FordXR6Turbo.com Otways Cruise

DATE: Sunday 18 February 2007 (Please note NEW DATE :spoton: )

TIME: 9:00am Departure

DESTINATIONS: Princes Highway, Geelong, Colac, Otway National Park, Apollo Bay (Lunch), Great Ocean Road, Lorne and Angahook Lorne State Park.

DESCRIPTION:This cruise heads west from Melbourne to take in the Otway National Park and the Great Ocean Road.

This cruise route was designed by TUFXRT6. Starting in Melbourne, there will be some smooth eye-catching XRs in-a-line freeway cruising along the Princes Highway towards Geelong then Colac. At Colac, head towards the coast to tackle some real 2nd and 3rd gear twisties, a good 30 mins of it according to TUFXRT6. Then some nice bends through the ferny Otway National Park to reach our lunch stop at moon crescent Apollo Bay. After a hearty lunch, off onto the next highlight of the cruise which is the world famous and beautifully scenic bendy coastal cliff hugging black strip that is the Great Ocean Road (with the sun behind us to maximise the views and driving experience). Reaching Lorne, we’ll take a brief pitstop, before heading in-land for some more twisties through Angahook Lorne State Park. Cross over the Princes Highway to reach the Hamilton Highway so as to arrive in north Geelong, thus avoiding the queues crossing the bridge back into Geelong. From there, it’s easy freeway cruising back into Melbourne.

DURATION: Approximately 8 hours including lunch.

The designated fuel stop is the Shell Coles Express in North Geelong (however, feel free to choose a Mobil, BP, etc. that's nearby if that's your fuel card type and let the cruise controller know so as to make it easier for you to catch up/rendeavous with us - probably just outside of Geelong along the Princes Highway towards Colac.)

BRING:

Optional UHF 40 channel CB Radio to keep across road hazards and general chatter. It truly adds to the experience if you have a CB, even if it's a $25 Dick Smith special. EvilDaifu has 1 CB for loan during the cruise if anyone is interested - just PM EvilDaifu.

Camera for the photo opps and the views.

Also, if you are interested, EvilDaifu will be bringing along 2 original white 24cm site stickers for purchase at $10 each (so you don't have to buy them directly from MissXR - they're the same ones though - which saves you postage and handling costs). Just PM EvilDaifu if you would like to reserve one for yourself.

RULES:

1. Obey all laws whilst on the cruise; this means no speeding, no overtaking over double lines (no matter how safe you think it may be), etc...

2. There is a designated cruise leader who will lead the way and set the correct pace for all cruise members.

3. Use the Buddy system; always make sure you can see the car behind you. This will give people behind you an indication on where to turn to make sure nobody gets lost.

4. CB Radio’s; if you don’t have one, follow the maps and directions given out. It is highly recommended to have CB as it enhances the enjoyment of the cruise being able to hear about road hazards and join in on the social chatter.

5. Please turn up to the meeting points with a sufficient fuel in your tank and enough time before the departure time.

6. During the cruise, please have head-lights on normal beam. It is up to individuals if fog lights are on, but be mindful that in some States, it is illegal to have fog lights on in most situations.

7. The Cruise Controller attending the cruise has the final say on the cruise route.

8. By attending this cruise you agree not to hold FordXR6Turbo.com, it’s Administrators, Moderators, Cruise Controllers, or Owner responsible/liable for any damage and/or grief sustained (simply; you are responsible for your own actions).

I've only got one question.....MARCH? :spoton:

Hi Dagabond,

Mr Turbo and I have planned to do the Wilsons Prom cruise in Feb (it was held in Feb last year). So, the next month March was chosen for the Otways cruise.

It's just that the Wilsons Prom cruise also lets drivers and crew sit on the beach/go for a swim at Norman Bay or walk the fresh water estuary on the Loo Ern Track - and these all require summer-like weather. The Otways cruise, being so long, will be mostly driving and stops only for lunch or short breaks.

Flukey

Im a very big possibility!

I'm 50% in

Hi Flukey, will be good to see you again regular cruiser

Hi SCRIBR and djmikyg, really hope you can make it. :tease:
