Skid Pan Day

Hi Guys and Gals,

We're organising a FordXR6Turbo.com Skid Pan Day run by driving course professionals Driver Dynamics (http://www.driverdynamics.com/skidpan.php) and would like to know if you would like to participate.

All members of the FordxR6Turbo.com forum are warmly welcomed!

Date: Sunday 27 August 2006

Afternoon Session 1pm-5pm (6 places) - Arrive by at least 12:45pm (but get there by 12:15pm if you want to partake in the provided lunch!)

No. places: 6 drivers in total for the afternoon session.

Cost: $120 per driver.

Venue: Tullamarine (I will PM you the venue once I have your deposit).

Venue has a classroom, toilets, soft drink vending machine and BBQ facilities.

Driver Requirements: Drivers must be licensed and provide their own vehicle for this course. 90% water and 10% oil is used on the skid pan so its easy on your tyres. Vehicle tyres need to be inflated to 40psi BEFORE arriving at the venue (there are no inflation facilities there). Also, please ensure the interior of your car is cleared of any loose or unrestrained items.

What Happens: Each session is 4 hours and made up of 6 drivers. The first 20 min is a class to learn how to control your car in a skid and then the trainer takes us out on the skid pan for the rest of the session.

Lunch: Provided There is a BBQ there so I'll also be providing snags, onion, bread, tomato sauce and coke/water on me. Need to be there by 12:15pm to make it for lunch (and registration)! Don't be late for lunch because the afternoon session starts 1pm SHARP (and you need to leave time beforehand for registration)!

Driver Dynamic Rules:

1. No spectators - Sorry, but only drivers and their cars allowed in the skid pan compound area. The reason for this is that the venue is a locked gate venue - once you're in, you can't get out until the session is over (as it disrupts the driver training session).

2. No piling in the one car and fanging around.

3. Photographs and video are allowed - but please remember as a courtesy to others to block out number plates if you intend to publish them in the public domain like this forum.

4. Drivers can share a car if they like.

5. Driver Dynamics advised that these rules are the same for all car clubs that do this driver training course and help ensure drivers get a fair go during each session without unnecessary interruptions.

To book your place: - ALL PLACES BOOKED UP - However, if one should become available due to someone dropping out, to book you would need to post up or PM me. Then send me a $40 deposit so that I reserve your spot by direct bank deposit (I can PM you my bank details) or let me know how to collect it from you. Balance of $80 to be paid by you to Driver Dynamics on the day (I'll also forward your deposit to them as well - deposit is necessary to ensure the day runs).

The usual cruise terms and conditions apply as far as FordXR6Turbo.com is concerned I.e. you are responsible for your own actions.

Skid Pan Day Confirmed (Paid Deposit) List

Gary, I'm assuming there will be more than one day if the interest is there?

After all 6 places shouldn't take long to fill up.

Hi Adam,

Driving Dynamics said a minimum of 6 drivers/cars are needed to do a session. They said they can run up to 2 sessions per day, 8:30am-12:30pm and 1pm-5pm so if we use up all the spots on the afternoon session, then they'll start the morning session or (I'm guessing) add an extra few cars to the afternoon session (not so good). I'll ask them when the numbers grow a bit.

If you want, we can have 2 afternoon sessions, but the demand would need to justify it. I guess it's much better if we're all together at the one session from a social point of view.

I think I asked this in the other thread but anyway...

Spectators are they allowed and how many, also can there be more than one driver per car?

Hi Dagabond,

Driver Dynamics said they don't like drawing spectators to the skid pan sessions, probably from a safety perspective and to keep the hoon element away. And that's why they don't want the actual venue, date and times made public domain (but I will be PMing the venue to those that confirm participation). However, I will enquire to see how many spectators can come along assuming they have some relationship to the paying drivers and not just strangers off the street.

Their website is quite specific in that they charge $120 per driver. So, if they have 6 drivers, they can run the session and I'm guessing it does not matter if there is more than 1 driver per car, so long as they are paying drivers.

need to know what date?

Hi stang,

I've proposed a date of Sunday 20 August (1pm-5pm) to see if that would be suitable for you guys. And I need to wait to hear back from Driver Dynamics to see if the skid pan is available that day as well. It may not be available. It's a bit chicken and egg but gotta start somewheres.

But they did give me the impression that we could name our date. However, when I spoke with them, they were on the road to Brisbane so I have to wait until they get back to Melbourne next week to see if the date is okay.
