  1. The boss being Slow probably applies to standard autos. If you mod it or get someone who can actually drive a manual you will be surprised. Then again you could the SS and join the bogans
  2. I've driven harder to go get milk. I wouldn't be drawing any conclusions from that video other than the FG looks alright from the rear too !
  3. Tune only isn't really stock. With the stupid single spinner I am surprised anyone gets a 14 let alone a 12. I used to think it was no big deal but now it's loosened up it's damned annoying!
  4. good times, just to confirm, that's completely stock now ? I don't get how anyone gets any traction with these things. Even on the street without misbehaving too much I get lots of traction issues.

  8. I don't think he did particularly well, low 14s .. but it is quite modified ( I'd bet they don't come with a twin exhaust standard ). My guess is he was discovering the bum dragger launch issue Once he gets the launch worked out I would expect much lower times. As for Tiny, he is a big target and hard to miss !

  10. Beats me why the obsession with beating a GT-P... if it means anything the XR5 got caned by everything else. It's good to see someone out there having a go and it's something different !

    lol@all the guys that think stock XR8s are slow. I had to check under my feet to see if it was the BS piling up that was lifting them. Stock .. there is nothing in it .. modified, T all the way.
  13. The tyres were toyo proxes. Before anyone gets all excited about these 'mods' the driver is quite a hefty bloke who would make up for any of these perceived enchancements. I have to say that the V8 Blood is starting to thin. Not only is the typhoon cheaper than the GT it's also a lot faster .. and I like the wheels a lot more ... damn that's depressing
  14. I took my getech out on our last HPR day to check out the accuracy. It was very hit and miss. It read mostly a 10th slow on the ET but waaaaay high on the mph... it was saying that I was getting 110 mph from an alomst stock xr8 I wish. As for the magazines carrying on about the 1/4 mile .. the way a track is set up is THE definitive measure, not their correveit or some other GPS based thing. Their system is less accurate by virtue of not allowing rollout not the other way arround. They cannot claim to be more accurate when they have deviated from the accepted norm.
  15. the 290 has higher comp, different cams and valves and obviously different PCM values. There is no reason you couldn't put the 290 heads on a 260 but it would probably need an edit to get the best out of it. I don't know if the lower compression woudl have any real world benefit but I suspect that FPV / Ford didn't give the 290 higher comp just for the exercise. They are both assembled at the FPV .. probably by the same people.
  16. great times and a lot closer to what I would have expected . Damned fine 60 footer too.. I would love to see another stock phoon run those times to really set it in cement so no one can argue.
  17. XR8 clutch as supplied by ford is ~$1800. I can't imagine you would get much less than that for the XR6T. If you get forced to pay for one, get an aftermarket job and at least have a decent clutch.
  18. We are leaving Ford HQ and around 2.00pm if you want to cruise up with the main group.
  19. I use Studio 9 with the latest patch .. and also a SATA RAID array because I found the rendering process before making the video was maxing out my hard drive. The thing I like about S9 is that it'll make just about every format that I can ever think of using. What I don't like is it'sa bit tough to get your head around initially and without the patches and on a slower computer, it'll probably be unreliable.
  20. If you mean the AFF Drags, if anyone wants in , then just say so on our forum. 103 is easy 13s.. mind you, my 13.6 in the xr8 was at 101.2 . Once you get the launch happening the times will drop. Even the Ts are a big bas*ard of a car to get off the line cleanly with a manual/
  21. Ignoring the dribble about how slow XR8s are... I would be turboing the XR8 rather than SC. No doubt you know that Rod's pursuit has run 131.something mph without being leaned on tuning wise and standard stall etc ( with slicks ). The 260 could take more boost because of the lower compression ratio. Mind you, I would keep the T and aim for 9s

  23. AFF would like to invite the XR6Turbo crew to participate in the drag day we are holding. The meeting place will be at Ford HQ at 1.30 with a view to a 2.00pm departure. Racing kicks off at 4.00pm. We have invited the guys from LS1.com.au to come as well so there will be a mix and some stiff competition. The classes are Ford 4, 6 and 8 and corresponding Expensive Daewoo classes. Any car that runs a 12.9999999 or faster will be in exhibition which is a race for outright honours. Being in exhibition doesn't restrict you in any way when it comes to the amount of runs. The bad news for you guys is that a turbo or other forced induction puts you up a class, therefore any XR6T that doesn't run a 12 will be in the F8 category. There is a Ford Vs Expensive Daewoo trophy ,... which the Expensive Daewoo guys got with a landslide last time so we need to return the trophy to the correct place!! The cost is $40 to race and $10 to spectate.

    mine was dynoed at 215 with CAI only ( never dynoed completely stock ) and cranked out 13.6 at heathcote. I think I got a good one :D
  25. I don't know why but I thought the typhoon had the brembos standard .... So what you seem to get for your extra $$ is a bit of wank value. As people are already talking APS kits .. just the same as a standard T. I think a standard T with AP racing brakes, decent suspension and a Phase 2 kit will kick a Typhoons arse all over the place. I think I might stick with the XR8

'
