I have only had clutch slip once but it was severe and stunk for a while. If I stick with the generic for a while will the clutch hold?

Though I have never launched really hard either. I would be curious as to what you were doing to get slip at that power. To answer your question this topic has been raised and the general consensus was about 250-260rwkw was a time to upgrade.Scotty
Fat-Tony Member 5,364 Member For: 18y 11m 4d Posted 03/08/06 10:51 AM Share Posted 03/08/06 10:51 AM I beg to differ, ive managed to slip my clutch to a stinky mess and well I aint running edit or nothing. Did it giving the wog a drag race on a long private road. These clutches are soft and any sort of abuse or boost brought on ealier would burn them IMO. All depends on your tune and how you drive. First and second hold ok but give it any sort of power in third and above and it wont hold and its spin city.My sugguestion to anyone upgrading power or just like to give the car some stick, get an upgraded clutch, your going to need it. Once you edit then it's time to upgrade, however you can get away with the standard setup but won't have any fun.I had 255rwkw and the standard clutch lasted 2 trackdays. Not because of the launches, only a few of those but because of the constant on-off throttle gearchanges, double clutching in the wet etc etc. By the end of the second track day third was slipping under power and it was all over. I went with an aftermarket kit with a much faster clamp time and have done a few more track days without a problem. I'm not into drags at all, but circuit racing is what I've been doing for many years.Drags are much harder on the clutch when launching so if that's what you'll be doing, you'll certainly need a clutch when you get an edit. A little abuse and well it slips, more power and depending on how its developed it slips, as I stateed in my post. The original question is about feedback on the stock clutch and power level where it will let go. This is MY feedback and my expirience on what power level which I feel my clutch has let go. And how are MOST of my posts nonsensical. that's a pretty bold genralisation to be making. Scotty please try to keep it on topic for the sake of this thread and dont be a post w h o r e

slowvt Member 19 Member For: 20y 5m 19d Posted 06/08/06 06:28 AM Share Posted 06/08/06 06:28 AM I had no clutch slip with the standard tune, however with an 8 psi generic edit the clutch would start to slip at around 2800 rpm in 4th. This was not related to launches or gear changes. Going back to the standard tune the clutch worked as good as new. I have since added a Mal Woods option 1 clutch. This is much better to drive than standard and seems to be copping with a custom tune.
