The get removed when people add an aftermarket plenum. (Positive crankcase ventilation). I busted it a while back also. Can't remember what fraud charged me for it. It is a bitch to get the threaded bit out also. If you use those "reverse pliers" (ie - the ones that push out when you squeeze them, rather than inwards, I forgot their real name) You can stick them in, squeeze them real hard and twist......
