l was amazed to read the write up in todays Drive section of The Age where they comment that the Mkll XR8 they tested had noticeable driveline shunt. it was mentioned twice in the article, its good to see the media finally recognising the problem, they are the only ones with the clout to force action. They also said the shift on the new T56 was vague just like it is in the VZ. Makes you wonder why they bother, new gear box with a vague shift and the shunt uresolved :kissmy: Marketing over substance l guess, maybe they are trying to beat Expensive Daewoo at their own game? Poor form Ford.

Both makers were also slammed for their brakes. They even commented that they had never driven a Ford that had not been fitted with the premium brake package. All in all, nothing glowing for Ford, they preffered the VZ overall.

It seems that the press' love affair with the BA is over. Now if some bad publicity comes out ie the truth, then Ford might seriously address these major issues.

Since 70% of XR6T owners (and presumably XR8) buy autos, why do Drive and Motor insist on test driving manuals all the time??

I have no problem with the standard brakes in my T, I dont drive on the track mind you.

Sounds like the marketing group that orgnaised the XR8 stuffed up and did not option it with Perm brakes and now the media find that the stds are not that good.. They also must have optioned it with the customer special option No 666 of drive line shunt also.. Top form... :kissmy:

cant always win

but remember they are talking about the heavier and slower xr8 not the xr6t

the reviews I have seen on the mk2 xr6t with the 6 speed are great

Is driveline shunt really that bigger deal? I drive an auto, but from my experience it is not a major problem (makes you feel more in control, and freer flowing I reckon). I read earlier someone said they shouldn't have changed the gearbox, thought that was quite amusing (I can't see 6 speeds being replaced by 5 speeds, not like the 5 speeds being replaced by 6 speeds before fords release). And the brakes are more than acceptable IMO, stops as well as any other car on the market at a similar price. Quite frankly, you sound like your trying to fault a very good car. I mean, the BA is a brilliant car and these issues are simply unavoidable. We're talking a 350hp engine in a 1800kg car, the gearbox has to be extremely strong and if that means it doesn't feel like a four cylinder box, so be it, at least it'll go the distance. Any mention of the 0-100/400 times of the BA2? I find this far more interesting
