Hi all, I have decided that I will attampt to do the flapper mod myself. As my "T" is my everyday drive car and I live 50kms from work I cannot afford to have the car pulled apart for any great amount of time. So, I am now trying to source the parts and information for the project. Can anyone tell me where I can puchase the larger flapper? Will the turbo require any new gaskets? Is there any specific torque settings required for its reassembly??

Any help tips tricks or advice that you could give me would be greatly appreciated...

Regards Brad

Correct and why would you not to it if you had gone to the hassel of pulling the turbo out there is a good write up in the turbo workshop forum thingy.

I got my parts from AVO Turbo world site sponser top notch service next day to NZ :buttrock: and well priced

This is a good mod to do if you want a nice drivable car my T is my work car and I have 280atw of company driving fuel sucking goodness.

Pretty sure that HI PSI was planning on doing the wastegate mod himself.

He just needs advice on where to get the larger flapper so that he can replace it at the same time.

If you pushed for time and need to car, surely an exhange modded housing would be the way to go?

You need to have the ability to grind the weld of the old flapper, remove the flapper and shaft, port the housing and thny reinstal the flapper shaft and valve, you then need to reweld the flapper to the arm.

If you where to talk to one of the turbo related sponsors im sure they could organise a complete modded housing with all gaskets/bolts/studs/locknuts required to do the job. This will save you alot of time and possibly grief

I know ALOT of people who have had boost related problems due to incorrect porting. My advice would be to watch someone do it first and then give it a go or get it done by someone with experience. Pulling the turbo on and off is a PITA so you need to get it right the first time. Mr Turbo 0755961079 can do a 42mm port if you like a loose hole.

Replace all gaskets, bolts...everything why your in there IMO.

Thank you for al of the replies.... I have a spare housing sitting here. So it will be the one getting modded. that way I can pull the turboff and have it all back together in one day. I will contact AVO and seek out the parts...

Hi Matty. Unfortunately I have not proceeded any further from these posts. This is all due to my seperation form the Ex and fighting through the courts to get access to my girl. It is now finally all over as of 2 weeks ago.

So now I will be pushing ahead, getting the porting done. Then all of the other gear will be installed (Cooler, Inj, Exh, Clutch, Blah Blah) then tuned by Dave... I really don't see that there can be much hand porting done to the housing. Besides boring the housing and rounding of the edges on the exhaust side.

I will keep you posted... :hmmm:
