Hey Guys,

Well my long weekend was set aside for my install which consisted of the following components

RF 3Sixty.1 Processor

RF P2D212 12" DVC Sub

Soundstream VGA320.4 4 Channel Amp

This is addition to what I already have installed which consists of Alpine DVD HU and Alpine 5x7's all round.

My Plan was to utilise the spare wheel well to fibreglass an enclosure for the sub, and to house the amp and processor

Everyone knows what the area I'm talking about looks like - I'm keeping the spare wheel - inverted.

There are a whole lot of steps that I did next, which involved cutting MDF for the base of the enclosure (at the bottom of the wheel), cutting MDF for the amp/processor floor and the upper area was framed to provide an easy seal with the top. In all I used 3 layers of resin and glass. Where I could I screwed and glued the MDF frame first

After 2 layers of glass

Here is the top panel, after this I recessed the lip where the sub mounts - just a few mm to make is slightly more flush.

Dummy Fit time, I covered all the viewable bits with carpet. I made a piece of carpeted MDF to cover the amp/processor too which is easily removable.... When finished all the sides will be glued

Sub goes in, time to take it for a test - not finalised in total yet - hence the power and earth cables (and generally all the other ones) just thrown around.

With the cover removed, you can see 2 cutouts in the lower right, these are for PC case fans which I'll install shortly, they should help to keep everything cool.

When I'm finished I'll put back the original carpet (apart from the centre bits which I have obviously no need for) and make the floor flush.

I'm sure I've forgotten lots of exciting stuff, either way, this is my install thread. If you have any questions, just ask. By no means am I portraying this as perfect, however having done absolutely everything myself I am quite proud.

Now I am going to sit in my car and listen to music.:blush::buttrock:

Nice setup dude, how hard is it gonna be to get to your spare wheel though? Also, you won't be able to use your boot again without damaging the sub right?

Hey Chris,

You've been busy, nice install mate, very different...I know about not having boot space, I've got 2 subs and am using the box that was custom made for my old car (vs commodore) so its not the best fit...

These long weekends are awsome ey, I got my tranny cooler finally in hehe..

Cheers Mike..

Very Nice work :spoton:

Ever thought of flush fitting the sub.

I did think of it (I did it in my last install) - and I still might, I was thinking of making a beauty board to cover the entire width of the boot - therefore having it flush mounted....We'll see...

To remove it (all wiring has plenty of slack so that the entire thing can be raised) takes not long at all, seriously 30 seconds when you know where to pick it up from - during its creation it was in and out 50 times.

The main reason I used this desing was so that I can use the boot often. I seriously dont carry that much - but I wanted to be able to use the 60/40 split rear seats. Either the beauty board idea or a grille of some description will be created just to make sure.

Yeah, I remember your boot - I trying to keep as much room as possible in there - that's why I went that design.

Cooler will have to be on my list soon, poor trans cops a hiding. Did you install it yourself?

Nice setup and not much space wasted. :spoton:

Safety officer will be round to speak to you about the saw left on top of the power leads though.... :spoton:

Thanks Dags, Honestly the jiggy wasn't plugged in :spoton:

Seriously its damn hard doing all that in a garage that is literally 2cm longer than the BA - no room at all. Poor car had to live outside while the garage was full of junk.... Needs a wash, its covered in MDF and Fibreglass dust

HAHA what boot, its still as messy as when you saw it... Yeah me and my mate shared the work load... he made sure I did the hard bits, but he pretty much told me what to do.... Check out the thread I started, I got some pics of it installed, and a summary of how it went...

Mike....
