Sorry didnt explain in full when I said Plazmaman plenum would be easy to fit up. Should of said with use of BA-BF lower runners as the head seems to have same bolt pattern, may need to alter manifold runners to match the staggered ports though.
-
Love the car. That new plenum entry to me looks crap, sharp 90 bend. That is my only dislike. Looks easier to fit a Plazmaman Plenum upto and it will be a good thing. Whats with the cone just before the turbo? Is it like a exspansion chamber or some other reason.

Agree a good detailer can remove it, but at what cost to the thickness of the paint. So you would prefer to have half your top coat removed to get rid of the swirls than to have it recleared back to a longer lasting and more protecting finish. Whats so bad about reclearing it anyway? Where did I say the car my wife scratched the bonnet on was white. It was the factory bronze. And if you think looking at it from a balcony would not look like swirls then try it yourself before you state otherwise. Couldn't tell they where scratches as it was done by a dish cloth scourer you know the ones with the green scourer on one side and spounge the other. if she had used a metal scourer then from the balcony you would have made out that it was scratched. What happens to paint with no clear coat? Does it not fade quickly and deteriorate. So with a good bufffing would you not agree you are removing the protective clear coat? The thinner the clear coat the less protection on the base coat and not to mention the paint depth will never look as deep and glossy again unless it is recleared? As stated, this is my opinion and anyone can take it or leave it. Use your brain and research the facts from sh*t before making final decissions.

that's the bolt to keep the wheel from moving around in the spare wheel well.

Yeh had a better look at specs and agree. just seen one and thought how easy to sit in glove compartment. So what is the best place for me to purchase the required items to do this setup. keep in mind Iam in SE QLD. Anyone out there that can help me with a install, will pay to do it, just give me a quote and we can go from there. Cash job. Urgent before I spend my money on other things.

Just get your money back. My thought! If it has swirls through it, it will not be fixed unless it gets a cut and polish which will thin your paint and your paint finish wont last as long due to the clear top coat not being able to protect as well. If they re-clear coat it it should be alright but they wont as it is a costy exercise to do properly do. They will have it look a million dollars for you but it will be a hidden fix up. I have bought a few used cars in my time only to find when I first wash them the cover up polish is removed and you can find numerous faults. Find out the life expectancy of the paint and ask it they will give you a written warranty that covers the paint to last as long as per expected. Get some Respray quotes and get them to drop the sale price accordingly then have it resprayed straight away. Iam referring for a full panel disassembly and re-clear coat. However they may decide to refund you as they will be able to flog it to some other unknowing individual at full price. That is my thoughts on the situation but best thing would be to talk to a expert spray painter and get his view. What ever they do about it I feel it would be a cover up. Do as someone suggested in wash a panel and check it for swirls. Also look for light patches incase they cut the clear back too far and remove any base colour. being R-Spec chances are you may not get another black one so try to have them discount sale price so you can have it re-clear coated. Get quotes from reputable spray painters first. The worst thing is they may pay another cheap panel shop to buff/cut swirls out (We'll sort it I have a great little 15yo apprentise that can do it) And what you will end up with is a car that has been buffed down to metal and will require a full respray. get the discount, dont let them ruin it anymore, then have it re-cleared by a reputable spray painter. If they dont budge on the price enough, tell them you will seek legal advice before accepting a refund. may get them to give you a better discount doing so. They wont want court costs adding to their loss. Good luck, dont let them dictate the result. at worst there will be more special models available but you will just have to be patient. a little off your subject but still talking swirls. I nearly cried once. My wife , girl friend at time decided to wash one of my first cars (A 73 TC cortina 6 near imaculate) as a surprise while I was sleeping in on a Saturday after a hard weeks work. Anyway she wakes me up and tells me to come outside. I look down from the balcony above car and can see swirls on bonnet. Go down to have a closer look and NO, look in bucket to find a dish cloth, one with the scourer on one side. She had someway accidently used the wrong side. I was not happy and have never let her every again wash my cars since approx 1988. And yes she is blonde.

