Righto, so I just bought this XR6T Ute last week and ive been doing some servicing and general maintenance. After reading some horror stories on here of people's Auto's filling up with coolant and cooling systems filling up with auto trans, ive decided to fit an aux trans cooler and bypass the stock item to prevent this issue ever happening.

Once I got the stone tray off it was pretty obvious that I had an issue, there was evidence of coolant in the form of white marks over the inside of the stone tray and wheel arch spats.

So I ripped the bloody radiator out found that it has been leaking for some time around the seam where the tank meets the core.

Went and bought a new radiator from the local Fraud Dealer, $347 trade price. Purchased new 92 deg thermostat (that's wat was in there, that's wat rapeco had listed for BA)

Also bought 5L of NULON coolant, and fitted normal bloody hose clamps to the top radiator hose at either end, and fitted another to the lower hose.

Once that was fitted it was time to fit the AUX trans cooler, I got a PWR one to suit a V8. There was actually another one that the Auto Shop had that was actually for a BA-BF. It was still a PWR item but the box had to suit BA-BF on it. I probably should of used that one as it was a

little bit bigger.

I fitted the trans cooler between the IC and the condensor, I used the supplied fitting kit to attach it to the condensor and radiator. I also bought some Neoprene Foam Tape and fitted it to either side of the trans cooler edges so it dosnt rub on the condensor or the IC.

The new radiator had bungs in the oil cooler holes so I left them in there.

The Auto shop supplied me with some female hose fittings that screwed onto the stock trans cooler lines, I just used some decent thread sealant paste.

Made sure everything was secure with cable ties, filled up the rad and topped up the auto. And its sorted.

Will have to wait and see how it all performs.

Heres some pics:

If you see this, it means BAD!!!

So your gunna need to do this.

This is the cause of the coolant stains....

This is the PWR Trans cooler I got. There is another one bigger from PWR to suit BA-BF.

It fits between the IC and the A/C condensor.

Fitted female fittings to stock Trans cool lines, the new rubber hoses push on and are hose clamped.

Finished install

And all back together no worries .

IMPORTANT NOTE:

When using the fitting kit supplied for the trans cooler, the lock taps on the engine bay side of the radiator will fowl on the frame for the thermo fans.

I just grabbed my dremel and took a bit of plastic out. It fits sweet now!

Im glad its all sorted out now mate. :buttrock:

I had the same coolant marks on my car and took it to Ford straight away.

They found out that the Radiator was leaking and they replaced it under warranty.

I also have the same PWR Trans Cooler as yours but bought the Heavy Duty one as its bigger then the V8 trans cooler.

Yeah I wish I bought that one now..... My main concern was space.... But the bigger one would of fitted in there no dramas at all. Hopefully this one will do the job, otherwise I mite have to start all over again and fit the bigger one.

Fingers crossed, it gets hot up here in Cairns in the summer time...

But at least the Auto will be happier then being full of coolant.

Now just gotta start saving up for another radiator in 3 yrs time.....

Did u drop the trans pan and check for coolant in the trans?

No I havnt, but the coolant level was still fine and it was still green, so it dosnt appear that there is any trans contamination in there?

Im takin the car into the local Fraud dealer on thurs to get my PCM software level checked to make sure its the current version. Ill get them to fully drain the auto/converter, replace filter and fill her up.

The auto trans oil that was still in the radiator trans cooler was still nice and red. So I reckon it should be ok.
