Hi All, Wondering if anyone can assist with a problem that I have, My original piping began to soften and eventually leak so I decided it was time to upgrade the piping. Sent the Mrs down to BPT Motorsport while I was at work to get a stage 2 kit only to find that it was out of stock, for a little extra money we were offered a stage 3 kit, money is tight at the moment so we inquired if it would fit the standard cooler and were told yes, and that there are reducers included in the kit. Got home and went to fit it all up and it soon became apparent that there were no short pipes to connect the reducers to the rest of the kit. Following day BPT Motorsport said they'd make up the pipes for free (which I am incredibly grateful for) and went to fit it all together, every piece of piping fits in well, only problem now is that the bumper wont fit. Around the foglights its too wide and this is preventing the bar to fit properly, I've tried adjusting all pipes, pushing the alloy piping further into the silicone pieces, even tried cutting down the pipes that BPT made up for me, all to no avail. My question is, does anyone know if the stage 3 piping kit will work with a standard cooler, perhaps I am missing something? Or are there any tips or tricks to get it all to work? Many thanks in advance. Cheers, Marc

Hi Guys, There is one airflow sensor before the elbow leading into the throttle body, I very gently cleaned it to avoid damaging it, I have not had it read for fault codes yet and it hasn't been tuned, previously it was an ex police car though I doubt that has anything to do with it, the problem started after I installed the CAI, it would only idle roughly when cold then it went away and now it prefers to stall but has perfect idling, I did try spraying some carby / throttle body cleaner around all the vac lines to see if it changed the RPMS noticeably but nothing changed at all, haven't tried the manifold gasket as yet, the idea never occurred to me. Average speed is gone as I reset the computer this morning, however the drive to work is a steady 70k's the whole way stopping at only a few lights, I coast gently to a red light until it turns green and then gently continue my drive to work, same for the drive back. Just reading more posts and noticed that other people are getting 15l/100k's so I am convinced that the fuel consumption isnt a problem, plugs are yet to be changed (80000k's on the clock currently) and all other service procedures have been carried out as per the manual. Cheers Marc

Hi All, Was wandering if anyone can assist with a problem my FG is having. The problem is the car tends to stall, the idle is at a little over 500rpm and it idles quiet smoothly, however if I jab the throttle and let it go, the idle drops below 500 and will occasionally stall, not a problem in my driveway however when I drive on one particular hill and try to move up a little bit, the car will most times stall leaving me with no power on the hill, a little scary at times as the cars behind have no clue that I can't move! It also is quiet bad at slow speeds (Christmas light hunting) and in peak traffic and on a VERY rare occasion at idle the car hunts up and down as if it has a vac leak. Things I have tried that did not fix the problem. 1. Cleanout of throttle body and all intake piping. 2. Cleaning of MAF sensor 3. Removal of BOV and a few other BOV. 4. Inspection of ALL vac lines (no leaks evident) Another problem I am having (though im not sure if related) is high fuel usage even when taking it easy (currently sitting over 13l/100) and that's very conservative driving. Only mods thus far is a CAI (90 degree bend off the turbo, 3 inch pipe), Center muffler removal and aftermarket BOV. engine wise the rest of the car is stock. Any help at all will be greatly appreciated as I am wits end here!! Cheers Marc

Adding Rca Pre-outs To Icc Guide Is Here
marcthelegend replied to quadie's topic in Audio/Visual Workshop
I noticed a little earlier on in the thread that this has been tried with an FG falcon, but the volume was very low, has anyone else with an FG tried this?? I am currently planning a stereo install on my FG but having read this now, I think this may be the way to go rather than fabricating a mount for an aftermarket deck! Would the FG stereo be a similar setup to the BA/BF?? Cheers Marc -
T19 Globe Fell Into Headlight - Crap !
marcthelegend replied to Skidude's topic in Electrics Workshop
I had this happen in my pajero, which made it more difficult as the lens is diffused for the park light, but I did find that a little magnetic pick up tool (4 dollars from k-mart) allowed me to grab the metal contacts and after a few attempts, I managed to get it out no problems Hope this helps. just searching ebay for car stuff (as usual) and stumbled upon this beauty of an ad, very funny ramblings etc. lol Link: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Ford-Falcon-2008-FG-XT-Prince-Phenom-/250820377372?pt=AU_Cars&hash=item3a660f3b1c Cheers Marc

I have the Uniden 015SX in my pajero, it is great as it has the remote head, I have the unit mounted under the dash and the display is screwed into the dash. It doesn't (in Perth) get any ambulance / fire / police channels (all digital AFAIK) but talking between car to car and listening to security services its great for, the rural police are still on the old analogue signal, though they will all eventually change over anyway. In terms of Antennas, I have 3 to choose from, one a 4db gain, other 6db and the last a 9db.. the higher the db rating the more narrow the signal, the lower the db rating the more round the signal is, higher db is great for flat terrain but on hilly terrain you'd be better with a 4db or 6db antenna. the 4db is only around 30cm tall but the 6db and 9db are over a meter in size. Just my 2 cents worth Cheers Marc

