When first turning it on you get the usual hot air that comes through while the car has been sitting for a while. Anyway, while its working only the right side vents are working as normal, but the left side only blows warmer air. It will not be until 30 to 40 minutes later using the AC that its seems to be better. even if I have the recirc setting, still the same result. It does get cooler quicker.Another way to put it is that when you put your hand up to one side of the vent, you can really feel your hand getting cold/freeze. The other side though, its only 'just cool' You can definately tell its a few degrees warmer.Searching through the forums to see if anyone else has had a problem, someone mentioned the evaperator thingy behind the dash. I also get the misty air that comes through the vents, but this is warmer air being mixed with teh already nice cool air comming through the vents. This only happends on the right vents. When starting the car and you first turn the AC on sometimes I hear this loud clunk like a flap hitting something hard. When this started happening, it seemed this was the start of the AC not functioning correctly. Can anyone provide any suggestions?Ta

As the gas passes through the evaporator, there is only enough latent cooling efect in the system to cool the evaporator partially and as the air off evaporator is split directly after the evaporator, cold air goes to one side of the car while noticeably warmer air goes to the other. Tell your dealer to re-gas your system. (I test these as part of my job!)Mark.

Dealer re-gassed it and problem gone.Dare I ask but is this a common issue? I use my AC sparingly and was surprised at having this done after 18 months. Some cars may have a slow leak or it may have been undercharged at the factory. But warm air oneside and cold air the other side, is the classic undercharge symptom. Cassius Member 214 Member For: 21y 7m 3d Location: Ipswich...along the goat track Posted 11/12/04 12:26 AM Author Share Posted 11/12/04 12:26 AM Thankyou for the replys. im surprised that the regassing is needed only after a year and a bit. My AUII XR6 never needed a regas for the three and a half years that I owned it. Can anyone explain why I hear this hard clunk/flap noise when I turn on the AC. The sound seems to come from the footwell of the passenger side. It varies in the loundness and sounds mechanical. When also checking out the AC, lifting up the bonnet I can hear the hissing sound up the top right of the engine bay if you were standing in front of the car. Is this normal.Ta

Posted 12/12/04 12:42 PM Share Posted 12/12/04 12:42 PM I would have thought that 99.9% of the time its from someone or some robot making a tiny error, undercharging the gas in the AC from factory, and not a leak (the system Ford are using is a very tight system, leaks are nigh on impossible from what I hear). Not saying that a leak is impossible, but close.... So you might be the number represented by 0.1%

Do you think I will be charged for the regas?