How sad and not that old. Atleast he built a world wide repution people could look up to. I named my 4 yo son Boyd after him. RIP Boyd Coddington

Orsm set up Adam. Wish you where local SE QLD as would pay you to hook up my car. looking at Asus Eee Pc notebook to use. Only problem is it has not DVD drive. I have a mini 120g HD which Iam thinking to use as can lstore media on it due to the small 4-8 gig hard drive. This notebook is suppose to be very well designed to carry around obsorbing bumps and knocks. On special at JB Hi-Fi for $460 ish. I take it I will require all parts you have used on your setup to make this function. If anyone is competent in hooking up one on the South East QId please PM me. Cheers Paul What do you think of going this way.

To get more caster, can it be achieved by removing front camber shims. I have been wondering if pedders may have not setup enough castor.
-
The tyre choice was made due to the fact that the Yoko's on the front where very good directional and I went for the toyo on rear for there drive grip. The balance is quite good with being able to correct and control understeer or provoke oversteer. I feel it maybe the lack of camber being the issue with the slight tendancy to understeer. Also the fact the front gets very light under full accelleration due to the excelent grip of the toyo proxy's. Before I purchased the current rubber I looked everywhere for a semi slick tyre I could use on the street that fit 19's but no luck. I would need to purchase 18's or smaller to fit semi slicks. May do this a little down the track. May just have to pass evo's on the outside line or sling shot out from behind them exiting corners. As for pedders setting up suspension I may agree as it is hard to keep straight on roads that camber off or have truck grooves. May not have enough toe in unless it is steering from the rear soft oem bushes (Maybe the center diff bush). say at 200 to 240 I need approx 1 1/2 lanes. this was not the case prior to the pedders being fitted mine you car is making extra 25rwkw as well since orig suspension. Car is extremely good under brakes and turn in but has the mild understeer under hard accelleration. So way it is working it pays to brake deep and power exiting corners not brake early and power through. Late breaking power on exit needs fine throttle so not to provoke major oversteer when exiting a corner. Maybe if I increased rear spring pressure it may reduce weight transfer to rear. What is your thoughts ? Who can suggest a good suspension shop in SE QLD that I can talk to about making improvements.
-
Yeh I have adjustable camber and I didn't click, When I hit the track I will just pull a couple of shims to give more camber. That will fix the mild understeer. Now come to remember Pedders did say they set it up for tyre wear more than handling. Which I didnt mind as Iam running Yoko's (Cant recall model) up front and Toyo Proxy 4's at rear and cost me a good dollar.
-
Thanks for your imput. Think I will not worry about sway bars as it handles pretty good dry and wet. Just have to live with the fact I cant out handle a smaller car on the inside line. I will see how it goes next track outing and decide weather to try some if not happy with how it performs.
-
I HAVE A ba xr6t sedan manual fitted with pedders springs and dampers (adjustable height fronts). Dampers are self adjusting. Was wanting to fit Whiteline sway bars but someone has said it will skate all over the road in the wet if I do, due to my spring & dampers already on car. Has anyone found this to be true. What are my trade offs if I do fit sway bars? Is there any other decent brands available? Where is the best place to purchase Whiteline sway bars from at a good price? Car is well balanced but have found on one occassion having a run on the inside of a bend (track) at around 140 ish against a std evo 8 the front started to understeer. Would have passed him if I didnt have to off throttle & correct my line. Yes I know the EVO is smaller, lighter and built for cornering Iam running very good street rubber and Evo was running street rubber as well. Suggestions please on weather it is worth fitting bars or not, should I bother or just be content with what I already have.

Havoline Fully Syn Very good does not drip off dipstick even after 5000 k's. Using in 300rwkw car now for approx 12 months (changed every 5000k's). Hate changing it as it looks to good to throw to the eye. BA mk1 std internals. As you said, to new to put figures on. Even high end parts have life limits, just look at the exotic gear used in V8 supercars. They throw them away yet they still look new to the eye but because things can only handle so much for so long due to stress pressures. It will come down to how much power you are using and how often. My car has survived but if say I did some hot laps say once a month at a track it more than likely would have broken by now.
-
Oh Yessss How tuff are the specs. Does anyone know if it is using the new Air Bearing design turbo I suggested it would be using months ago. If it is, it means faster spool ups, hot shut downs wont hurt as testing had been quite substanial with the new design and most of all more power and efficency. You BA-BF phoon boys/girls will be pretty upset as the new XR6T may leave you sitting in there review. Dreading the release of the new phoon, how good is it going to be. Once I get my power over 450 rwkw I would thing Iam going to struggle against a std phoon due to this Launch Control. Wonder if there will be a way to fit and retune our cars to use Launch control.

