I have premium brakes on my T.. just went in for my 20,000k service, and was told that I needed new discs already!!! They also said the pads had 2mm left on them. Is it possible that the pads have outlasted the discs? Ford quoted me $1,950 for new front discs & pads. I thought way too much!! Anyone have suggestions on where I can source premium discs & pads from? ?

just had my serial numbes taken off my diff also, told my CRC that the updated diff is only around a week away from being fitted to my T. Will update with details

yes, you will be fed the usual crap from Ford, no doubt! Things like.. "..yours is not as bad as others they've seen.." and "... its just how this type of car is.." and "...its under Ford specifications.." And if your really lucky, they might even put the car up on hoists, show you underneath the car, and feed you more crap, trying to convince you that "everything is ok", when its clearly NOT! good luck anyway!

After being told the clunks & shunts are part of my T, I decided to lodge my complaint with NGE. (www.notgoodenough.org). (Ford listed at No 7) I urge all you T drivers who have been told the same story from Ford, to take your complaint further (NGe, consumer affairs etc). This is simply not good enough from FORD, and the more people who make complaints, the better chance we have of gettting this widespread problem resolved. It has really really angered me to hear from others on this forum, that some T owners have absolutely no noise from their manuals, after I was told by a Ford engineer that its a "normal characteristic" of the vehicle to clunk & shunt. Not good enough!

does anyone in melbourne have manual T, with no driveline noise at all? If so, please pm me, as I would like to meet up, so I can see what the manuals SHOULD be like. thanks guys

does anyone know of a good driveline specialist in melbourne??

On Friday, I had my xr6t inspected by Luke (engineer from Ford), to determine if the excessive noise, backlash, clunking in the driveline (whatever you wanna call it), was excessive. After taking my manual T for a drive, he said "sorry, that's the way they are", and advised nothing could be done. Hopeless. He also said that mine was one of the better ones he had seen. I really do feel sorry for the other T owners if mine is one of the better ones. I have lodged my complaint with NotGoodEnough, and they are considering listing it on the top 10 gripes. As a disappointed manual xr6T owner, I feel this is the only option I have to get something done about this widespread problem. Ford simply turn their back. I urge all manual T drivers, who experience the same problem, to lodge their complaint with www.notgoodenough.org, in an attempt to get this resolved. The more complaints the better chance we have.

The diff is just one of the many problems I've had... 1.Leaking coolant (o-ring replaced) 2.Clicking power steering rack 3.Stalling 4.Idle fluctuation (sometimes holds at 2,000rpm) 5.Diff Replaced twice (shunt & backlash) 6.Airbag light flashing on & off 7.Front passenger seat bolts loose 8.Dent next to front passenger scuff plates (had to get re-painted) 9.Spoiler not painted properly (and I paid for prestige paint) 10. Loosing clutch fluid (I dont know where its going, but it keeps getting lower!) 11. Broken cup holder 12. Front power-window module broken Thanks Ford
-
JB, You have described it just how I would! It's definately more predominant at slower speeds, esp when changing gears.. I have to change gears slower, let the clutch out slower, that seems to minimise the noise a bit..
-
Ford keep replacing the diff (I've had 2 replacements), and it's a waste of time. Its an obvious design flaw in the entire drive shaft assembly. I consider it highly dangerous too, esp in the wet, when going around corners, because you can feel the car being pushed forward.... Im up for signing the petition any day! I didnt think I ticked the "Diff Clunk" option when I purchased the car.. must have been a freebie :(

Too many manual XR6T drivers notice this excessive backlash and shunt... and it is unacceptable that Ford allow's this to continue... I drove out of the dealership at Knox yesterday, after getting my 2nd diff, and what did I hear? "clank clank clank"! BRAND NEW DIFF! haha It's an absolute joke really.. never buying from Ford again. I have wasted my time & money going backwards and forwards from Knox, and im really sick of it... And then theres more time & money wasted, calling Ford customer service (13FORD), and then the dealership.. backwards and forwards again.. Ford treat u like their diffs/driveline shunt... .. backwards and forwards.. clank clank clank.. DISCRACE FORD.. DISCRACE

Clank goes the driveline.. Clank clank clank
-
haha the clanking and backlash is unfortunately always there.. and if its doing it now (almost brand new), think about how bad it will be at 100,000k's!... DISCRACE FORD, DISCRACE!
-
Dont get a manual... although I can drive the vehicle without making TOO much noise, it just shouldnt shunt & backlash. Ive had 2 replacment diff's and it is still clanking & backlashing.. its a discrace on Ford's part really.. when you pay 64k for a BRAND NEW car, you expect a reliable, quiet drive shaft! last time im buying a ford...
-
I experience the backlash and the driveline shunt too.. and although my diff has been replaced twice, it continues to happen. I put it down to extremely poor engineering in the driveline/diff. It is very dangerous when downshifting at low speeds. Ford should act on this immediately, and stop acting like theres no problem. It is widespread with the manual gearboxes.
-
Just had my 2ns replacement diff in; still lots of backlash.. im kinda getting used to feeling the kick in the back from the shunt. Its an absolute discrace that this widespread problem with the manuals, is allowed to go on! SHAME ON YOU FORD!
