I may just take you up on your offer and throw them on with the original disks. Not a perfect solution as I like MissT to be just 'so'. thanks all for the responses so far...

Hi chasps... OK - MissT has just been in for her 30K service. All sweet. They fixed the exhaust rattle, tightened the front submember that was (apparently) loose and reflashed the PCM (even though I expressly asked them not too!). Now they claim the front pads and rotors are worn below spec and must be replaced !!! after 30K !! are the rotors made of cheese ??? I ask you. They ask $750ea for front rotors and $305 per set for pads - all OEM. total $1994ish. YIKES !!! So I think to myself....'self' sure I can do this a little cheaper than that. Today I surf PBR - Harrop - and any one else who comes up under google ! Any one on the forum care to offer some suggestions ? Remember I'm South Australia based so any clever ideas that involve driving the car interstate will be daintily side stepped out of expediency... cheers to the forum

Trust me. as a long term Silhouette owner who gets obsenely close to his car (see wash counter) the fleck is blue. Any gold (a la WRX Sti Black) is an impostor. I can look up the paint code if the forum really wants it... cheers

To all those asking.... I leave the wax dry for about 30 minutes. This new stuff (NXT) doesn't seem to haze at all. I then lean into the elbow grease and get a dirty elbow. ;-) Seriously, cause Puff has bugger all swirl marks, due to owners wayyy too much time on his hands, she really comes up a treat with this stuff. and once a week wash helps keep the sh*t off her flanks. Is this love ??? -

Try starts with an 'M' and ends in 'guires'. NXT tech wax. unbelievable stuff. Tried some last weekend and I'm sold... easy on easy off. Only 'M' products on my baby since new. Separate sponges for lower sills and upper body. Dry with soft cotton loop towels. the 'FORD' ones are good. Repeat every weekend..... -

Whaa ?? As the 'original' Silhouette group leader I welcome the new kid. Have fun as always and be ready for some envious looks once the 'beast' is spanky clean... now ! about this Epithet of yours...... how come !!!
-
So who has the squeeky clean car then... SOB. I would also like to know how many times did it take you to get the light right. .. well done.. I'd like to try it myself but none of the mates cars would keep up....
-
Team Silhouette also extends a welcome to the new kid... enjoy those envious looks... I DO !!!!
-
Puff definately wants to know about this one. Keep any dates and times on this thread for those of us who think a track day in their T is just sublime fun. For the record. Fronts 42 and rears 38. Performance brakes as a minimum. Standards will go away after 3-4 laps. You will also put away about half a tank of fuel so leave some over for the drive back to town. cheers to the group...

Black and still highly exclusive.... Man she looks great just washed....
-
How much more? Well I was a consultant on the Hubble mirror project !! that's how shiny... ps. check my wash counter (sig) for how anal you CAN be...

I use them for the road conditions at the time. Dim available light ? - ON they go! As a motorcyclist from way back its all about being seen. Way too may Adelaide drivers give scant regards to stop and give way signs and just pull out onto main roads. Thus, if I think there is the danger of some twerp performing said manoever in front of me, on go the driving lights. If they STILL pull out and cause me grief then I'm completely justified in giving the bas*ard motoring hell for the next kilometre. Call it personal Blues and Twos. High beam + Horn. Mainly dawn and dusk are the optimum times I find. cheers
