Went to my Ford dealer today to see about getting my diff and trans oil changed, I ask what they reccommended. They said they have a special "chrysler oil" which is 90 BUCKS!!!! a litre!! and they would change it(diff only) for about 210 bucks!

Anyone know heard of this oil b4 and is it as good as the salesman recons!!??

From memory it cost me about $100 18 months ago. Around 2 litres ($40 ea) and some Ford part number monkey spunk additive.

I did it when almost new in an attempt to prevent the standard diff whine. It didn't work, it's been noisy since 40K

Qn for Ben, (WBT56) I used Castrol SAF-XA in my LSD diff in my ED falcon and I found that it became noisy and clunky rather soon. Could this be attributed to the SAF-XA? I thought it would be good diff oil as it was synthetic?

Don't get me wrong. SAF-XA is brilliant high temp oil for open or spool diff use. When you put it in an LSD, it overlubricates the cones, (they work on friction, remember) and causes the symptoms you have suffered. Long term it will completely disable the limited slip. Ben.

Hey Guys

Hustler - XR BA diff capacity is only 1.6 Litres. $210 sounds very rich

Ford Australia recommends SAF-XA with additional 100ml Sturaco Additive.

I work for one of the major lubes suppliers and have never heard of a special "chrysler oil". Will also find out the purpose of the Sturaco additive and post info.

Okay..

Sturaco details - friction modifier designed to eliminate diff chatter (or clunky noises as has been posted)

Using sturaco is a must to ensure LSD works properly as reasoned by Ben.

Using a mineral base oil may eliminate diff chatter but will not cope with diff temperatures leading to excessive wear.

Stick with the SAFXA and make sure you get the Sturaco additive