Yep just had another look at the car and discovered them to turn on when indicator selected, When I inspected them I thought it was for turning corners due to the reflector angle design. Thanks everyone problem solved.
-
So are you saying they arnt driving lights but infact a indicator? Pretty sure I checked if they where indicators, will check again next time I see him. It did have Auto lights on light switch which we tried and nothing happened unless it only turns on while in motion.
-
A friend just bought a Fairmont Ghia 2004 mod, It has everything from memory set seat to elec adjustable pedals but there is no switch for the driving lights (Well not where the XR has the switch) There is no switch there at all and I have looked everywhere including the owners manual and can't find it anywhere. Can you point my friend in the right direction.

Hell yeh, the easter bunny is real, it comes to my house once a year, and man don't I have some fun with it, mind you looks alot like my women dressed in a bunny cosie.

One time I was out the back shed and I could hear my 2 yo boy crying so I yelled out leave him alone Natasha (his 3 yo sister) and that didn't work and buy this stage he was screaming, I walked up to fine him with a huntsman that covered his whole crown of his head. Father instink just gave a quick flick of the hand to knock him off. Another time asked the wife to get my tension wrench, as she approached she hits herself hard in the shoulder, What you doing stupid I say not realising she had this huge huntsman on her. She must have nearly broken her shoulder as it was a 150 ftlb warren & brown tension wrench. Her shoulder was bruised for over a week. And more scared of snakes, spiders are easy kill, besides used to be a big fan of Spiderman when I was a kid. Check this bite from a Wolf Spider, the Treating Doc had said he has to remove all infected flesh as there poison rots your flesh and it will continue to spread if any is missed.

So sad. Hope he didn't do it because of his split with his wife. Hope it was a accident. Great to see A Knights Tale & the Patriot dedicated to him on TV last night. Its a wonder no one has even popped that Shirley, If she is so rightious isnt it quoted in the bible somewhere that you are not to judge. For christ sake someone give her a life or a bullit or at least shove her picket up her ....better not say.

Are you sure on that as a relative had received one approximately 10-15 years ago. They received it on the then called F3 coming from Brisbane, was shown the ticket at time. Maybe it was a trail offence and it has been removed?. They should bring it back if it is currently not a road rule, may save alot of multi car pile ups on the freeways from happening. So what are the figures for road fatatilities caused by Eg Drunk On drugs Speeding Young All of the above or None of the above I bet the count for speeding would be less than all other related fatatilities. With the Drunk speeding driver being the most common. Followed by the drug F*cked speeding driver. Have you ever heard of a repeat DD getting there car taken off them. Hell you can keep doing all your life as long as you pay the fines. No worries here of losing your car, just some money and your licence which they will continue to drive without anyway. I suppose when you look at it there is a lot of revenue in it as when they catch them driving without a licence there fine is pretty decent. Hell a woman here in brisbane recently ran into someones car drove off from the scene and was pulled up later with a extremely high blood alchole level reading that was so bad it made the news. She gets a fine, doesn't have her car taken from her. Next week she will probably crash into a sweet looking F6 doing 60.1 kph in a 60 zone and the guy will have his car taken from him for speeding and she will get a that's ok, its ok as the more of these hoons off the road the better, here have some more booze money. I know I wont hand my car over to them for giving my tyre's a turn in anger leaving a set of lights as I will do all possible to not permit them from taking it I have a very good plan that will stop them from taking my car and sorry I can't explain as they may change the law if to many know. They want us off the street how about bringing back Operation Drag on a weekly basis. Set it up in say a industrial estate or out the back of it, it happens a lot in those places anyway. Shouldn't be much of a problem if cars are to stay within a road worthy state & meeting noise restrictions. Don't want to travel to Willowbank and have to pay for racing licence's and insurances to be able to have 3 to 4 runs down a strip once a month or longer.

Just let you all know what unmarked vehicles I have seen these revenue raising public servants in as of late here in Logan City QLD. 1 White S VY 1 White XR6 1 Maroone Toyota Camry 1 Maroone Honda Accord (Who would have suspected that) 1 Blue VE SS 1 Bronze orange VE SS My Brother has told me he has seen a XR5 and some vehicles that are even using personalised plates. Some years ago I had this guy in a car trying to edge me on buy sitting on my rear nailing it and backing off. What I could see was a car that had been done up in such a ridiculess maner, white ef /el with white head light protectors and crap hanging off it everywhere. You had to see it. I kept my cool as I thought it was to suss and sure enough he lost interest and powered past. Yep I was right, it was a try hard cop. Arnt speed limits based on worst case senario's eg 80 year old granny driving a prime mover with bald tyre's, brakes that work at half there safe level, with heavy rain. Now if they are safe to do 100 in a 100 zone why is it such a bad thing to do say 130 in a 100 zone in a say Typhoon fitted out with brembo's and stability & Traction control and not to mention the handling dynamics of a performnance car. Or even turn your tyre's taking off from the lights doing 10 kph. Why don't they enforce the speed limits for those useless idiots that cant drive at the posted speed limit like doing 80 in a 100 zone. Should be same fine for these idiots. Concidering how many times I have nearly had a accident because of them. These are usually the people that can't even enter a highway, they stop because they can't perform a merge. And if the Government really cared about road safty, don't you think a compulsary Driver Ed program through senior schooling would be a worth while program as other countries do. They are always quick to blame the hoons but what about the majority of fatal accidents over this christmas break was any hoon related. I recall seeing numerous news reports of accidents and not one was related to a person hooning. My Mother inlaw and her Boyfriend where involved in a Head on accident which was cause by him as he is one of these people that take a hour to get to the speed limit and he at the time of this accident was indecisive when turning through a intersection. Lucky that all they suffered was a head cut from the steering wheel and the mother inlaw a bruised chest. Not to sure how the other occupants of the other car have faired as yet but both cars where complete write offs. While the mother inlaw was in the hospital she kept insisting for me to drive her home as she would not trust anyone else. Strange as she knows very well how I drive and had always said how safe a driver her partner is. They stereotype us all as hoons because of the few uneducated young drivers that dont understand the danger of some of there actions. Its just REVENUE plain and simple.

Before I undo the wipers and windscreen cowl, I would like to know if anyone knowns if there is adjustment left to right at bolts that hold hinge to body shell. Reason being is I have bolted up a fibreglass bonnet and I have approx twice the size gap on the left gaurd to bonnet and need to move it over to equal it up. I have adjusted the gaurds as far as they can move and hinge to bonnet will only adjust front to rear. If the hinge to shell are not adjustable I will have to slot them to get the adjustment required. I would like to know this before I remove cowl and wipers.

Design A New Filter To Replace The Turbo Oil Supply Screen
01txr replied to stang's topic in Turbo Workshop
As I have mentioned before in another filter thread. I removed mine gave if a thorough clean with Solvent & compressed air. After repeating the cleaning 3 times I gave up as once I shone a led light through it, it was still badly clogged but when looking at it without the light it looked like it was spotless. I have done approximately 10 000k's since I removed it and have no signs of problems. I use Havoline Full Syn and also use Purolator filter (Don't quote on the spelling if wrong). These filters claim to be the best OEM replacement filter on the market. I checked the turbo filter after one night as car was feeling a bit sluggish coming on boost, and with a granny drive for approx 5 mins to home I lifted bonnet to find turbo was glowing. So removed the filter which was lucky as it would have destroyed turbo if I didn't catch it so soon. I checked turbo for any shaft wear and it is all good. I feel if you use a top quality filter and oil with 5000- 7500k oil & filter changes you will not have a problem. The best thing you could do is get rid of that oil restricting filter before you starve your turbo of oil.
