L/100km Before And After The "chip"

for some odd reason my fuel economy is improving markedly after the the injectors and stronger pump have been installed

I was running about 15.5L/100km when the car was set at 240rwkw

now I'm running about 11.5L/100km with the car set at 289rwkw

and I'm heavy on the right foot

oh well, I must be blessed but what are you guys getting nowadays ??

Is that just down to better mapping and dyno tuning the car?

I would have thought that with the stock car running rich that fuel economy could improve - depending on how you drive it being a constant.

I was getting 17.3 L/100km and now im getting 16.8 L/100km.

Previously 11.6, now floating between 11.4 & 11.5 l/100kms.

So, now not so much of an improvement when just looking at the raw numbers.

But I'm much harder on the car since getting the chip. Using the 'loud' pedal with more enthusiasm! So, considering this, there has definitely been a significant fuel economy improvement!

You've got to wonder about FMC's reasons for mapping these cars to run so rich, particularly nowadays when there is so much emphasis on economy in either evaluating a cars performance or in comparison to it's competitors.

Really, is the reason purely just conservatism/caution on the part of engine designers to allow for engine wear & variability of fuel supplies?

You've got to wonder about FMC's reasons for mapping these cars to run so rich, particularly nowadays when there is so much emphasis on economy in either evaluating a cars performance or in comparison to it's competitors.

For the same reason they do on the LS1. They don't want it making too much power, so they can leave room for future power upgrades. And in the XR6T case, they can't have it making more power than the XR8 off the factory, can they?

reckon an improvement of 1-2L/100km could be put down to better mapping and better use of juice

but a 30% improvement is spookey

My ute isn't chipped but on the freeway at 110km I've seen the instantaneous readout vary between 6.5L and 12.5L depended on the slope of the road, I was suprised just how much the fuel flow drops even just on a slight decline.

BLKXRT are you taking your figures from the trip computer or are you doing your own calculations after each fill?

I had my APS stage 2 fitted 2 months ago and immediately noticed a 25% drop in the indicated fuel economy as registered on the trip computer. Have since done my own calculations for every fill (using same pump and filled to 2nd click each time) and the economy is almost eaxactly 25 % higher than the indicated figures for each tank (previously would get high 9's per 100km, now trip computer indicates mid 7's on a highway cruise).

APS claims the new injectors have a 25% greater flow rate...... seems a bit coincidental that the trip computer is now out by that amount. Have emailed them and waiting on a reply.

By the way APS Phase 2 is AWESOME!!!

I have been thinking of getting a unichip (phase 1 or 2) but am worried about the warranty issues.

What are the warranty issues for things such as the transmission. Can Ford still service the car after the computer is retuned?
