Posted 23/12/05 12:51 PM Share Posted 23/12/05 12:51 PM My car was damaged badly on Sunday while dropping it off to get fixed after breaking a drive shaft...Can you pick it?The open drivers door was pushed back beyond 90 degrees whilst pushing it away by the towie and myself from the tow truck... the open drivers door hit an upright for the awning it was being placed under... because the vehicle was unhitched from the tow truck and not under the care of the driver at the time it is considered to be my fault... a very expensive lesson I can assure you.Damage is as follows... In total $1900.00 to fix the door only, needs new hinges, new slide, new door, panel beating on the pillar to straighten and work around the quarter panel and respraying front quarter/drivers door/back door... A lesson can be learnt here... don't attempt to steer your car from the outside with the drivers door open...It totally ruined what was already a crap Sunday because of the driveshaft...Thanks must also go out to AdamXR6T for his help on the day. Thanks mate!! Couldn't see 2 g's worth in the first photo but could see the dollars adding up as I looked through the other 3 to see the full extent of the damage. Posted 23/12/05 01:11 PM Author Share Posted 23/12/05 01:11 PM I was considering claiming it on my insurance... but the excess is $1250 ($450 driver/$800 for the car) but I will lose my Rating 1 and see premiums rise because of the claim so decided against it...While it is at the panel beaters I am getting the front bumper resprayed and a new spoilerless boot done as well... so atleast it will look the goods when I get it back... basically whole car is getting resprayed bar the roof and passenger doors... what a kick in the teeth only a few days before christmas... To quote Days of Thunder 'rubbin's racing son'Car goes in on January 3rd... will post pics when I get it back...Jack

The Barina had a cut in the plastic bumber and a scratch next to the number plate. The rear hatch operated perfectly. As it wasn't her fault then get it fixed. This amounted to $1130. It's embarassing when the AAMI assessor asks for me to point out the damage.

Makes it less obvious it been in a dingle. Its a pitty u have to wait till after xmas to get her fixed up would be driving u having to look at it like that. I heard the door was pretty bad!The mechanic who fixed it decided it was a better option to hop in through the window rather than try to open the door. I think I am starting to get over the disappointment of it now as I reckon that is hilarious... One of my mates said to me that one day I will be able to laugh about it, and today might just be that first day Jack
