Doesn't Adam still hold the record of a 9.9 something with around 450rwkw's in his white XR6T?←Different world...... Different Universe to Adams car.C9 with a stripped interior Vs engineered, 'Complete Package'Sorry to INFLYT, but there simply is, NO comparison to be drawn between these two cars, and you know it.. If I wanted a drag I’d whack an auto in it ….. end of story.I’m still very new to this Ford. 1st I don’t know how to launch, 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd gear changes are still slow (maybe I need some lessons from F6 Ute), but once into 3rd it’s another league. It will take a while to get used to it, although I’m not really happy with the shifter.I took my 25yo son home from work last night well after peak hour. He’s a bit of a gun driver who does regular 1.09s around Wakefield in his STi and a lot of track work. He wanted to see what it could do so on an empty stretch of uphill 2 lane road (15 degrees incline) I gunned it in 4th. The look of terror on his face as we went though 6000 revs was priceless. Being a STi advocate he now has some respect for the Ford. He did note that the car is not as nimble as our STi’s, but that is expected. I don’t think the car would be great on a tight circuit like Wakefield, but around something like Eastern Creek it would be a lot of fun.It is set up to go fast around sweepers and brake exceptionally well.On the other end of the spectrum, where the real tuning work and greatest challenge is required for a big HP car, part throttle drivability and response under 2000 revs is excellent. One of my tests for the car was how easy it would be to drive in and out of a tight multi-storey carpark yesterday, and it passed easily. It also has perfect manners driving along at low speeds in 5th and 6th, such that you’d think it was stock. My son commented on just how strong the Ford seemed when driving along at the speed limit in an 80kph zone, doing it easily, and I’ve always found that big turbos, because of freer flowing exhaust from the larger exhaust housing, make off boost driving feel so much better, and the Nizpro independent cam timing changes appears to be spot on. Quite often you find that people only look at the max HP numbers, and forget about the drivability aspects of tuning. Well done Simon and Dave, as I knew you really wanted to get that aspect of tuning right, and not something to be left to the backyard tuners.Brian

Nizpro Member 89 Member For: 19y 1m 26d Gender: Male Posted 13/11/06 11:30 PM Share Posted 13/11/06 11:30 PM Jason not everyone is interested in drag racing and it is certainly is not the be all and end all in measuring a cars performance , although it certainly has its place. I would be very confident that over a standing 1km dash there would not be another T that would get close. Top speed no one would get close if anyone was game to drive it, acceleration from rolling starts would have the same outcome. So there are many ways to measure performance, not one can be seen to be more important than the other. Lets face it at the time Adams car was running its record times it wasn’t to good at night as it only had one headlight fitted, dose this detract from it 400 meter time, the answer would be NO. It was and is still the fastest T down the quarter There are many events like the Dutton rally that hold such 1 km events, but again this would be only one small test and really not very relevant. I believe that even you would concede that Brains engine if swapped into Adam’s T with the same car set up on the same day would have been faster over the 400. So It simply gets back to the attended use and criteria the car was built for, Brian simply is not interested in drag racing and I am very poor at setting them up for that type of racing. I have a great respect for Adam's achievements. In my world it’s not about 400 metres; I’ve had 25 years of turbo ownership, and I know what I like. From a thread from 3 years ago, that most people have most likely never seen, and well worth revisiting:XR6 (T) Gears, Which one makes you most horny?http://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=6744OK people,I’ll give you a totally different perspective, with 2 different views.I’m the lone voice in the wilderness that chose 4th.1. Not because of it’s speed, but because it’s what makes daily driving enjoyable. In stock form the XR6T is not really that quick. I’m spoilt with 3 rexes that are quicker than the Ford, one substantially quicker.1st gear has too much wheelspin or cutout to get away quick. Unless you have a quick rex you wouldn’t understand.2nd gear is OK, but doesn’t do much for me.3rd gear is a pig to get into, especially when changing down (maybe I have a bad box), otherwise does more for me than 1st & 2nd.I do 70kms a day, some freeway, but most 60, 70 & 80k zones. The rexes simply can’t match the torque that the ford 4th gear has between 1750 & 3000 revs, which is 60kph to 100kph, which is where most driving is done. That is the reality of daily driving. That torque makes driving effortless. For me daily driving is not about speed, that’s for the track. 4th gear shines.2. Once you get into the phase 2 to phase 4 mods that are coming, I guarantee 4th gear will be the gear you’ll love most. Having had a modified Calais Turbo with TO4 turbo the surge of acceleration in 4th gear when overtaking from 100kph is staggering. You hit 160-180 before you know it, and just hope Plonky or Velvet Glove aren’t coming the other way at the wrong time.Brian←I still like 4th gear most, only it's now far quicker than I ever expected.Brian