I did notice this too, not too sure why it has a bit of a note to it, was previously an ex-cop car .. something they have done? though I do doubt that, this exhaust has 70000 k's on it .. perhaps the centre muffler was already dying? though I did find a clip with a similar sound on youtube, uploaded said his was stock too.. though no-one believed him lol Heres the vid. Cheers Marc

Hi Barra, I find that when first starting up, the car is quiet loud, idles quiet raspy, a truly sporty sound, once moving the sound is amazing also, one of my mates is now comparing it to a V8 supercar lol, because its a bit of a rough sporty sound, which burbles / pops VERY nicely when decelerating and also makes a quiet, yet noticable backfire sound when changing gears. Not sure if the backfiring this is bad or not, after some reading someone says that the car has a spark cut feature to help the transmission, whether or not that's true I don't know? But I find it doesnt happen when running premium, but was a tad short with cash and ran 91 from coles :( Cheers Marc

Icc, Heater And Other Electrical Issues...
marcthelegend replied to gregmarr's topic in Electrics Workshop
Hi Greg, If your handy with a screwdriver and have a bit of patience, instead of paying someone to repair the door lock actuator, you can actually DIY repair it, I did this on 3 doors from the Mrs car (yes 3 out of 4 doors died!) and took me a little over 15 mins on the first one and around 10 on the other 2. Overall a very simple task once you get the hang of it and a fair bit cheaper than an auto elec. would charge. Would be interesting to hear how it sounds with a high flow cat, maybe one day That's with just the pipe welded in (see pic), sounds like a proper sports exhaust, for a fraction of the cost, definitely can confirm the original post fits the FG as well, no drone, sounds unreal, burbles / pops nicely on decelleration. Got a few more vids on the way to dinner tonight, took the highway there to get some clips of just crusing along / harsh acceleration. Enjoy! Accelerating with windows down - Accelerating with windows up - Cruising at 100kph - Cruising at 60kph - Gunning it - Cheers Marc

Hello, After much reading about removing the centre muffler and this very post, I decided to bite the bullet and get this mod done, got it done at Mettams Mufflers in Kelmscott for a neat little sum of just $100.00, listening to them rev the car while it was on the hoist was awesome, the drive home just as good. Best 100 dollars I have spent on the car, highly recommend this one to all, decided to put up a before/after of the exhaust. Enjoy! Before - After -

Fg Ford Wiper Blade Replacement
marcthelegend replied to PSI40T's topic in Interior & Exterior Workshop
Been having alot of trouble with my wiper blades constantly 'jumping' across the window. A set of SuperCheap refills = more jumping, A set of Repco refills = jumping, A set of tridon = jumping. Driving through the rain today with barely working wipers was not fun so off to Kmart and bought a new set of wiper blades and refills, cost me a grand total of $7.50, found that the passenger side FG from factory is smaller than drivers, oh well the new ones are both full sized and the passenger side fits with 3mm to spare :D Gave them a go and they worked really well, have had NO jumping whatsoever, good value considering I spent over 50 dollars on the other brands and the new ones are so cheap and good (aunger brand) also the extra wiping length is a bonus. Fuel Filter Change Highly Recomended
marcthelegend replied to Adrian6T's topic in Fuel System & Induction Workshop
Did mine today, certainly helped having done this on my previous 2 N/A ba's, took all of about 1 minute to remove the old filter, the bolts were tight, but not overly tight. As suggested here earlier, it certainly helped wedging the spanner against the chassis rail, then you have both hands to pull on the 14mm spanner. Fuel that drained out from the tank side was a lovely brown color, but when I ran tap water through the filter, it was clear?? anyway, took it for a drive, felt a tad stronger but not a world of difference, filter had an 8 on it, so im assuming its the original filter from 2008 (66xxx k's on it). Looking forward to the next one in 50,000k's or so! Marc -
The color you are after I believe is SNB 150 DESERT ROSE MET... here is a pic of it Cheers Mare

Just did this on my FG. Was extremely easy to do and took less that 10 minutes and around 8 dollars, basically all I did was cut the factory pipe (going from BOV to crossover) in the middle and on the intake side I put a 25mm poly pipe stopper on (with a hose clamp). On the turbo side, I did the same think but drilled a 4mm hole in the end of the stopper and again fastened with a hose clamp. While looking through the shed I noticed I had more polypipe stoppers and decided to make 2 more. Stopper 1 - 4mm hole .. makes a nice sch tutututututut sound. Stopper 2 - 8mm hole .. makes a schhh sound as well as tutututu sound (both in sync) Stopper 3 - 13mm hole .. makes a schhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh sound .. which seems to go for ages! My favourite one would have to be the 8mm hole one, I find myself dropping the throttle a bit more to get the sound but it sounds sweet, havent got any pics as of yet, but it really takes only 2 minutes of time to change from one to the other Hope this inspires someone else Marc

Hi, Took it in to ford today to have a number of things looked at. 1. Mirror temp probe was reading 28 degrees on a 40 degree day - replaced under warranty. 2. Scrape from front right wheel when turning left - they said they couldnt replicate the noise, but I heard it loud and clear on the drive home, I have removed the caliper / pads and found no stones, but did notice a 0.5-1mm deep gouge right around the disc. 3. Knocking when accelerating anywhere over 3000rpm - Fixed, unless I accelerate up past 4000rpm (quiet rare) so not worried about it, also its much less than before. 4. Grinding noise from diff - apparently this noise is normal for all Ford FG xr6t's .. anyones make a whirring / grinding noise when cruising (not when coasting or accelerating) the noise is noticable with the radio on moderately loud. All up cost me 120 dollars for them to tighten the suspension (apparently most support bolts were either loose or almost about to fall out) the guy behind the counter said that the suspension bolts are to be checked and tightened at ALL services (it was serviced less that 2000k's ago) and that it looks like it hasnt been done in a while. I had to pay to have the bolts re-done, even though it was ford's fault it was like that in the first place, obviously a mechanic that had no clue on what he was doing? Would it be wise to email ford head office demanding a refund (the service centre said they would be unable to complete the work for free) becuase it was due to the ford mechanics not doing their job properly that the car was in that condition?? Cheers Marc

anyone??

Hello everyone, I'm new around here, previously I have driven 2 N/A BA falcons and then an '05 Pajero, have recently got myself an '08 FG XR6T which is an absolutely awesome car, has so many more features than the pajero, kinda puts it to shame haha. Anyway, it was an ex highway patrol car and mechanically it runs great, it has a mountain load of power and no unusual engine noises at all. The only problems that I can find are that when accelerating quiet hard, between any gear change above around 3000rpm, it makes a rather loud clunk (the best way to describe the noise is kinda like when the mud flaps hit a speed bump) I have had a look underneath and cannot find anything out of the ordinary (though I am no mechanic, I always give everything a go). I was wondering if someone on here may have a suggestion on what it may be? The other problem is a sort of grinding noise that happens when crusing, it goes away when accelerating and goes away when coasting and happens in any gear, was thinking maybe the diff?? the other noise is a metallic rattle that happens only when turning left and happenes from the front right wheel, I suspect a loose rotor shield cover thing (forgot what its proper name is), just have to get around to taking the wheel off and having a look. Also, anyone know what mods (if any) the cops may have left on (bigger alternator perhaps?) I am looking forward to joining in with the forum and getting the mods started, however think I will have to do some saving to keep up with others on here.. as yet the only mod is a dash mat and new front speakers lol. I was thinking of doing a mod to the factory airbox which would be similar to the one on my BA, whereby I cut a hole in the front of the box and run a piece of rectangle shaped plastic gutter pipe under the headlight, I remember this giving my BA a quiet but nice roar under heavy throttle, see if I can achieve this on the FG!! :D Cheers Marc

would love to do that, but I imagine it would cost alot, unless someone knows where and how much it is?? My car does it even when no music is running, no lights, no nothing, so im a little puzzled by this, my last ba didnt do it unless I put on high beams / spotties and lots of music and the battery was in poor condition, would like to see if anyone else has this problem, and hopefully someone out there found a fix for it Cheers Marc

My car does the exact same thing, really really annoying because you worry that it will die, although mine hasnt died YET, mines an auto, and when stopping at a set of lights, it shakes and rolls backwards (engine looses power). If anyone has a solution to this, it would be great to know, replaced my battery recently, still no good. Cheers. Marc

Hey Guys, Saw that supercheap auto had a percentage off mesh, so I thought I would upgrade the cars looks somehow and bought one. Got home, and pulled the front grille apart, cut the mesh to size and painted it blue, cut out all the old grille (plastic bit with the ford badge on it) and with very great difficulty, managed to get it all back together, glued the ford badge back onto it, and put it back on the car! Took a around 2 hours to complete, but think it looks awesome, just wanted to get some feedback from you guys to see what you all think Cheers Marc

Finally got around to removing the rear muffler (have a spare exhaust lying around in the backyard so thought wth). Took around 2 hours to complete and the end result is sweet! Droning is ALMOST non-existant (surprisingly) and you can really hear it blowing air at WOT which sounds sweet, car seems quicker at higher RPMs too sounds like a V8!! VROOM! Just thought I would post a very quick rev vid. Marc
