    Old Ute Or New Utes?

I am actually considering selling the 2 month old xr, to go back to a nice xp, maybe sedan delivery. Does anyone know of any for sale?

    Maloo Hrt ...

My opinion, HSV has turned a very smooth looking ute into a plastic piece of s#@t. The crewman is possibly the most awkward looking car around. Functional but fugly. It does allow a "family" car to be claimed as a work tax write-off though. each to their own

    Xr8 Vs Xr6t

I got the XR6T ute over the 8 because I figure it will probably be worth more in a couple of years when they are more affordable to the younger generation who go for turbos over 8's. That and the turbo drove better. Drive both of them hard through the twisty stuff and you will understand. The only downside is that it doesn''t sound as good, although with the centre muffler out, the turbo still sounds sh*t hot. But the 8 is one of the best sounding stock engines around. The manual in the eight feels better which is also a factor. If you were getting an auto, I would definately go the turbo. If you want a manual you have a big decision to make. Either way you will be happy. Keep in mind that you can spend that $1400 on a chip and blow any 8 away. :D
  5. From my experience, only about 10 - 15% of cops would pass an "attitude test".
  6. Turbo 6, Have you done any more exhaust work since the muffler job? And is yours a Manual or auto? I drive a venom ute in Brissie, I have only had it 3 weeks and was going to wait 12mths or so before boosting it. But now I am not so sure, where did you get it done? I have only done the -muffler. I am allready getting bored, regretting choosing the auto. Sounds like a unichip might be the answer!
  7. Back to the topic.... I had my muffler taken off my ute last week. It sounds better when you are getting up it a bit, no drone when cruising on the highway, just a little when your accellerating. It sounds pittyful when cold when the idle is high. Sound like an with half an exhaust??? I would say it's definately worth $100 though. haven't really noticed any difference in performance, but with only 1000k's on the clock, I'm not really testing it. Did anyone elses XR come with a terribly rattley section of the exhaust or heat shield? Somewhere around the footwell. I am reluctant to show anyone my new car because it sounds so bad.
  8. Easy mistake TurboTom. The ute has a lot more grip than you would think! Still heaps of fun though. I have had mine for three weeks now and no rain, damn it.
  9. I did and I rated myself as a 4.5. So a below average auto driver will beat an above average manual driver around a circuit. I don't think so. Beez, first of it all depends on what you rate yourself against does it not? If you say (not knowing what you rate yourself) your an 8.5 then if compared to Michael Schumacca ( yes I know its spelt wrong) then you shouldn't be in a road going car except when on the way to the next F1 meet. that's why I rated myself a 4.5. And when it comes to driving its amazing what you don't know about what you don't know. Iggnorance to ones abilities is the biggest mistake any driver can make. Think your bullet proof and watch your self crash. But ofcourse that is just my opinion. And Mr Walker seemed to get the gist of what I meant, shame you didn't. Dave. Terribly sorry XR6TK1W1. For some reason I thought you were saying you fancied your own driving when you said this... Ive pushed the old SSS function hard on my bird and eat most manuals outta tight corners for the fact if you time it right you can whack for first and just as you come off the brakes it hits 1st and boom away into the wild blue wonder just a mater of timing like a manual. You may have better ratios, but it would take a very good manual driver to out do me on a track, and I'd bet most of you manual guys wouldn't be up to it. Don't know what I was thinking When I asked you to rate yourself, it wasn't a one on one rating against Schuey. As I said average being 5. Therefore you are saying, overall, you are a BELOW AVERAGE driver. And as you have said above, you think MOST of the manual drivers couldn't beat you around a track. But thanks for the continuing tips and pointers on how to drive my auto.
  10. Gilto 2. People talk about automatics being quicker over the quarter mile, this is true! However, it is only true when you are refering to cars running sub 11 seconds!! Anything slower (I.e XR6 Turbo) and a properly driven manual is quicker. Why is 11 seconds the magic number? Wouldn't it depend on the type of gearboxes in question? I mean a strong, shift kitted T350 with a high stall, is going to be quicker than a three on the tree in the same car.

  12. Thanks VIK. I am happy too, it's just hard to find something to whinge about.
  13. Thanks for making me sound like a tool VIK351 I guess the delay bothers me because it does have an effect on the overall "responsiveness" of the car. It reminds me that there is a computer between me and the car.
  14. Did anyone buy their auto or manual because they thought it was quicker? I bought the auto because the manual had a shift like my mum's combi. Sorry to say it, but sometimes I wish I just got a manual xr8 I can't stand the delay in the downshift when braking with the auto. And, XR6TK1W1, did you rate youself in the "Rate Yourself" post. Remember the scale only goes up to 10.
  15. I'm easy
  16. Queensland Raceway track day would be nice.

    Rate Yourself

The value in this is to determine how good people think they are, not to get an indication of how good they actually are. Stand by for my next thread which will include a downloadable, fully interactive driving skills package.

Insurance maybe higher in Sydney due to the higher risk of theft. I only see third party property as being mandatory. Before getting the XR6T, I drove a Silvia Turbo which I bought for $14000. Some insurance companies wanted over $5000 to insure it. I backed my driving level and told them to stick it. That being said, I still shat myself everytime I parked the thing in public!

    Rate Yourself

Just as a matter of interest of mine and BCL, how would you rate your driver skill level? Consider risk taking, accident avoidance, driving lines, awareness, etc. Between 1 and 10 with five being average - I would rate myself a 7.

    Xr6t Vs Wrx

BCL - if you read my second reply, you would see that I am just a simple man with a simple sense of humour. I actually agreed with just about everything you have said so far. As for the insurance, premiums are worked out on averages for each car. Not on each individuals driving history, that's what insurance is all about. If you feel you are better than the average suby driver, and you're being ripped of, don't get insurance. Given the average age of XR6T drivers, and the poor record of the younger average WRX driver, I doubt we will paying similar premiums in the future. As far as how would XR6T drivers rate themselves, you just gave me an idea for a thread

To be honest, I have never driven a WRX. Just stirring the pot.

Till Subaru bring out a WRX Brumby my ute has no competition. B) Everyone seems to be airing their opinion, so I will to. The XR6T is better, simple really. And EZY10Z, if you think the Falcon feels floaty at 170 or 180 kph pulling into corners, you obviously don't have the driving skills to be safely driving at that speed. If you need to feel more secure at that speed, maybe you should be driving a Formula Ford. It would make any suby feel like a bucket of s#*t. As far as the insurance premiums go, they are high for a reason, Suby drivers aren't getting "ripped off". They simply cost more to fix and have more accidents. What doesn't add up is that most WRX drivers would rate themselves as being above average drivers. Having more grip does not make you a better driver.
