    BRAKE SHUDDER ISSUE

After reading through this thread, it sounds like even if Ford replace the disks on our XR6 there is a big chance that the brake vibration will be back pretty quickly. This leads me to a question about the DBA brakes. I like the idea of getting a set of DBA slotted rotors and it sounds like they will both increase braking performance and be less likely to warp. However I have no idea how to go about getting them. What is the best way to go about it? Do you go to a specialist brake shop where they can fit them etc? Do you need to upgrade the brake pads as well? I really don't have a clue how to go about it. :blank: Also, approximately, what sort of cost is involved to go to these DBA slotted rotors (including fitting etc). The XR6 goes in on Tuesday (to the Ford Dealer, to get them to look at the brakes) so any advice / comments you can give before then would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

    BRAKE SHUDDER ISSUE

Turbo6man: The reason why I don't want the disks machined is because we have already had the disks machined at around 7000km. The fact that we have had the disks machined and that the problem has come back (worse than ever) suggests to me that machining the disks again will only be a temporary fix, and in another few thousand kays or so, the problem will be back. Also, it sounds like the second time the shudder appears it is much worse than the first time. This is certainly the case with our XR6. The car moves around violently under all braking. Like ed-au-ba-xr6 said, it's going to require a lot of machining to get it smooth again.

    BRAKE SHUDDER ISSUE

This sounds very similar to our car. We had the shudder at around 7500km (I think) then got the disks machined, was fine. Now at 16,000km its back and it’s shocking. Even at speeds of around 60km/h it shudders like hell. For the record the car gets driven about 70/30 city driving to highway driving and the car is a manual. Its booked in at Ford next week, will be interesting to see what they do. As we have said we don't want them machined...
  5. The only CD-RW I have is the one that came with my Burner (Samsung DVD / Burner Combo) its a 4x - 10x Speed CD-RW.
  6. I tried out a re-writeable CD the other day in our XR6 (standard audio) and it worked fine. Sounds pretty odd BlueXR6Turbo. How old is the re-writeable CD you are trying to use BlueXR6Turbo?
  7. harasn, you say this exhaust sounded to loud for you likings. How loud was it (in car) compared to a stock XR6-T? Does it sound the same as an XR6-T? Personally I would like the N/A XR6 to sound a bit beefier and a bit different from the stock 6 cyl (Yes I know its got the stock 6 cyl - but hey it is an XR!, it shouldn't sound the same as the stock 6 cyl ). However I too don't want the sound to be too excessive and an intrusion. My understanding was the XR6-T sounded beefier than the standard 6 cyl but not over the top. I was just hoping that a lot of this was down to the exhaust setup and hence it could be added to the non-turbo 6 to help improve performance and make it sound a bit nicer. Anyhow its great to see someone actually trying out different options on the N/A XR6. I would say there are quite alot of people monitoring your progress to work out what the best way is to go, in regards to exhaust options on the non-turbo 6. So thanks for your work harasn.
  8. Yeah that's just a total joke OwnaXR6T. No doubt these braking problems with BA's are warrenty issues and should be fixed by Ford under the warrenty. It will be very interesting to see if this problem comes back. If it does I expect Ford to cover it under warrenty as well. However I expect it will be a nice fight to get it done though! We will see...
  9. It will be interesting NT TURBO to see if this problem comes back. If it happens again we will certainly not be paying to have it fixed. Lets hope Ford finds a fix to this real soon.
  10. On our XR6 NA the only problems have been: 1. The keyless entry remote stoped working. Known problem with the software on the keyless remote. Ford are reprogramming keyless remotes when you get your car serviced. Beware though, they need both sets of keys! 2. Problem with the drivers side power window. It didn't want to stop at the top and would BANG into the top! 3. Brake Shudder. Noticed around the 10,000km mark however was getting worse and Ford re-machined the disks at 13,000 km. Ours is a very early build XR6 and I was expecting there to be a few niggling faults. The main thing for me is that these faults are fixed under warrenty, without the dealer whinging about it. I am happy to say that all of these faults have been dealt with very swiftly by Ford and hence they haven't worried me.
  11. that's interesting information there Harasn. We just had our brakes re-machined on the XR6 at 13,000 kays(noticed the problem was getting worse and worse). For the record the dealer didn't complain or whinge about it and, immediatly accepted the problem and fixed it. It will be interesting to see if the problem comes back. Your explanation Harasn makes alot of sence to me. Our XR6 does spend alot of its time highway driving and I feel that we are generally pretty light users on the brakes. Perhaps I should start braking harder.

  16. Yep me too Turbo-6. The site had been down for a few days now it appears to be running again.
  17. Congrats Falchoon! It looks awesome (not that I am biased to Venom Red BA XR's or anything like that :D ). Happy Motoring! Same with the XR8. On the XR8's you get a red '8' logo on the badges. However on all Venom Red XR8's the '8' on the badges are black.
  18. I have tried twice and haven't got any pics yet... Glad its not just me who has problems. I presume the problem is the website and not the dealer as we have had our XR6 since early November.
  19. Hi MavSS, the first time I saw a BA XR in red I was shocked how much it stood out. In the metal they look great. I have posted some pics in the tread mentioned above XR6 Pics

    Xr6 Colours

Mal I too am not a big fan off Red. However the first time I saw a Barra XR in red I couldn't believe how good it looked. The colours that stood out to me were Red, White and Silver. The only manual with an LSD that was comming in for a few weeks was red (still had about a month wait), hence why I drive a Red XR6 . One thing I have found with this colour is that it is very hard to photograph, quite often it looks too light or even pinkish. This pic was taken late in the day and it just seemed to come out perfectly. Like all Barra's, the pics do not do them justice. They look better in the metal. Here is a pic from the back I took at the same time.

Just found this tread... Here are some pics of the Venom Red XR6 (non turbo :( ) I drive.
  22. that's great you can obtain pics of the car as its being built. I have the pics of the old XR6 VCT being built however I couldn't find how to get pics for the Barra. Thanks for the link CJF077
  23. Your reactions to the gearbox are almost identical to mine! Comming from an AUII XR6 VCT manual, the gearbox feels much nicer - esp. the positioning of the shifter and its throw. It also tends to shift sweeter. The only complaint I have with the gearbox is that reverse is sometimes hard to select. Also the clutch is much lighter than the one on the old XR6 - Although this is for the non Turbo and the Turbo may have a heavier clutch. I too am also a little disapointed with the pedal placement too :(. In the old XR6 the pedal placement was perfect for heal and toe downshifts, in the new Barra it is very difficult to make smooth heal and toe downshifts - something to work on. :D Got to love Manual Gearboxes! - Now if only it was a Turbo :(
