The manual XR (turbo or NA) has 5 modes of operation (auto 3), from full economy to full performance. The computer automatically switches between all of these modes depending on your driving. I have had instances where I am stuck in peak hour but then I see a break, hit to go pedal and it goes but not as well as I think it should.

3000k service today and I ask the question. Why can't I have the performance mode at all times, what is the downside. Answer - the car is geared to save petrol and that's about it. Can I have full performance mode all the time. No worries and no charge. Hey presto, a little more performance - free.

The other trick - Who would like a digital speedo at no cost? It's called Police mode. It turns your odometer into a digital speedo and works a treat. You just need to ask. The only think I can't work out at the moment having picked the car up today is the trip functions seem to have gone. I only have range available. When I hit the trip function button it holds a static speedo time. More investigation necessary. Now I suppose you will want a photo. I will borrow a camera and post a pic.

I have heard of all these modes but wana know how to activate it my self. How does the dealer do it.

These modes that you talk about are they explianed in the owners manual. Probably in workshop manual

Does the car go a lot harder in police mode or performance mode more than standard. I don't think the KW are increased.

I understand that the dealer need to do both - And don't know how... And owners manual - no mention that I know of..Maybe the workshop manual..

And just to clarify the police mode is only to do with the odometer changing into a digital speedo.

On the note of a kw increase - None that I know of but all of the potential is there all of the time rather than going into a less power fuel saving mode such as peak hour traffic...

Why do you think the digital speedo function would be called police mode?? Cant they read a conventional speedo.

Its probably a little more accurate, just a guess.

From the Ford Forum

"One mod I do like on the XR6T EEC is going into Police mode and overcoming the standard speed limitation. 255KPH (instead of the standard 230KPH) gives the car a chance really perform at the top end."

so police mode gets rid of the 230km limiter does it?? does police mode make the rest of the trip computer not work .. isnt the performance mode activated when you put the shift in sequential shift but not change the gears???

The electronic speed limiter is disabled. The trip computer ends up with a range and trip distance but all other functions no longer appear, but you do get a way more accurate digital speedo (which btw reads about 3-4k less than the analogue).

And on the note of the slush box, not all of us have the auto...but you are correct. Throw it over and you are in the performance mode...

Has anyone tried this police mode. Does the car drive differently through the rev range, or is it just a higher top end with the speed limiter increased or disabled?
