It's meant to give you 8kms, but realistically you wont get half. How do I know? I have one.With the 500mw it might say you can get 3kms, total bull, I havent seen anything more than 500m - 1km on a 500MW. And when you through trees and mountains, your bugged.If you can afford it I'd be going for a 5watter the UH052XR handheld, for $330, RRP is $398. or a 5watt incar uh-013 for $380, RRP $498. Mention UHF and his ears stand up...Handheld, make sure it is a 40 channel uhf cb, and enquire about the output, which is measured in watts.0.5 watts is the base(I think) and will only get you a km or 2. Go up from there to 2 watts, good for about 5km.Above that you get to the full 5 watts, which is preferable. Cro, saleen1 and myself all have a built in unit, which gets much better distance again.I'm sure there are other features to shop for, depends on your budget and what your after I guess.Check back here (or do a search for UHF and Cro as he has posted info before).*edit* see what I mean his ears stand up when anyone mentions UHF. I was wondering if you think I'd still get a decent reception if I mounted the antenna in place of the tow ball on the back or the car?I can get the areial cable to the back of the car no troubles, just wanted to make sure I'd at least get some sort of reception from that low on the back of the car? I was able to get up to 5 km range between my car and my mates (a Late model camira with an identical setup). This is at least equivalent to a handheld.Left it like that for a couple of months until I found the glass mount I have now.I dont think you would have any problems at all mounting on the towbar, especially if your talking truck-sized uhf aerials. Centre of the roof is best, but who wants to do that?Should not be a problem as you are in a HaaG and so will be at the back of the pack anyway...
